The North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was "very drunk" when he ordered the recent execution of two aides close to his uncle Jang Song-thaek, reports say.

According to the Japanese newspaper YomiuriShimbun, the pair questioned an order from the dictator to hand over control of a business to the military. Sources told the newspaper Kim was "upset" when they said they needed to check with "Director Jang" first.

The leader's uncle, who was removed from power and killed as part of a recent high-profile purge, was head of the ruling Workers' Party administrative department.

...He was so imprudent as to prevent the Taedonggang Tile Factory from erecting a mosaic depicting Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and a monument to field guidance given by them. Moreover, Jang turned down the unanimous request of the service personnel of a unit of the Korean People's Internal Security Forces to have the autograph letter sent by Kim Jong Un to the unit carved on a natural granite and erected with good care in front of the building of its command. He was so reckless as to instruct the unit to erect it in a shaded corner.

               OTTAWA,  July 29 (ARP News Service) --  Boycott campaigns against the Arab world and Iran that will require the cooperation of every lover of Middle East freedom have been launched by a group of outspoken Canadians, it was announced today by its leader Ehab Lotayef, a computer technician at McGill University.

            "It is high time we exposed the crimes against humanity committed by the modern pharoahs of the Muslim Middle East.  Hosni Mubarak and Col. Muammar Gadaffi, who enslaved the long-suffering Egyptian and Libyan peoples with 30-year old dictatorships unprecedented in modern history, have now been ousted, as has Mubarak's successor, but democracy is still not on the horizon.

             Meanwhile, Bahrain, Yemen, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Jordan are being ruled by hereditary fascist thugs and usurpers who are massacring their own people ," Lotayef stated.

            Speaking to hundreds of Muslim and Syrian Canadians on Parliament Hill, the Egyptian- Canadian activist who is a moderate member of the Muslim Brotherhood, blasted the Arab and Iranian regimes for plundering their countries' wealth and depriving their people of their basic human rights. He particularly upbraided Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iran for their entrenched system of apartheid against their Christian Copt, Maronite, Melkite, Palestinian, Berber, Sunni, Shia and Kurd populations.

             Lotayef, who has long sailed the seas for the seething Arab masses oppressed by their corrupt rulers, bewailed the thousands of civilians recently massacred by the Arab and Iranian security forces in the streets of  Cairo, Alexandria, Aleppo, Teheran, Manama,  Damascus, Deraa, Latakia, Homs, Amman, Jeddah, Gaza City, Taiz and Sanaa.

             "It is simply incomprehensible that these bloodthirsty governments are committing genocide against their own people," he exclaimed.

              As a consequence, his new organization -- Canadians for Boycotting Arab and Iranian Goods (CBAIG) --  will be demanding that Canadian importers immediately terminate their contracts for the purchases of petroleum, petrochemicals, plastics, cotton yarn and garments, rugs, fertilisers, majhool dates, taboule, figs, and sheet metal from these countries. In addition, all Canadian firms with investments and joint ventures in these tyrannies, including Atco International, SNC-Lavalin, Suncor, Bombardier, Caisse Desjardins and the Royal Bank of Canada, will be pressured to divest their assets from them.

              Of equal weight is our campaign for the Harper government  to implement sanctions by halting its arms shipments to the Nazi-like governments of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

                 

             "We are confident that the international community - and particularly the Canadian and Quebecois publics - is prepared to support our initiative until the vicious dictatorships of the Arab Middle East and Iran are overthrown and their civilian populations are finally endowed with classical democracy," Lotayef affirmed.

            "The welfare of the beleaguered Arab and Iranian people must be our number one priority," he stated.

  

            The new boycott campaign is supported by the NDP and Vancouver Caucuses, the Winnipeg Peace Alliance, Stop the War, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, York Federation of Students, the Tamil National Council of Canada,  CUPE Ontario Section, the Association of Arab Students and Professors in Canada, KAIROS Canada, the Canadian Postal Workers Union, the League for Iranian Democracy, the Federation des Enseignants du Quebec as well as dozens of Pentecostal and United Church of Canada ministers led by Thom Davies of Wesley Urban Ministries in Hamilton, Ontario.

              CBAIG co-founder Karen Devito, the recently-remarried Vancouver socialite, noted the illegitimate Muslim government leaders of the Middle East are being targeted by her followers with arrest warrants should they step foot on Canadian soil or seek asylum here. Under the international law of universal jurisdiction, war criminals and their genocidal ilk are liable to arrest upon the issuance of a certification by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

             She emphasized that her group's actions were in complete fulfilment of the treasured Canadian tradition of seeking justice for suffering humanity.  Moreover, it has the complete approval of her strategic adviser, the world-renowned author Naomi Klein, a veteran critic of Arab war crimes. 

              "We must lose no time in bringing  Assad and the Iranian mullahs to the gallows just as Bin Laden and Gaddafi were so quickly dispatched. These greasy rats must be torn limb from limb," she stated to tumultuous applause from the demonstrators.

              "And let us not forget to overthrow the corrupt rulers of the Muslim Palestinians in the Hamas and Fatah movements who have immiserated their people by stealing their hard-earned wages to pad their Swiss bank accounts," Devito added.

              Casting aside her life-time enmity towards Israel, Devito pleaded with the Jewish state to invade Syria and Iran and wipe out their respective Palestinian-hating feudal Shi'ite ruling classes.

              A humanitarian gesture of this sort under the UN's Doctrine of the Responsibility to Protect can lead to the toppling of their authoritarian regimes and the implementation of the  Universal Declaration of Human Rights and all the Geneva Conventions,'' she posited. 

             "As for our myriad of friends among the general public, we sincerely hope they will be moved to embrace the boycott of Arab and Iranian goods with the objective of  liberating the oppressed Arab masses, " Lotayef and Devito concluded.

              CBAIG is also pleased to announce that its founder Ehab Lotayef and strong supporter, Prof. Diane Lamoureux of Laval University, will shortly be crossing the Turkish frontier into Syria where they will document for Canadians the Holocaust naqba that is being inflicted upon the Palestinians by their Syrian Arab brethren.

              Some 3,000 Palestinian children have already been slaughtered and gassed with the sarin nerve gas agent near Yarmouk, 65,000 adults and their families have been turned into refugees fleeing to Jordan and Lebanon, while 80 percent of the total 520,000 Palestinian population has been displaced from their homes.

              Horrific barbarism is occurring at 14 concentration camps where Syrian militias are daily ripping out the intestines of hundreds of Palestinians and eating their raw livers, kidneys and hearts as reported by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the recent G-8 Summit.

Venezuelan government upset with Stephen Harper's "insensitive" comments about the death of their monstrous dictator

OTTAWA — Venezuela has sent a formal protest to the Canadian government for Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s “insensitive” remarks on the death of President Hugo Chavez.  

Harper issued a statement that offered “condolences to the people of Venezuela,” but not the family of the flamboyant 58-year-old leftist leader, who died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.

A statement from a senior Venezuelan government official says a “card of protest” was sent to Ottawa after Harper expressed what he called insensitivity at a time when their country is grieving.

Good riddance to dead rubbish

Chávez presided over a political epoch flush with money and lorded over a society riven by fear, deep political divisions, and ultraviolence. Consider the latest crime statistics from Observatorio Venezolano de la Violencia, which reckons that 2012 saw an astonishing 21,692 murders in the country—in a population of 29 million. Last year, I accompanied a Venezuelan journalist on his morning rounds at Caracas’s only morgue to count the previous night’s murders. As the number of dead ballooned, the Chávez regime simply stopped releasing murder statistics to the media.

All of this could have been predicted, and wasn’t particularly surprising from a president who believed that one must take the side of any enemy of the “empire.” That Zimbabwe’s dictator Robert Mugabe was a “freedom fighter,” or that Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko presided over “a model of a social state.” Saddam Hussein was a “brother,” Bashar al-Assad had the “same political vision” as the Bolivarian revolutionaries in Venezuela. He saw in the madness of Col. Gaddafi an often overlooked “brilliance” (“I ask God to protect the life of our brother Muammar Gaddafi”). The brutal terrorist Carlos the Jackal, who praised the 9/11 attacks from his French jail cell, was “a good friend.” He praised and supported FARC, the terrorist organization operating in neighboring Colombia. The list is endless.

Chomsky vs Chavez: Battle of the crackpots

Earlier this year Chávez even suggested Washington make Chomsky the US ambassador to Venezuela.

The president may be about to have second thoughts about that, because his favourite intellectual has now turned his guns on Chávez.

Speaking to the Observer last week, Chomsky has accused the socialist leader of amassing too much power and of making an "assault" on Venezuela's democracy.

Someone's idea of a joke?.. Hugo Chavez awarded prize for "Press Freedom"

Kind of like Fidel Castro winning the Muammar Gaddafi Human Rights Award:

Buenos Aires, Argentina (CNN) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was given a prestigious journalism award in Argentina on Tuesday, despite his frequent and outspoken criticism of media outlets at home and abroad.  

Chavez received the Rodolfo Walsh journalism award from Argentina's Universidad Nacional de La Plata "for his unquestionable and authentic commitment to support the freedom of peoples." 

..Flush with petrodollars, Chavez's government in 2005 helped create Telesur, a state-funded television network that covers news from throughout Latin America and the globe. Telesur has been championed as an alternative voice to privately owned media conglomerates, but also criticized for its one-sided coverage of Chavez. Ironically, at Tuesday's award ceremony, private television networks were prohibited from broadcasting the event with their own cameras and instead had to air the signal provided by Telesur. 

Journalists and politicians in Argentina criticized the choice of Chavez as the award recipient, claiming that he has continually worked to silence his critics and suppress freedom of the press throughout Venezuela. 

"Chavez has closed more than 30 radio stations and six television channels and constantly threatens to take away broadcast licenses of any media that is at all critical of his administration," said Jorge Macri, a congressman from Buenos Aires province. "That's why I consider it a lack of respect for the people who have received this award previously that it is now being awarded to the Venezuelan president."

Dictators of a feather... (The Chavez plan to save Gaddafi)

Muammar Gaddafi's bestest buddy, Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, is doing his best to find a way of saving his fellow dictator's hide.

The very model of a
moronic Major General

Chavez realizes that with Gaddafi, gone, not only will there be one less psychopath at the UN blaming all the world's ills on American imperialism, but with the rapidly declining number of world leaders who dress as if they're performing in a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, it'll make him stand out all the more as a buffoon.

So Chavez has floated a peace plan that is rather transparently designed to buy time for Gaddafi and keep him in power.

The other side in Libya, the Libyan National Council, which represents the rebel groups battling Gaddafi's loyalists and mercenaries, has rejected the Chavez plan, as has The United States, the U.K. and France. The Libyan National Council wants international recognition as the legitimate government and have requested that a No Fly Zone be imposed, so that Gaddafi can't use the strategic advantage that his air force and helicopters give him over the rebels.

When it comes to ground forces versus ground forces, the rebels have an big advantage in that they are much better motivated than Gaddafi's mercenaries and are likely to fight more fiercely.

The mercenaries have homes in foreign countries to which they can return. Gaddafi's opponents, were they to be defeated, would have only two options, flee abroad or be killed.

As a side note, this CNN photo shows the traditional anti-Semitic component which always appears in some part of Arab protests, in the form of trying to paint their enemies as either Jews or agents of Jews. The irony of portraying Gaddafi, who was one of the most ferocious enemies of Israel, as a Jew, speaks to the absurd perceptions that still dominate that part of the world.

Gaddafi flies to Venezuela to unload some costumes

Word has it that Lybian dictator Muammar Gaddafi has fled to Venezuela to escape the uprising in his country and be sheltered by his ideological comrade, Hugo Chavez.  It's more like a barter-exchange. Muammar has plenty of dictator costumes that he won't be needing much longer. Hugo's command-economy fashion-flare and proletariat bargain-hunting skills have combined to pick up a few steals from his fellow fuhrer.

Iran responds to Egypt protests by increasing number of domestic executions

According to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, in January alone 83 people were executed in Iran. A total of 179 executions were reported in all of 2010.

Zohreh Eftekhari hopes her husband, prisoner Saeed Malekpour, will not become yet another victim of what has been described by human rights activists as "Iran's execution binge."   

Malekpour, a 35-year-old dual Iranian-Canadian citizen, was arrested in 2008 after returning to Iran to visit his ailing father. He was sentenced to death in December 2010.   

Malekpour is a web developer who has been accused on a number of charges, including "designing and moderating adult-content websites," "agitation against the regime," and "insulting the sanctities."

A worried Gaddafi bans soccer matches to head off protests

With popular uprisings against autocrats spreading across the Arab world, unpopular Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has extended a ban of public demonstrations to include a ban on soccer matches.

Libya's crazed leader, who named one of his sons Hannibal, lives a lifestyle that exceeds that of the potentates of ancient Carthage on whose ruins his country sits.

Gaddafi has imprisoned journalists and political opponents and has ordered the assassination of ex-patriots who have spoken out against his regime. His repression of all dissent has made him and his family extremely unpopular among the Libyan masses.

His fear of meeting a fate worse than the deposed leader of Tunisia has led him to ban any opportunity for his people to assemble in large groups, even in non-political venues. He seems to appreciate that the opportunity to denounce the Beast of Tripoli may prove irresistible whenever it presents itself for his people.

Showdown on the Korean Peninsula shows the value of not appeasing dictators

Just hours before it took place North Korea threatened to launch an attack on South Korea if the military exercise Yeonpyeong Island went ahead as scheduled yesterday.

The exercise was a response to the unprovoked shelling of Yeonpyeong Island by North Korea in November, in which  four people were killed.

The belligerent dictatorship of Kim Jong-Il has been distinguished by threats and provocations, including the torpedoing of a South Korean ship in April that caused the deaths of 46 South Korean sailors.

The mad little dictator and nuclear proliferate seemed to think that he could bully the West into easing sanctions with threats. He might even have succeeded, since there are many in the West who haven't learned the lessons about the appeasement of dictators from fascist era of the 1930s.

Dictators and fanatics only see appeasement as a sign of weakness and are emboldened by such behavior.

But like most bullies, when confronted, they usually back down and that was precisely what Korea's Little Kim did yesterday when South Korea went ahead with its scheduled maneuvers.

Now, if only Obama would grow a backbone and take the same stand with the maniacs who rule in Iran.
