Greenpeace co-founder: No scientific evidence of man-made global warming

There is no scientific evidence that human activity is causing the planet to warm, according to Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore, who testified in front of a Senate committee on Tuesday.
Moore argued that the current argument that the burning of fossil fuels is driving global warming over the past century lacks scientific evidence. He added that the Earth is in an unusually cold period and some warming would be a good thing.
“There is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years,” according to Moore’s prepared testimony. “Today, we live in an unusually cold period in the history of life on earth and there is no reason to believe that a warmer climate would be anything but beneficial for humans and the majority of other species.”

The spawning-ground of "Israeli Apartheid Week" has bottomed out to a list of pathetic, unknown cretins

University of Toronto's "Israeli Apartheid Week"
 has bottomed out to this
"Israeli Apartheid Week," the annual hate-fest where lunatics, Islamists, fascists and  communist totalitarians assemble to spew out hatred of Jewish self determination under the pretense of anti-Zionism, seems to have fizzled out at its spawning ground.

It began at the University of Toronto and spread like a malignant virus to other university campuses, attracting the vile, the stupid, and the vicious to participate in a cretinous carnival of polemical poison.

The many, obvious, horrendous human rights abuses routinely committed by Israel's neighbors have rendered the frenzied effort of radicals to demonize the only middle eastern country that has a liberal democracy, respects human rights, and allows freedom of religious practice to all its citizens apparent. The so-called "Israel Apartheid Week" is an antisemitic endeavor to destroy the only middle eastern country that doesn't practice actual apartheid.

The Canadian government has made it very clear that it views "Israeli Apartheid Week" as antisemitism and even the usual low-lifes who would be featured at such a gathering have evidently realized that it would be too discrediting to continue the association.

This year, the University of Toronto hasn't even been able to get the usual vapid fanatics, the Naomi Kleins, the Judy Rebicks, whom at least bring some name-recognition to their orgy of bile.

This year, the list of pathetic losers has bottom out so far that their "star" speaker is one of the leaders, pictured above, of the demented "Queers Against Israeli Apartheid."

Russia-Sponsored Gunmen Seize Government Buildings in Crimea

SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine — Masked men with guns seized government buildings in the capital of Ukraine’s Crimea region on Thursday, barricading themselves inside and raising the Russian flag after mysterious overnight raids that appeared to be the work of militant Russian nationalists who want this volatile Black Sea region ruled from Moscow.

Hamas objects to Palestinian children being taught "infidel" Human Rights

Hamas' real problem with the UNRWA curriculum is that it could spoil the Islamist movement's ongoing efforts to stir the hearts and minds of Palestinian children to wage jihad against the "enemies" of Islam. Hamas wants Palestinian children to be taught how to become suicide bombers and seek the death of Jews and "infidels."

Emotionally unbalanced anti-Israel UCLA student loses her shit when divestment resolution fails

After an all-night session, the UCLA student council defeated an anti-Israel divestment resolution by a vote of 7-5 (more at Legal Insurrection)

This is yet another demonstration of how activism is frequently the manifestation of psychological problems.

Russia Puts Troops on Alert Amid Ukraine Tension

MOSCOW—Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered a test of combat readiness for troops in several parts of the country, including an army based around 200 miles from Ukraine's northern border, but Russia's defense minister insisted it had nothing to do with unrest there.
The move comes amid growing tension between Russia and Ukraine, whose pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych, was ousted by European-leaning protesters over the weekend following violence last week in which more than 80 people were killed.

Harper shows leadership while Prince Bonehead cracks jokes about the Ukraine

To be honest, I don't think Justin Trudeau should be pilloried for his joke about Russia being upset about their Olympic hockey loss to Canada and the possibility of their taking it out on Ukraine. I appreciate a politician showing they have some sense of humor, and really, in the hierarchy of stupid Justin Trudeau comments, it ranks pretty low.

But jokes aside, Prince Bonehead still has shown absolutely nothing in the way of leadership ability. On the other hand, Stephen Harper has shown astute understanding of the situation and support for Ukrainian democracy. The Prime Minister will be sending a delegation headed by Foreign Minister John Baird on Friday to meet with the Ukrainian transitional government.

UPDATE: Mark Steyn - When it comes to telling jokes, Justin Trudeau's no Ronald Reagan:
The Commissar for Collective Farms asks the farmer how the harvest is going.
"Oh, comrade commissar! If we piled up all the potatoes, they would reach the foot of God!"
The commissar rebukes him sternly. "Comrade farmer, this is the Soviet Union. There is no God."
"That's okay," says the farmer. "There are no potatoes."
What's the difference between Reagan's jokes and Trudeau's? Reagan used jokes to illuminate the Soviet condition - the bureaucratic sclerosis, the inefficiency, the agreed lies... By comparison, Trudeau's jest about Russian hockey and the Kiev bloodbath isn't really a joke at all, is it? That's to say, it doesn't illuminate anything about Ukraine.

Litigious Climate Change Cultist Michael "Hockey Stick" Mann Libels Melbourne Herald Sun Columnist Andrew Bolt

Andrew Bolt in The Herald Sun:

Normally I do not sue, but this seems to me a special case.
Mann, the climate alarmist who gave the world his dodgy ”hockey stick”, is now suing sceptic Mark Steyn for mocking him and his lawyers have produced deceptive legal documents in his defence.
Mann has published an outright lie that defames me, and should face the same punishment he wishes to mete out on Steyn for mere mockery.
I do not lie and Murdoch does not pay me to do so. Nor has Mann singled out a single “lie” I’m alleged to have committed.
In fact, Mann is so reckless with the facts that his tweet links to an obvious parody Twitter account run by one of my critics, clearly believing that it’s actually mine.

Related: Mann's puerile response to a recent editorial about climate change theory by Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer is to advocate swigging alcohol every time he encounters an idea in it he finds offensive. It's an interesting approach and indeed suggests prolific drinking may account for Mann's "science" and public behavior.

UPDATE: It has been pointed out to me that the original headline for this post incorrectly identified the Herald Sun as a Sydney newspaper, rather than the Melbourne Herald Sun, which is the actual location of the paper for which Andrew Bolt writes..

Mark Steyn ironically notes it's not worth suing over and while I agree, nonetheless I would like to offer my apologies. I have spent some time down under with Sydneyites and Melbournians and can attest that, at least back then, the former generally considered the latter to be uptight and humorless. (Although both were in agreement that New Zealanders are thoroughly uptight wankers.) So to anyone from Sydney, I do regret any offense that may have been caused by the confusion.

CUPE proxy MPP Jonah Schein introduces Queen's Park Bill as a back door way of defeating Rob Ford

NDP MPP for Davenport,  Johan Schein, has introduced a bill at the Ontario Legislature calling for a ranked ballot in mayoral elections.

Schein was enthusiastically supported by the predatory Canadian Union of Public Employees so he could advance their agenda. Also supporting the Bill is one of Ford's most vociferous Council enemies, the inept councilor, "Fiasco" Joe Mihevc.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was able to negotiate firm deal with CUPE and as revenge, the union's man at Queen's Park is introducing a Bill which is widely seen as a back door effort to defeat Rob Ford.

The ranked ballot bill that Schein introduced would allow voters to choose a first, second and third choice for mayor and so forth, allocating points for each place. So conceivably, if this backwards twist on democracy goes through, the next mayor of Toronto could be someone who does not even have a plurality of first choice votes for mayor.

The Bill could easily pass the Legislature with the support of the corrupt provincial government of Kathleen Wynne. The provincial Liberals have consistently tried to utilize Ford's personal behavior as a distraction from their incompetent, corrupt leadership, while they have ignored the criminal activities of Liberals, such as the mayor of London, Ontario who is currently under indictment for serious offenses.

In keeping with this blog's highbrow tone, an article about how the color of your urine can indicate the state of your health

The most sacred image of the national heritage of Belgium - a kid taking a pee

TORONTO - It's something we all get rid of several times a day - and sometimes in the middle of the night - but it's not exactly a topic of everyday or, let's face it, polite conversation.

Still, urine, pee — call it what you will — can tell a lot about a person's health, especially when it comes to colour.

Urine is comprised of waste products and excess fluid that are filtered from the blood by the kidneys. When healthy, these twin fist-sized organs filter up to about 150 litres of blood each day, producing one to two litres of urine that is passed through the tube-like ureters to the bladder for elimination through the urethra.

How much urine an individual produces depends on many factors, including the amount of liquids and types of foods ingested and how much fluid is lost through perspiration and respiration.

Ever wonder why urine can look amber-coloured in the morning, but range from straw to sunshine yellow at different times throughout the day?

Chinese Philosophy Lifts Off in America

...Many Chinese philosophers acknowledge privately that it's not just better library resources and higher scholarly standards that attract them to work in the United States, but also greater freedom of expression. The Chinese government hardly tracks obscure scholarly debates at home about passages in Mencius or Zhuangzi. In recent years, it has, in fact, supported Confucian approaches and thinking in prominent ways—for instance, through that soft-power push of Chinese culture into American academic institutions by its richly financed Confucius Institutes. But every Chinese scholar asked agreed that if a Chinese philosopher prominently and publicly pushed the line that, say, Confucianism, or any other Chinese philosophy, supports multiparty democracy and liberal values that clash with Communist Party practices, that scholar would run into trouble with the state and party supervisors, who are embedded in all Chinese academic institutions—a judgment perhaps confirmed by the current case of the economist Xia Yeliang at Peking University.
"You cannot use the philosophy to criticize Marxism," says Cheng. "That would create a lot of trouble. Particularly in this moment. because China is in a very sensitive period of transition. President Xi wants to make use of Mao. There's also the international issue about the islands" in dispute with Japan.

Obama set to decimate American defense capabilities

Feb 24 (Reuters) - The Pentagon said on Monday it would shrink the U.S. Army to pre-World War Two levels, eliminate the popular A-10 aircraft and reduce military benefits in order to meet 2015 spending caps, setting up an election-year fight with the Congress over national defense priorities.

Test Finds Painkiller Potential in Spider Venom

Researchers screened more than 100 spider toxins and identified a protein from the venom of the Peruvian green velvet tarantula that blunts activity in pain-transmitting neurons.
The findings, reported in the journal Current Biology, show the new screening method used by the scientists has the potential to search millions of different spider toxins for safe pain-killing drugs and therapies.
The researchers note that they tested the spider toxins on only one of a dozen suspected human pain channels.

Arrest Warrant Issued for Former Ukrainian President

Ukraine has issued an arrest warrant for fugitive ousted President Viktor Yanukovych, the interior minister says.
Arsen Avakov said on Facebook that a criminal case had been opened against Mr Yanukovych and other officials over "mass murder of peaceful citizens".
MPs voted to remove Mr Yanukovych on Saturday after months of deadly protest sparked by his rejection of an EU deal in favour of closer ties with Russia.

How Nicolas Maduro controls Venezuelan media

A favorite source for those who still insist that freedom of speech in Venezuela is as thriving as ever is this BBC report (quoting the Communication Ministry), which states that only 5 percent of media outlets are owned by the state. The rest are in private hands, the argument goes, implying they’re therefore free to criticize the government.
Even if we disregard the well-founded fear of retaliation that causes private TV stations like Venevisión and Televén to sanitize their newscasts and keep critical political content to a minimum, this is unconvincing, because the government has an ace in the hole: it can force all radio and TV outlets to transmit a cadena, a compulsory simultaneous broadcast of government propaganda through all private and public media, of indefinite duration.

John Tory declares candidacy for mayor of Toronto

Despite my predictions that he wouldn't, talk radio host and former Ontario Progressive Conservative party leader John Tory is going to run for mayor of Toronto in the upcoming election.

Tory is an honest, decent guy who doesn't win elections.  Although he may have a shot at this one.

It's an open question whether he has the stamina and willpower to push through an agenda of keeping taxes in check and making sure there is fiscal accountability and responsibility at City Hall. If he has the strength to stand up to the rapacious union civic bosses who plunder the public purse remains to be seen.

Current mayor Rob Ford, though plagued with personal scandals, has been steadfast in his integrity as a public official and furiously determined to advance an agenda of financial responsibility.

An interesting development will be if Ford's media enemies, who are legion in the city, will enthusiastically support Tory, or continue to encourage Trinity-Spadina NDP MP Olivia Chow to enter the mayoral race. Chow would most likely siphon votes from Tory rather than eat into Ford's rock-solid support base. Chow, the widow of the late NDP leader Jack Layton has very little support outside of her downtown base and has a number of reprehensible political associates and allies whose agenda she would advance. But the possibility of the city continuing to be headed by someone who isn't naturally inclined to socialist policy may be a hard pill for them to swallow.

In addition to Tory, City Councillor Karen Stintz and former Councillor David Soknacki have declared their candidacies, which divides the anyone-but-Ford pie into smaller pieces.

One thing is for sure - for the candidates running against Ford this election, a loss will come like a stake through the hearts of their future political careers.

Climate Change Cultists Try To Censor Krauthammer

Charles Krauthammer says it right up front in his Washington Post column: “I’m not a global warming believer. I’m not a global warming denier.”
He does, however, challenge the notion that the science on climate change is settled and says those who insist otherwise are engaged in “a crude attempt to silence critics and delegitimize debate.”
How ironic, then, that some environmental activists launched a petition urging the Post not to publish Krauthammer’s column on Friday.

Saudi religious scholar rules that Muslims are permitted to eat mermaids

Questioner, “Shaikh, some experts and specialists in sea-life and fish mention that there is a fish that has a head like the head of a woman, and she has hair and a face like a woman, so is it permissible to eat it…and that is what they term as the “mermaid”?
Shaikh al-Fawzaan, “There is the “human of the ocean”, there is something from a type of fish upon the appearance of humans, they call it the “ocean human” [otherwise termed as "mermaid"] and it can be eaten, it is from the items that can be caught and eaten from the sea, yes, even if it was upon the appearance of a man or woman”.

Charles Krauthammer: The myth of ‘settled science’

This editorial by Charles Krauthammer has sub-guru of the Global Warming Cult, Michael "Hockey Stick" Mann and his followers all atwitter with fury:

I repeat: I’m not a global warming believer. I’m not a global warming denier. I’ve long believed that it cannot be good for humanity to be spewing tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. I also believe that those scientists who pretend to know exactly what this will cause in 20, 30 or 50 years are white-coated propagandists.
“The debate is settled,” asserted propagandist in chief Barack Obama in his latest State of the Union address. “Climate change is a fact.” Really? There is nothing more anti-scientific than the very idea that science is settled, static, impervious to challenge...

"Hockey Stick" Mann trial casts Mark Steyn in the role of Larry Flynt

The upcoming libel trial launched by Michael "Hockey Stick" Mann against Mark Steyn is taking some fascinating turns.

For those unfamiliar with the case, Mann, who is inventor of the widely discredited "Hockey Stick" graph that supposedly proves man-made global warming, is suing Steyn for writing " Mann could be said to be the Jerry Sandusky of climate science, except that instead of molesting children, he has molested and tortured data in the service of politicized science that could have dire economic consequences for the nation and planet.”
In PJ Media, Kathy Shaidle draws some interesting analogies between the Mann/Steyn case and the famous law suit and subsequent trials initiated by Jerry Falwell suing Larry Flynt for allegedly libeling the so-called Moral Majority leader in a Hustler magazine parody ad.

That case in which the US Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Flynt's favor, and which was depicted in the Milos Forman movie The People vs Larry Flynt, advanced the legal right of the media to parody pubic figures.

It's an interesting analogy, which becomes amusing in that it casts free speech champion Steyn in the role of Larry Flynt, Naturally, that means that I'm going to have to figure out how pull some strings to get an invitation to the Steyn mansion.

In another significant development, Mann has crapped out of a similar law suit against Canadian academic Dr. Tim Ball, and in the aftermath of that, Steyn is launching a $10 million counter-suit against "Hockey Stick" Mann.

Terry Glavin: Our theoretical responsibility to protect

It was the perfectly Canadian and elegantly multilateralist antidote to what was pretty well universally regarded by all properly sophisticated people at the time as the vile toxin of unilateralist American adventurism. It couldn’t have more effectively appealed to the Canadian weakness for parochial self-flattery had it been specifically designed with that low purpose in mind.

Opposing religious bigotry is not bigotry

...Liberal apologists for the Islamic Right are – perversely – happy to turn a blind eye to the fact that ‘community leaders’ promote divisive religious identity politics and a narrative of perpetual victimhood. It is only a small step from religious identity politics into religion as a political ideology.
When this happens, religion becomes a tool of politics rather than a matter of private belief and personal conscience...

Canada's security compromised by love affair between alleged Iranian spy and Canadian offical

University of Toronto professor says some classroom activism fostered by The Toronto District School Board and OISE amounts to child abuse

There are teachers in the Toronto District School Board who are subjecting children in Toronto's public schools to child abuse on a daily basis.

It's a minority of them to be sure, but they are in the system and they operate with the blessing of the School Board and of Ontario's foremost teachers college.

The University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) has posted a number of interviews with active public school teachers promoting teacher activism in the classroom. The interviews will come as a surprise to those who think the purpose of school is to teach children essential knowledge of mathematics, grammar, geography, literature and civics.

Instead of that core foundation,  these activist teachers feel they have a mandate to promote their own politics and biases to the children over whom they have been given authority.

Among OISE's exemplars of activism are Jason Kunin, a teacher at Toronto's Vaughn Road Academy, a public high school, who has used his class to promote his anti-Israel extremism. Another is David Stocker, a teacher at Toronto's Cityview Alternative School who gained considerable notoriety for his intention to raise one of his children to be "genderless," and who asserts his right to condition his students to his own brand of activism.

Manifestations of this teacher activism include the use of science classes to organize student hunger strikes and demonstrations against the Enbridge oil pipeline, and the use of math classes to convince children about the supposed ills of capitalism.

University of Toronto professor of International Relations and Political Science Aurel Braun considers much of the type of indoctrination practiced by activist teachers to be a form of child abuse.

Children in school are a captive audience, Braun notes, and the purpose of education is to provide them with a diversity of views and objective, ascertainable facts so that they have the tools to become thinking, productive citizens capable of reaching their own conclusions.

Instead, Braun, who is currently a visiting professor at Harvard University's Department of Government, suggests the daily reiteration of a particular, political outlook inflicted by activist teachers on their students is similar to the psychological conditioning that is a feature of totalitarian societies.

He compares it with the type of indoctrination for children that was conceived by Vladimir Lenin following the Bolshevik Revolution and the Communist leader's subsequent dictatorship in Russia.

Braun's analogy is particularly apt, since David Stocker asserts that the tools an activist teacher should use are the teachings of Paulo Friere, a Brazilian Maoist who extolled Lenin in his seminal work, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

In Canada, there is an explicit contract between the government and the consumers of education, those being the children who attend classes and the parents who entrust their children to the care of the state. The most basic aspect of that contract is that the school system will not abuse and inflict harm on their children.

Many take the view that continually subjecting children to politicized biases is harmful to them as it both warps their worldview and detracts from the skills and objectivity they will require to be successful later on in life.

"Of course they're biased, because all classrooms are biased" Stocker asserts by way of an excuse in one of his interviews. "This is mandated by the board. It's about Human Rights Work, and we have an ethical and moral obligation to do it and yes we're going to do it."

But frequently, what is "ethical or moral," and in certain instances what would be considered a "human right," is warped beyond all recognition by activist teachers who may use those terms as a means to deprive others of their rights.

Unequivocal human rights could involve activism against the ethnic slaughter of black Africans in Darfur, or against the persecution of Christians in Muslim countries. But that is not what the TDSB's activist teachers see as "moral and ethical." Instead, they compel their students to engage with groups such as OCAP and No One Is Illegal,  that advocate for class warfare and aspire to cripple Canada's economy, or those like the deceptively-named Canadian Peace Alliance, which acts as apologist for totalitarians who kill Gays and persecute ethnic and religious minorities.

It should come as little shock that OISE would be promoting such totalitarian-leaning classroom proselytizing. That institute recently appointed a professor named Abigail Bakan to head its "Social Justice" Education department. Bakan, a conspiracy theorist,  is one of the founders of the International Socialist organization and has been a speaker at antisemitic al Quds Day celebrations. The Al Quds Day activities are the brainchild of the sadistic leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution, the late Ayatollah Khomeini. Last year, a Queen's Park al Quds rally featuring Canadian Peace Alliance boss Sid Lacombe, whom Jason Kunin called to lecture to his class, was notable for inciting participants to commit a genocide of Jews in Israel.

This is the face of  classroom "Social Justice" activism that your children are forced to endure, day after day. Most teachers are too decent and too smart to subject their students to such abuse. Thankfully, plenty of those students unfortunate enough to have activist instructors realize their teachers are not particularly intelligent propagandists. However, there are many students who will readily absorb the conditioning that activist educators inflict upon them. And for the majority of students who just want to acquire credits so they can graduate and go on to what comes next, they may not emerge from public schools unscathed. Like plants growing next to a poisoned water supply, eventually, some of the toxins in which classroom activist teachers immerse their students may seep into them through the osmosis of constant exposure.

It is critical that parents become aware of what is happening to their children in public schools. Because this form of child abuse will continue to harm new generations of students until the public raises an outcry that forces a response from Ontario's Ministry of Education.

"Mr. Charisma" now has slight lead in Ontario polls

Imagine how far ahead a more dynamic leader would be in a race against the current Liberals, who are running the most incompetent, corrupt government in Ontario's history.

If the Ontario Progressive Conservatives do not win a majority, a Liberal/NDP coalition is a strong possibility, since their policies are virtually indistinguishable and the Liberals will do anything to retain power. The current polls will likely postpone Kathleen Wynne from calling an election until either her numbers increase or the 5 year period since the last election elapses.

Poll says Canadians think justice system is too lenient, so Liberals, NDP and the CBC say Canadians must be reeducated

In a move that is entirely typical of the delusional arrogance of Canada's leftist political establishment, their response to a poll indicating that a majority of Canadians have lost confidence in the justice system is not to fix the system but to want to reeducate the pubic to be satisfied with it.

An internal study conducted by the Justice Department and obtained by the Canadian Press  "concludes the public believes victims are too often ignored in the justice system, and that prisons do a poor job of rehabilitating offenders."

The Conservative government has committed to introducing legislation to impose tougher mandatory sentences for crimes such as sex offenses against children and for the system to place more importance on the right of victims. But Opposition critics in the NDP and Liberal parties, as well as some federal bureaucrats argue that declining rates of crime in some areas mean that Canadians need to be "educated" about the virtues of the existing system.

These opposition critics probably do not live in crime-ridden areas of Toronto, however one or two may represent areas of Vancouver where during elections, junkies are reportedly given sandwiches   and are bussed to polling stations with instructions to cast a vote for a particular candidate.

Remarkably, in its usual effort to spin the news to its own biases, the CBC reported this story as "Canadians think fix for courts lies in education, report says" implying it it is not a small number of politicians and bureaucrats and CBC wonks who think that, but the majority of Canadians who in fact hold the opposite view.

This CBC headline implies the exact opposite of the study's conclusion

Alberta's "Human Rights" Commissars are putting lives at risk for political correctness

Nobel Peace Prize nominations show how ‘hopelessly politicized’ and ‘screwy’ the controversial award has been

Though they are meant to stay secret for 50 years, nominations for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize have leaked.

It happens every year, granting a sheen of virtue even to those whose nominations fail — an odd list that includes Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Gandhi, Bono and Canada’s own child rights campaigner, Craig Kielburger.

This year, with nominations closed as of this month, fugitive wikileaker Edward Snowden and James Anaya, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples who has been especially critical of Canada, are up for the honour.

Both seem like long shots (as does, say, Uruguayan President José “Pepe” Mujica, nominated this year for legalizing pot), but given past winners — from Henry Kissinger and Al Gore to the entire European Union — anything is possible. This is a problem, critics say, not only because it strays from the intentions of the founder, but because the idea of “peace” it reflects is so broad it is almost meaningless...
