Lawyer to head tribunal looking into former TDSB Director plagiarism allegations

Toronto lawyer F. Paul Morrison has been named as new chair of the University of Toronto disciplinary tribunal looking into allegations that Chris Spence plagiarized parts of his doctoral thesis.

The case was put on hold earlier this month when former chair Paul Schabas stepped down the day before the hearing to avoid a possible conflict of interest with other lawyers involved in the case.

Spence resigned 18 months ago as director of education for the Toronto District School Board after admitting he plagiarized parts of an opinion piece he wrote for the Star. Soon after he faced accusations that he used passages from other writers in his 1996 thesis for his doctor of education degree at the U of T’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
