Revisionist Vatican says Jesus nullified Old Testament divine promises. Says Jews are not "God's Chosen People"

A high-ranking Israeli official on Sunday slammed a statement from Catholic bishops, who called for international organizations to lead the cause of Palestinian statehood.

Propeller Greek-Melchite Archbishop Cyrille Bustros sparked an interreligious firestorm when he suggested that Israel was “using Scripture” to continue its occupation of Palestinian territory.

"The Holy Scriptures cannot be used to justify the return of Jews to Israel and the displacement of the Palestinians,” Bustros said at the close of a two-week conference in Rome, Italy, “to justify the occupation by Israel of Palestinian lands.”

The Archbishop then questioned the biblical idea of a “promised land” set aside by a specific group of people.

"We Christians cannot speak of the promised land as an exclusive right for a privileged Jewish people,” Bustros continued. "This promise was nullified by Christ. There is no longer a chosen people – all men and women of all countries have become the chosen people."

  1. Whoa, whoa, wait a minute.
The "VATICAN" did no such thing!
It was a bunch of angry anti-semitic assholes who just happen to be "bishops" that got together for a clusterfuck in Rome and took the opportunity to rant on Isreal.
Bustros has been doing it for years.
The media, as always, tries to use it to play the two faiths off each other.
The Pope was at the "Synod" which lasted all week but he certainly didn't endorse these assholes!

  2. I borrowed the headline from Russia Today, to which the rest of the story is linked. It appears the Vatican has not (as of yet, at least) issued any statement that suggests they do not agree with the bishops' declaration.

I can't remember which comedican said "religious wars are like arguements over who has the better imaginary friend", but I don't disagree with that and don't get too worked up over who is laying what claim to what standing before God. However as far as dogma goes, this is quite the unusual shift, if indeed it is one.
