Toronto District School Board endorses anti-Gay, misogynistic Islamic resource

Blazing Cat Fur had the details on the latest idiocy from the Toronto District School Board.

In fairness to the TDSB, they are not likely to be endorsing the homophobia and misogyny of the Islamic website SoundVision to which they repeatedly linked.  However, they should have known better than to use a video from the former Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, who advocated the murder of author Salman Rushdie for having written the book The Satanic Verses.

This is just another of the many, ongoing examples of gross incompetence and ineptitude at the same school board that brought you the Mosqueteria and Veggie Sex for kids

Ontario's Labour Minister Yasir Naqvi wrote a letter of congratulation for the publication of an Islamic guide that promotes wife beating, but says he didn't read the book.

Abu Dhabi's high court rules it's ok to beat your wife as long as you don't leave marks

I don't get why the middle east is so worked up about waterboarding. Evidently it's a perfectly acceptable means of settling domestic disputes in Abu Dhabi.

ABU DHABI // A man has the right to discipline his wife and children provided he does not leave physical marks, the Federal Supreme Court has ruled.

The judgment was made in the case of a man who slapped and kicked his daughter and slapped his wife. 

The wife suffered injuries to her lower lip and teeth, and the daughter had bruises on her right hand and right knee. The court ruled that the bruises were evidence that the father had abused his Sharia right.

According to Islamic law, a man has the "right to discipline" his wife and children, which can include beating them after he has exhausted two other options: admonition and then abstaining from sleeping with his wife.

A locally (in Toronto) well-known blogger/media personality decided to use the picture below to illustrate a post about domestic violence, specifically, the case of Belleville police chief Cory McMullin's assault by her husband, to which he pleaded guilty.

There seem to be cultural depictions in the illustration that, I think I'm safe in assuming, would not bring Belleville to most people's minds.
