University of Toronto department partners with terror-supporting, anti-Semitic group
The Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism and Canada's Prime Minister have explicitly stated that those applying double standards to Israel, denying the Jewish people the right to self-determination by attempting to delegitimize and boycott the Jewish State as a "racist endeavor," and slandering it as an "apartheid state" are engaging in antisemitism.
The so-called "Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East" (CJPME) is one such group. Though they vehemently deny their efforts to demonize the Jewish state is antisemitic, with all the atrocities going on in the world, and when Israel is surrounded by the worst human rights abusers on the planet, the one country they expend efforts to boycott is Israel. Yet the fact remains that while its survival is threatened by neighboring dictatorships against whom it is technically in a state of war, Israel remains the only liberal democracy in the Middle East. It is the only country in the region where Christian and other religious minorities are not persecuted, and are allowed complete religious freedom, and is the only middle eastern country that guarantees rights for its LGBT population.
The CJMPE would probably deny they support terrorism. Yet I attended an event they co-sponsored in 2012 featuring a talk by a vicious anti-Israel activist by the name of Eva Bartlett. At her CJMPE-sponsored talk, she made the point of saying that "violent resistance is legitimate." The "violent resistance" to which Ms Bartlett referred included the terrorist group Hamas' indiscriminate missile attacks on of Israeli civilian centers, which, by definition, is terrorism.
Though the hypocritical activities of groups like CJMPE make them self-discrediting and unworthy of serious consideration, what is disgraceful is that a publicly funded institution like the University of Toronto would try to lend legitimacy to such an organization by partnering with it.
Disgraceful, but no surprise.
The anti-Semitic jamboree know as "Israeli Apartheid Week" was a creation of the University of Toronto.
Fortunately, its moment has mostly passed and will go largely ignored, with good reason. With ISIS lobbing off heads of unbelievers and raping and murdering Christians, the campaign to vilify Israel for trying to protect its public from terrorism while struggling to negotiate with an intractable, dishonest Palestinian leadership has been relegated to a small, core group of pompous halfwits and moral insects.
Unfortunately, some of those disreputable individuals hold influence at the University of Toronto, and its Department of Near and Middle East Civilizations is partnering with CJMPE to present a talk to coincide with the "Israeli Apartheid" hatefest.
A sample of what goes on at U of Toronto's Department of Near and Middle East Civilizations can be gleaned from a symposium conducted by their Graduate Association at the plush, but superannuated Faculty Club last month. One of the symposium's sessions, on "Community, Identity & Diaspora," was chaired by an internationally notorious, bloodthirsty anti-Israel fanatic named Noa Shaindlinger.
That notoriety was achieved through a number of her social media postings when the supposed "peace activist" proclaimed her pleasure about the deaths of Israelis, and her glee about a Molotov cocktail being hurled at an Israeli soldier.
The English commentator Pat Condell recently compared such supposed "peace activists" to Nazi collaborators. It's hard not to agree with him, and seeing the University of Toronto turn into an enabler of such moral bankruptcy is a sad indictment of what often passes for 'higher learning' at that institution.

Toronto District School Board loses Superior Court appeal on Central Tech field
As those following my TDSB Trustee campaign know, I am opposed to the commercial development of the Central Tech field and the manner in which the Toronto District School Board obfuscated about and then tried to ram through the process. So this court decision comes as good news:
The fate of a recreational facility at a Toronto high school is in jeopardy after the school board lost its court appeal against the city. The Toronto District School Board was looking to overturn a decision by Superior Court Justice David Corbett, who ruled in June that the board’s plan to enter into a private partnership and build an artificial turf field and seasonal dome at Central Technical School was not exempt from the city’s zoning regulations. The divisional court ruled on Tuesday that the city’s move was reasonable and that the $6-million sports facility, operated by Razor Management Inc. (RMI), would not qualify for the “teaching or instructional purposes” bylaw exemption.“The [chief building official’s] finding that the bulk of the RMI use would not include an instructional component was a reasonable finding of fact, based on the information provided to the City,” wrote the panel of Ontario Divisional Court judges.
The Toronto Taxpayers Coalition's election guide is out!
I'm running for Public School trustee in Toronto's Trinity-Spadina ward.
You can read about some of my policy proposals HERE
"Richard Klagsbrun’s answers were very specific and addressed all issues, and he proposed unique and detailed solutions such as analyzing the value of TDSB conferences and alternative schools, forensic audits of expenses, and contracting out some services while still giving careful thought to the issue of students with special needs."

A Hezbollah-friendly Public School Board candidate in Toronto
I'm running for Public School Board Trustee in Toronto's Trinity-Spadina. My opponent is someone who went out to speak to and support a pro-Hezbollah rally. Now imagine if someone like that was making decisions about how public education was delivered in Toronto:

TORONTO - During the heat of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon in July 2006, Ausma Malik was front and centre at a peace rally denouncing the conflict and Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s support of Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah missile fire.
Pictures from that day show the Muslim woman, wearing a headscarf and attending the University of Toronto at the time, outside the U.S. Consulate, speaking beside Ali Mallah, a well-known pro-Palestinian, pro-Hamas activist and CUPE official...
... (Toronto Sun reporter Sue-Ann Levy) asked Chow at a Toronto Sun editorial board how she could align herself with a woman who reportedly contended publicly that Israel committed “state-sanctioned murder” and whether such a woman espoused “caring” values.
At first Chow, looking like a deer caught in the headlights, said she wasn’t 100% familiar with Malik’s background or her “foreign affairs point of view.”
Asked whether she checks people out before she endorses them, Chow said she does know “who she is”...
...Malik’s opponent for trustee, Richard Klagsbrun, who happens to be Jewish, said he is running to “rid the TDSB of the egregious politicization” that has made its way into the curriculum.
“Ms. Malik, a speaker at a rally that was out supporting an Islamist terror group ... represents much of what’s wrong with public education in Toronto,” he said.

Want details on Toronto trustees' expenses? That will cost $3,300
The disgraceful lack of transparency at the Toronto District School Board intimated by this Toronto Star article is one of the many reasons why I'm running for Public School trustee in Trinity-Spadina.
Want to know exactly what Toronto trustees have charged taxpayers for since the 2010 election? Getting that information will cost you $3,300.

eBay/Participant Media's Jeff Skoll endorses Toronto School Board Candidate Richard Klagsbrun
| Participant Media's Jeff Skoll |
TORONTO, Sept 16,2014 /CNW/ - World-famous Canadian philanthropist, entrepreneur, and Hollywood movie producer Jeff Skoll has done something unprecedented for him this week. The eBay innovator who was both its first employee and first president, took a public position in Toronto politics by endorsing Richard Klagsbrun for Public School Trustee in Toronto's Trinity-Spadina district.
Skoll's eponymous Skoll Foundation is one of the premier catalysts for Social Entrepreneurship in the world and his Skoll Scholarship program has awarded millions in education grants. Among Skoll Foundation awardees is Sal Khan'sKhan Academy, whose highly effective methods Klagsbrun has proposed utilizing to a greater extent in the Toronto District School Board.
Said Skoll, "I have personally worked with educators in both Canada and the US at a systems level. Amongst other partners in education, the Skoll Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Free the Children in Canada and the US and as such we have had great visibility into both country's systems. While the Canadian system in many respects is superior to that of the US, both systems suffer from bureaucratic logjams. It takes someone like Richard Klagsbrun, who is passionate, knowledgeable and fearless, to break these logjams and help our kids get the best possible education to prepare them for the modern world."
Klagsbrun was one of the first employees at Skoll's Participant Productions, where as a Strategic Planning and Creative Executive, he helped formulate the organization's unique model of tying social action campaigns to the company's films in partnership with legislators and social action groups. That model is considered one of the main reasons of the tremendous success of Participant's Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
A writer and consultant who has been a fierce critic of the decline in standards in public education, particularly inToronto, Klagsbrun has been featured in national publications and as a television commentator. He also served for a year as co-Chair of the School Council at Central Technical School, the largest school in Trinity-Spadina.
"We need a complete overhaul of the way education is delivered in Toronto's public schools, where our kids are becoming victims of a politicized curriculum," said Klagsbrun. "The current political establishment will only make things worse. The NDP is trying to impose a candidate on Trinity-Spadina who represents deplorable aspects of identity politics. She was a speaker at a rally that supported the terror group Hezbollah and at a pro-Marxist conference, and according to the University of Toronto newspaper, The Varsity, as a U of T union official, colluded in a corrupt investigation of a crooked student election. The other ward candidates have offered nothing but meaningless platitudes. This election is an opportunity for Trinity-Spadina voters to choose between real change or the dismal status quo."
Among Klagsbrun's other endorsers are author and CFRB radio host Tarek Fatah, Harvard University professor Aurel Braun, broadcaster Michael Coren, and Toronto FC Goalkeeper Chris Konopka.
Added Skoll, "I have known Richard Klagsbrun for over 20 years and he is thoroughly knowledgeable and passionate about public education and the need to improve it. Ward 10 couldn't hope to have a better representative at the TDSB. As education standards are declining and the curriculum is becoming increasingly politicized, Toronto needs Richard, who will fight for the next generation's right to an education that provides them with the tools they will need to succeed."

Gender Politics And Radical Activism In The Math Curriculum
The use of mathematics curriculum to push ideology has been going on for some time in the Toronto District School Board. Wrote Richard Klagsbrun (Ward 10 TDSB candidate) two years ago:
The so-called social justice aspects of the curriculum frequently reflect a subjective and highly politicized interpretation of the word “justice”. As such, the way it is approached needs a very serious review, and in my opinion a complete overhaul.

Teachers' Union says Campbell Brown Is Too 'Pretty' to File a Lawsuit That Would Make It Easier to Fire Lousy Teachers
The nonprofit advocacy group, Partnership for Education Justice (PEJ), just filed a lawsuit with the goal of making it easier to remove lousy teachers in New York. The filing comes on the heels of last month's landmark Vergara decision, in which the California Superior Courtstruck down five statutues that protect teachers in the Golden State from being fired...
...Former CNN anchor Campbell Brown, who is the founder of PEJ, announced the case yesterday on the steps of New York's City Hall...
MORE...teachers unions and their defenders are reacting to the lawsuit (which has been rumored for a while) and to Brown's new career as an education reformer. It's ugly. Here are some highlights:
- “[Campbell Brown] is a good media figure because of her looks, but she doesn’t seem to know or understand anything about teaching and why tenure matters," education activist and historian Diane Ravitch told The Washington Post. "I know it sounds sexist to say that she is pretty, but that makes her telegenic...

Showing contempt for Jewish donors, the University of Toronto promotes professor at center of antisemitic controversy
A controversial professor at the University of Toronto's Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, who was at the centre of an anti-Semitic classroom incident, was recently promoted by the University to the shock of many in the Jewish community.
Following the wide exposure of an anti-Semitic classroom "Jew count" facilitated by Rupaleem Bhuyan, then an untenured Assistant Professor with the University of Toronto's Faculty of Social Work, the university was deluged by complaints and concerns from its Jewish donors.
A disturbing 2009 incident involving Bhuyan was originally chronicled in the Journal for the Study of Antisemitism by her then-colleague Professor Ernie Lightman, and has since been described by other faculty at the Factor-Inwentash School. According to these reports, which have not been denied by the University, Bhuyan supported the racism of students who wanted to avoid a visit, as part of their course, to the Baycrest Centre, a highly regarded Jewish geriatric care and research facility. Adrienne Chambon, the Director of PhD Programs at the U of T Faculty of Social Work at the time, recounted that Bhuyan told her, "‘racialized’ students come from underprivileged backgrounds and were justified in not wanting to be around old Jews because they are rich and would make them uneasy. "
Bhuyan also facilitated a classroom "Jew count" of faculty after making what Lightman described as an "inflammatory and inaccurate" assertion that half the department's faculty were Jews.
Upon learning about the shocking classroom behavior by one of its professors and the university's inadequate response, outraged Jewish donors who have provided millions to various university departments contacted the office of David Naylor, who was then the University of Toronto's president. Senior university administrators assured the donors that their complaints were being taken seriously and would be addressed.
However, in what was indicative of the real attitude of the university, Bhuyan was retained in her position. In contrast, rather than receiving support from the administration and their department, both Lightman and Chambon were ostracized by fellow faculty for exposing the incident and have since retired.
Demonstrating further contempt for its Jewish donors, the university recently promoted Bhuyan, who told Professor Chambon that racist attitudes towards Jews were "justified," to Associate Professor with tenure.
A fixation on race may be part of Bhuyan's modus operandi, who lists among her interests, "critical race theory." Bhuyan is the only member of the entire Faculty of Social Work's diverse staff to make a point of stating her ethnicity in her faculty biography, writing she "is a second-generation immigrant of Assamese/Indian heritage," seemingly as if it should be considered a qualification.
Among critical race theory's postulations is that people of color can only be the victims of racism, but never the perpetrators, no matter how blatant the racism they express.
Disappointingly, by promoting Rupaleem Bhuyan, the University of Toronto has effectively confirmed that such asinine, illogical bigotry is something it finds completely acceptable.

Study finds one third of Canadian university graduates are functionally illiterate
About a third of Canadian university graduates are functionally illiterate according to recent data (click HERE for more).
My guess is that figure goes up to 80% if you're talking about graduates from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

Community College Crazies: Professor suspended for posting picture of daughter in Game of Thrones shirt
Confirming yet again that the halls of academia are no place for interpreting things, a New Jersey professor was suspended over a Game Of Thrones T-shirt whose tagline—the Daenerys Targaryen quote, “I Will Take What Is Mine With Fire & Blood”—was interpreted by his colleague as a threat. The incident came about after Francis Schmidt, who teaches art and animation at Bergen Community College, posted a photo of his daughter doing a yoga pose in the shirt to his Google+ account, where it was seen by the people who actually use Google+, such as easily riled deans. Said dean reportedly called for an emergency meeting, concerned that this small, unsettlingly agile girl in a T-shirt was Schmidt’s way of announcing his intention to claim all the spoils a New Jersey community college has to offer, by force if necessary...

Canadian Somali Congress head describes the Toronto District School Board as racist and insulting
This discussion/debate between Ahmed Hussen, the National President of the Canadian Somali Congress, the CBC's heavily biased Anna Maria Tremonti, and not-particularly-bright Toronto District School Board Trustee and identity-politics-in-the-classroom proponent Maria Rodrigues reveals much about how the TDSB is utterly failing its students.
As Mr. Hussen notes, the TDSB's actions are not only insulting to the Somali-Canadian community, they're racist:

Cognitively-challenged TDSB Trustee Howard Kaplan makes an incoherent attempt to defend exposing children to depravity
I'm giving some serious thought to running as for the Toronto District School Board in the upcoming election. I don't really want the job, but the system is so badly broken and is filled with incompetent fools like Howard Kaplan that something needs to be done.

The Toronto District School Board is using English classes to indoctrinate children to a "genderless society"
Sitting on a little over an acre of prime real estate, just on the other side of the south end of Toronto's trendy, hyper-liberal Annex neighborhood, is Central Technical School.
Amidst leafy streets lined with Victorian row houses in an area populated largely by university professors, downtown professionals and urban hipsters, Central Tech is a huge Edwardian structure that, with its adjacent playing field, takes up an entire large city block. The century-old stone building physically resembles any number of large high schools throughout North America erected around the same time. But the school is unique in Toronto in that it draws students from all over the city who come for its specialized technological, trades, and arts courses, which they provide in addition to the regular provincial curriculum.
My son is a student there and through my involvement as a co-Chair of the School Council, I have come to learn that Central Tech has the advantage of an exceptionally professional administrative team and some outstanding teachers.
But some of them have taken the curriculum that was the brainchild of former Education Minister and current Premier Kathleen Wynne and her Deputy Minister of Education, accused child pornographer Ben Levin, more to heart than is comfortable for many patents.
In the newly commenced semester, one of my son's courses is English. On the first day, the class' permanent teacher was not yet assigned and a temp took charge.
The day's assignment was to read a Toronto Star article about the "genderless child" whose sex was being kept a secret by its parents, one of whom is a Toronto District School Board alternative school teacher. They were also assigned a short story called The Story of X, by Lois Gould. First published in MS. Magazine in 1972, it is a whimsical, but rather tritely-written short story that questions gender roles and apparently served as the inspiration for the Toronto couple to turn their child into a human Guinea Pig for a social experiment.
Now thanks to Kathleen Wynne, her rubber-stamp Education Minister Liz Sandals, and the social engineers running the TDSB, every child in the public school system is part of their deplorable experiment in restructuring human behavior.
Discussing the role of gender in society is not something I would find objectionable. But it belongs in a Social Studies class. The aim of the radicals running the school system in Ontario is to alter the next generation with a type of politicized education masquerading as "social justice" that is insinuated into every course, despite its irrelevance to the actual subject matter.
Making the situation more egregious is that there actually are opportunities to discuss gender in established literature. If a teacher feels the need to discuss gender issues in English class, why not teach Twelfth Night, in which the female protagonist Viola assumes the identity of a male? A teacher who shared that play with a class would provide to students the added benefit of familiarizing them with one of the most important works in the body of English Literature. But perhaps expecting Shakespeare to be taught by the Wynne/Sandals/Levin educational regime is unrealistic. After all, that would require students to spend a lot of time immersed in the Eurocentric, patriarchal values upon which western civilization was built. And that runs contrary to the new belief system in which Ontario wants to condition all of its children.
If a lesson requires a short story, there are innumerable volumes of outstanding works which the current crop of students find excluded from their curriculum.
Instead, we have a generation of children who are entering universities unable to punctuate sentences properly. The only O Henry of which the vast majority of these kids have ever heard is the homonymic candy bar. Yet rather than de Maupassant or H.H. Munro, they are subjected to polemical, on-the-nose, banal literary detritus. Because a primary goal of the TDSB is the social objective of explicit instruction in the proper way of thinking in our-soon-to-be genderless civilization.
One of the architects of contemporary Gender Studies is a dour academic named Judith Butler. Though acclaimed in some circles, Butler is widely derided as a tedious pedant whose main talent is her ability to utilize copious amounts of meaningless jargon to obfuscate and equivocate. When Butler is nailed down on a position, it is often on something as puerile as her pronouncement that the misogynistic, fanatically fundamentalist, religious terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah are "social movements that are progressive, that are on the left." That assessment of Butler's was based on her sole, defining criterion of them being "anti-imperialist." Even within that nescient framework, she discounts those terror groups' support for the imperialism that led to the spread of Islam throughout the Middle East and parts of Asia, Africa and Europe and their current aspirations to expand it further.
Gender Studies is essentially a politicized branch of Philosophy. Its adherents in our system, driven by a cult-like devotion in places like the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, lack a basic knowledge of relevant biology and psychiatry. But even so, they feel qualified to proselytize a new order of gender roles and have invented a pseudo-science backed up, not by data, but by their aspirations for a world that reflects their own image. Tellingly, they are heavily invested in outmoded psychoanalytical theories which were almost completely abandoned within psychiatry decades ago.
So while the least capable minds in the academy populate 'grievance studies' subjects like Gender Studies, real science has left them far behind, establishing that there are distinct, discernible differences in the brain structures of men and women.
It wasn't so long ago that a medical term for someone whose sense of gender didn't match their biology was "mentally ill." Evidently the difference between sex and gender is that the former is biological and the latter is a sense of self. But since the biological component drives behavior, it seems that plenty of us, including the "genderless" child's parents, are confused about the whole matter.
In nature, female lions are no more socialized to care for their young than a male Black Widow spider is socialized to allow the female to eat him during mating. Still, despite obvious biological differences between male and females, Toronto's educrats want children to believe that male and female roles among humans are merely a "social construct" which they should abandon.
We shouldn't discriminate against transexuals in any way. They are people who have a condition that causes them great difficulty, and it is often a troubling and courageous effort that leads them to alter the sexual identity with which they were born. But consider that their condition is something that requires surgery to correct, which is covered by publicly-funded heath insurance. So it is, by definition, an illness.
But more to the point, English classes are supposed to teach English and not to encourage children in public schools to question and abandon their concepts of gender.
The troubling part of this sinister remodeling is that, for the most part, it slips by unnoticed. Most parents are oblivious to the particulars of their children's daily curriculum. Once the symptoms become apparent, it is well past the point where serious damage is done, as in the plummeting math scores of kids who were subjected to Ontario's faddish educational designs.
One thing is for certain. If Kathleen Wynne's government is returned to power, they will take it as an endorsement of their mandate and the indoctrination of Ontario's children will only intensify.

Ontario Catholic School using weird, conspiracy theory mumbo-jumbo as a teaching tool
Since deleted, a tweet from St. Anne's Catholic School in Kanata, Ontario from the twitter account evidently run by the school's principal, provided a link to a YouTube video that was being used by the school as a teaching tool. I was notified about this by a concerned parent who has demanded an investigation into what other bizarre, scientifically unsubstantiated teaching material is being used by the Catholic School Board.
The video makes claims about the paranormal attributes of Solfeggio frequencies. It should be noted that in music, solfège, or in Italian, solfeggio, is a traditional method used to teach pitch and sight singing. But the myth of the "lost solfeggio frequencies" described in the video is something very different to that.
The Solfeggio frequencies are supposedly lost frequencies that were alleged to have been used in Gregorian Chants. They are claimed, by the same sort of people who believe in global conspiracies by Illuminati, to have miraculous powers.
While faith in miracles is part of Catholic catechism, as far as I'm aware, being able to conjure them on demand with song is not part of that belief. The video apparently used at the school claims that one of these frequencies can "undo situations and facilitate change" another can "perform repair on your DNA" and "initiate transformation and miracles."
The video also asserts the frequencies "are guaranteed to work."
According to the narration in the video, "the Catholic Church presumably lost these original chants," but really "it was a transparent attempt to hide these incredibly powerful chants, so none of the Masses could energize their souls. It was all about control and concealment, to prevent people from gaining the amazing benefit of these frequencies."
Which means that by promoting this in school, either someone at the Catholic School Board has gone batpoo crazy, or I better start throwing some Gregorian Chants on my CD player.
This is the video to which the school linked:
UPDATE: The school is claiming that the linked video was posted in error and a different video is used to teach students about fibonacci numbers - but for some reason, they haven't identified what that video is.

Why you MUST READ one of the most awful books ever written
It's one of the most poorly-written books ever published, at least if the most commonly used English translation is anything to go by. The late Brazilian Maoist Paulo Freire's The Pedagogy of the Oppressed is filled with trite, jargony, Marxist proselytising, and could be easily dismissed as yet another demented, anti-Capitalist manifesto, but for the fact that it is compulsory reading in teachers colleges throughout North America.
If you were to learn that the textbook which is considered the seminal basis of education philosophy, affecting the teaching of children throughout every year of their public schooling, tries to instill admiration for a vicious mass murderer who invented the political concentration camp, you might find it just a touch odd.
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was personally responsible for the abuse and murder of hundreds of thousands of people following the Bolshevik Revolution. He had his political rivals and opponents imprisoned, tortured and often murdered. His brutality set the stage for the horrific brutality of his successor, Josef Stalin, who was responsible for more deaths than Adolf Hitler. Lenin's political ideology was the basis for that of Mao Zedong, who was the most prolific mass murderer in the history of the world.
While for those of us who aren't sociopaths, such a person might not be considered the best role model to use for teaching youngsters, here's what Freire had to say in the book that your kid's teacher was forced to absorb:
It sounds insane and evil. But Pedagogy of the Oppressed, considered the basis of Critical Pedagogy, is treated like liturgical canon at places like the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, which describes itself as the largest and most influential teachers college in Canada. In fact, OISE was the at the forefront of infusing Friere's theories into educational practice in the 1970's and 80's. That might account for the regular stream of deranged, idiotic, and perverse theses and teaching approaches coming from that institution. That of itself would be troublesome enough, but OISE sees its mission as transforming public education into one of its own image. It teaches the teachers leaving its doors that beyond educators, they should be activists in the classroom.
Their goal is no less than to create a generation of anti-Capitalist revolutionaries by manipulating them in the classroom from the moment they enter school. Or, as Freire himself put it:
Though it will be a tedious experience, you too should force yourself to read Freire's The Pedagogy of the Oppressed, in order to understand the vile ideas behind the dangerous turn that public education is taking.

...the revolutionary process is eminently educational in character. Thus the road to revolution involves openness to the people, not imperviousness to them; it involves communion with the people, not mistrust. And, as Lenin "pointed out, the more a revolution requires theory, the more its leaders must be with the people in order to stand against the power of oppression. So when Freire discuses oppression and "the oppressed," his notion of oppression is capitalism and an education system that produced people like Robert Graves, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Robert Frost, Thomas Sowell, Jonas Salk, and T.E. Lawrence. Freire's means of addressing this "oppression" is to adopt the ideology of a ruthless totalitarian who casually had people executed because their political outlook differed from his.

Lenin's famous statement: "Without a revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary movement" means that a revolution is achieved with neither verbalism nor adtivism, but rather with praxis, that is, with reflection and action directed at the structures to be transformed. The revolutionary effort to transform these structures radically cannot designate its leaders as its thinkers and the oppressed as mere doers. The Toronto District School Board encourages students and teachers to read this book, and other bizarre tracts, to better understand issues of race, gender, sexuality and class.
