The "F" Canadian universities are getting does not stand for "freedom"

Canada’s public universities should be safe spaces for the free expression of all opinions, without censorship. Unfortunately, the 2014 Campus Freedom Index shows they are failing to carry out their mission of seeking truth through the exchange and debate of ideas.

The University of Toronto Students’ Union earned an “F” grade in the 2014 Campus Freedom Index for having denied club certification to the Men’s Issues Awareness Society, based solely on the club’s beliefs. The UofT itself followed the student union’s lead, charging $964 in security fees for this group to host a lecture on campus. While club members had not engaged in any wrongdoing, the U of T forced them to pay for the potential misbehaviour of radical protesters, known to forcibly shut down events and speakers they disagree with...
