Holy Shit! Charlie Manson has an environmental charity in California!

While checking out some of the links on the groovy blog, Blazing Cat Fur, I came across an item about Charlie Manson being newly engaged to a 25 year old woman. The iconic Manson is a fascinating and instructive case of the weirdness that has permeated popular culture in many ways over the last few decades. People make fun of monstrous characters, but even within the scope of the modern zeitgeist, Manson remains unique.

Like many other demented killers who claim a higher purpose, Manson was an ideologue. He was responsible for the vicious, senseless murders of innocent people and yet he is one of the few such killers that we can simultaneously invoke either or both as a joke and an embodiment of evil. Yes, we can make Hitler jokes, but it's often considered to be of such bad taste that you know someone is going to be seriously offended. Che Guevara was a sociopathic murderer, but unlike Manson, admiring the Cuban totalitarian still has a great deal of cachet among, and is taken seriously by, legions of the pathologically stupid.

But Manson, for a long time, has almost universally transcended the realm of the taboo into comedy.

One of the funniest things ever done on TV was The Ben Stiller Show's parody of Lassie, replacing the famous, devoted Collie with the infamous, depraved psychopath.

So after reading the article through Blazing Cat Fur and the links associated with it, I decided to investigate (i.e. goof around on the Internet)  a bit further, since it's grim, cold and wet outside, and I'm fueled up on some delicious Bloody Marys (which, to my credit, I make extremely well).

During that inquiry, imagine my surprise to learn that Charlie Manson has become an environmentalist guru!

Manson`s acolytes, in his name and in tribute to him, have an environmental non-profit set up in California called ATWA (Air-Trees-Water-Animals).

While a bit startled at that thought, still, the physical idea of Manson as an environmentalist had a strangely familiar look.

One of these guys is a narcissistic cult leader
and the other is Charlie Manson
I guess after a while, all these environmental guru/cult leaders start to look alike.

According to the ATWA website, "Charlie noticed that each time he got out of jail, the natural part of the world would be more and more degraded to make room for so-called human progress..."

Like David Suzuki, Manson has been outspoken about the perils of Global Warming. I suppose one way to make sure those awful humans don't infringe on the environment too much is to have your followers slaughter them.

Manson evidently still has a lot of groupies, some of whom maintain his facebook fan page, which has over 11,000 followers. (Update - That Manson facebook fan page has since been removed, but he has a closed group of admirers who number over 1600.)

Weirder still, it turns out contributions to Charlie Manson`s legal trust are tax deductible.

If you donate $25 ($35 outside of the USA), they'll even send you a print of a drawing by Manson called Dragon.

DRAGON by the noted contemporary artist and murdering mental-case, Charlie Manson
Speaking of idiotic use of taxes, it's actually a lot better than most of the stuff that has received Canada Council grants for far more than 100 times that amount. I'd be tempted to get one, except for the problem that even as a joke, knowing I've helped out Charlie Manson would be a bit more than even I can stomach.

Jonathan Kay: Who would have thunk it? Angry Ezra is making media mincemeat of Saint Suzuki

Actually, Jon, a lot of us saw this coming..

..Ezra’s brilliant trick with Suzuki has been to turn the Cult of Suzuki on its head. Cults, after all, are creepy, because their social dynamic typically consists of an all-knowing father figure exercising moral suasion over legions of younger followers. Witness the episode at John Abbott College in Montreal, in which Suzuki’s team suggested that their boss be surrounded on campus by an all-female bodyguard corps.

Cults also usually reek of hypocrisy — because cult leaders, being human, never have the discipline to live by their own precepts.

“There are two David Suzukis,” Ezra writes in his most recent column for the Sun chain. “Most of us know one of the Suzukis. Let’s call him Saint Suzuki. That’s the Suzuki whose TV show on the CBC constantly lectures us about our lifestyle. He says we need to consume less, buy less and use less fossil fuels. But then there’s another Suzuki. Let’s call him Secret Suzuki, because he’s far less well-known...

Why is it that only Sun News is pointing out David Suzuki's important conflicts of interest?

It took Ezra Levant's aggressive journalistic approach to get a Superior Court Judge to remove herself from a mock trail, in which she would be dealing with issues that might have come before her in court.

"The Trial of David Suzuki" is a theatrical exercise in anti-fossil-fuel activism.

But David Suzuki's hypocrisy, proliferation of falsehood and ignorance of fact about matters on which he pontificates has only been challenged in the media by Sun News.

The role of a journalist is not just to report, but to ask tough questions.

When the answer to those questions is to turn tail and run, as David Suzuki did earlier this week, that is more revealing than a full-page spread.

In Australia, where David Suzuki has not been Canonized, he is revealed as a "know-nothing" on Global Warming

...His questioner tells him that the main climate data sets show no real warming for some 15 years.

Suzuki asks for the references, which he should have known if he knew anything of the science.

His questioner then lists them: UAH, RSS, HadCrut and GISS - four of the most basic measurement systems of global temperature.

Suzuki asks what they are.

Anyone interested in global warming should know right there that Suzuki has absolutely no understanding of what he is talking about.

Australian newspaper debunks jet-setting "Global Warming" doomsday apostle, David Suzuki

How credible is he? Here’s just some fact-checking:

David Suzuki, The Age, yesterday:

...Half the coral on the Great Barrier Reef has disappeared in the past 27 years and its size could halve again in the next decade with degradation of the environment and the increasing frequency of cyclones.

Frequency of cyclones? Australian Bureau of Meteorology:
TRENDs in tropical cyclone activity in the Australian region ... show that the total number of cyclones has decreased in recent decades ... Two (recent studies) suggest that there will be no significant change in tropical cyclone numbers ... The third study, based on the CSIRO simulations, shows a significant decrease in tropical cyclone numbers for the Australian region ..

Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority:

CORAL reefs can cope with natural disturbances like floods and cyclones ...

And what exactly is damaging the reef? Brian Handwerk in National Geographic, June 8:

TERRY Hughes, who heads the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies headquartered at James Cook University ... (said) ... “Coastal reefs have been obliterated by run-off of sediment, dredging, and pollution.”

Using your kids for their activism: TDSB is manipulating students into becoming tools for radical organizations

Public education was conceived to provide children with the tools to succeed in society. Reading, numeracy, an understanding of the history and the functions of government where they live are essential components for that success.

What public education is not supposed to be is a system in which activist teachers and administrators use children as tools to further their own politicized agendas.

But the latter is precisely what is happening at The Toronto District School Board.

The TDSB Ecological School Guide is pushing for students in grade schools to participate campaigns to pressure the Prime Minister of Canada to comply with the objectives of the radical Council of Canadians. That organization, headed by Maude Barlow, is a far-left lobby group which funds the neo-Marxist website rabble.ca,  has supported the anti-Israel movement in Canada and wants the absurd Occupy Movement's efforts to make the class warfare an acceptable aspect of political discourse.

The TDSB's guide also lionizes and encourages to emulate activists involved in partisan and highly politicized  forms of activism like that practiced by David Suzuki and Ursula Franklin. Franklin is a fanatical hypocrite whose extremist form of pacifism, had it been implemented by The United States, Canada and Britain at the time of her youth, would have led to her death in the Nazi labor camp where she was consigned during the Second World War.

Suzuki, who has enriched himself through being at the forefront of opposition to Canadian energy policy goals like the development of Alberta's Tar Sands, is made out by the TDSB to be a hero and founder of an activist dynasty.

His daughter, Severn Cullis-Suzuki, who promotes her father's, unproven, scientifically disputed itinerary,  is the subject of a lengthy case study which portrays her to students as a heroine and princess of activism.

This is only part of the TDSB's ongoing indoctrination of students to be used as tools by radical, far left political activists.

Working with the extremist institution, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, The TDSB is introducing    activism in subjects like mathematics at the grade school level.

Toronto's Public School Board has engaged with fanatical, violent anti-capitalism groups like the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, the leader of which has openly called for class warfare. The TDSB has employed Tim McCaskell, the spokesperson for the depraved group of hypocrites, Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, to train students to engage in activism.

The education system in Toronto is badly broken. While teachers are being laid off and millions are wasted on corrupt spending practices, money is always found to indoctrinate students to compliance with the latest radical trend.

The TDSB's Board is oblivious to serious criticism as is the Provincial Ministry of Education, which is responsible for the curriculum throughout Ontario's schools. The only answer to the problem may rest in changing Ontario's government. That option may have to wait a while as Premier Kathleen Wynne has made it clear there is no shape into which she will not contort herself in order to hold on to power for as long as she can.

Vivian Krause: Joyce Murray’s real backers are American environmentalist groups

With her opposition to Northern Gateway, Joyce Murray plays right into the hands of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, a New York foundation that is a vehicle of the famous family’s philanthropy. For a decade, the Rockefellers have been funding an undisclosed, multi-million dollar campaign to stop the Keystone XL, the Northern Gateway and the Mackenzie pipelines.

Jonathan Kay: David Suzuki is poster boy for why Canada needs Sun’s brand of journalism

Few in this country would dare say a negative word about Suzuki, who has repeatedly been voted the most-trusted Canadian in Readers Digest magazine-sponsored polls. But Sun, and Ezra Levant in particular, have been going after Suzuki for years, and Suzuki himself admitted that Sun’s focus on his politicized activities was one of the reasons he felt obliged to step down from the board of the David Suzuki Foundation.
This week, Sun scored another win: Through access-to-information requests, the network discovered emails that reveal the odd demands Suzuki made in regard to a 2012 visit to John Abbott College in Montreal ...

What's this? Arctic melting could be part of normal weather patterns and not man-made Global Warming?

How could this be!? Does this mean David Suzuki, a guy whose expertise is in fruit flies, could possibly be wrong about climate science?!

And now for something completely different, you kind of have to admire this.
