University of Calgary Sociology textbook peddles excuses for bin Laden and lies about Israel

A trio of Brock University blowhards, Marxist professor Murray Smith, the late Judith Blackwell, a Women's Studies professor who died in 2005 at the age of 61 from cancer, and John Sorenson, who teaches Critical Animal Studies (yes, you read that right) authored a textbook which is currently in use at The University of Calgary's Sociology Department that offers a morally relativistic approach to Osama bin Laden's terror campaign.

Published by The University of Toronto Press, Culture of Prejudice: Arguments in Critical Social Science is not only anti-Western, but is tinged with anti-Semitism and filled with blatant falsehoods:

One section reads:

One thing leads to another. Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda terrorist organization presented three conditions for ending their “holy war” against the United States both before and after the events of September 11, 2001: first, that Israel retreat from the territories that it occupied in 1967 and that an autonomous Palestinian state be recognized; second, that the trade sanctions imposed upon Iraq that have cost the lives of over one and a half million people, most of them children, over the last decade be lifted; and third, that United States military bases established in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War of 1991 be closed. An overwhelming majority of humankind would likely sympathize with these demands, even as they would condemn bin Laden's methods and reject his program of establishing repressive, fundamentalist theocratic states throughout the “Islamic world.” At the same time, most inhabitants of the Third World-and a great many people elsewhere-would consider the terrorist methods of al Qaeda no more “evil” (to use President George W. Bush's favoured term) than the methods employed by the US and other major powers in maintaining a global order that serves the interests of huge transnational corporations while perpetuating the grinding poverty of billions of people.

Bin Laden's "Letter to America" and his demands are a litany of hysteria but did not include that Israel withdraw to its 1967 lines but implies that it should not exist and the land should belong to "the Muslims."

The textbook also promulgates a number of falsehoods about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict designed to instil its readers with a heavy bias against Israel, stating in another section:

  ...More recently, supernatural sanctions have been invoked by Israelis who violently dispossessed the population of Palestine. As Israel came to be defined as a Jewish state, promised to them long ago by a supernatural being, most of the Palestinian population was expelled; approximately 4.5 million still live there as refugees. Millions of Palestinians remain under military occupation, under constant surveillance and regular attack by Israeli forces, including tanks, fighter planes, and helicopter gunships. Their houses and land have been destroyed or expropriated and given to hundreds of thousands of armed settlers.

Thus the textbook characterizes Israeli-Arab citizens as "refugees" a status that even the ridiculous definition in use by the vociferously anti-Israel UN Relief and Work Agency for Palestine would not encapsulate. Beyond that, the grossly inflated number exceeds the total number of Palestinians in The West Bank and Gaza combined, most of whom are not considered refugees.

The use of this textbook discredits any program and university employing it. Whether the University of Calgary's Sociology Department continues to use it will be an indicator of the credibility of the program and its graduates.  Unfortunately, as is evidenced by a disgraceful 2009 incident at the University of Toronto's Social Work Department, instigated by a professor there, it seems academic Social Sciences have too often become politicized arenas for under-qualified polemicists. 

Idiotic, radical student unions using student funds to support the nutcase, so-called ``Canadian Peace Alliance``

The Ryerson Students’ Union is a member of a highly controversial organization called the Canadian Peace Alliance (CPA).  The Canadian Federation of Students (and CFS-Ontario), the York Federation of Students, and the University of Toronto Students’ Union are also listed as CPA members.

The CPA is an organization with extremely radical views.  

A resolution on the agenda for the CPA’s upcoming convention from January 17-19 reads, “…Whereas North Korea has a program of peaceful reunification with the South, Whereas it is the U.S. at the head of NATO who is the real threat to peace on the Korean peninsula, Be it resolved that we will support the Korean people who are doing nothing but defend their sovereignty…”  Other resolutions speak of the Harper government’s “warmongering agenda” and “warmongering policies”, and claim that “the Harper government is consolidating Canada as an aggressor State and a partner-in-crime of the U.S.”  

So apparently, the Canadian Peace Alliance’s idea of peace is to be less like that evil warmonger Stephen Harper and more like that peaceful leader Kim Jong Un (who recently executed his uncle)....

The North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was "very drunk" when he ordered the recent execution of two aides close to his uncle Jang Song-thaek, reports say.

According to the Japanese newspaper YomiuriShimbun, the pair questioned an order from the dictator to hand over control of a business to the military. Sources told the newspaper Kim was "upset" when they said they needed to check with "Director Jang" first.

The leader's uncle, who was removed from power and killed as part of a recent high-profile purge, was head of the ruling Workers' Party administrative department.

Walberg is a hateful 9-11 conspiracy nut who has declared: "Secular Judaism and Christianity either need to self-destruct and rebuild, or disillusioned people from those traditions can embrace Islam. Western leftist Israel haters often repeat the lie that it is "Zionism" they want to eliminate but not Jews.

But it doesn't require much looking to see the truth behind the lie they tell.

The Beit Zatoun event tonight will likely only draw the regular small, pathetic assembly of slime that usually frequent the place.

No decent person would go near Beit Zatoun without good reason. But it's important to know what sort of thing goes on there.

Ontario Elementary School Teachers' Union endorses OISE's pro-Communist, pro-class warfare calendar

The blog Socialist Studies reports that the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario  is pushing the `Social Justice` Calendar produced by the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).

The so-called Social Justice they are pushing includes celebrating the totalitarian mass-murderers Che Guevara and violent, mentally-unbalanced thugs operating within deranged activist groups that promote the concept of class warfare, like the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) and No One is Illegal.

The University of Toronto inflicts a demented form of education on students at OISE

The blog Socialist Studies uncovered the new Calendar at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).

OISE is a neo-Marxist cesspool that does its utmost do indoctrinate its students to absorb its anti-capitalist, moral relativist propaganda. Worse still, it tries to push that indoctrination to children at the elementary school level and even younger.

This is the school that was, until recently, the home of Professor Ben Levin, the former Deputy Education Minister responsible for trying to introduce a highly sexualized curriculum for young children that was held back by former Premier Dalton McGuinty, In what many view as not entirely coincidental to the curriculum he attempted to forward, Levin was arrested recently on charges of producing and distributing child pornography.

But even worse obscenities are part of daily life at OISE. The new OISE calendar promotes Communist totalitarians and deranged, violent activist groups like the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, a group that advocates for class warfare and has instigated riots.

Canadian fake "peace" protesters

Toronto District School Board starts school year off with a bang: One of its schools endorses Holocaust-denying, 9/11 conspiracy website and calls PM Harper a "fascist"

The Toronto District School Board's "Student School` is a bizarre melange of lunatic, pro-Communist insanity that eats up tax dollars.

Does that sound a bit reactionary and hyperbolic?

It would, until one looks at the material the school has posted lauding the Communist serial-killer Che Guevara and decrying capitalism.

But it gets worse.

Throughout the Toronto District School Board, seminars are regularly conducted for students and parents teaching them about the perils of social media.

Ironically, the TDSB is the last source one should look to for instruction in that area.

The school has a facebook page, maintained by "The Student School" itself and just before the school years starts today, it endorsed an article from the anti-Semitic, Holocaust-denying, 9-11 conspiracy website Veterans Today.

The article in question was republished from the English-language propaganda service of the Islamic Republic of Iran, PRESS TV. There is a great deal of cross-over material from PRESS TV and Veterans Today, as both services have anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial as part of their core values, along with an absolute detestation of the West in general and the United States government  in particular.

The article alleges that it was "confirmed" that Canada's 2011 election was "fraudulent." That assertion is based on false reports of election fraud in Canada and the article seemed to be culled entirely from an earlier PRESS TV video report by a hysterical 9-11 conspiracy theorist named Joshua Blakeney.

Iran has had a serious axe to grind against Canada since the latter suspended diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic last year. Iran has used PRESS TV to produce preposterous conspiracy-type reports about Canada ever since, many of which are the work of Blakeney.

Betraying its radical ignorance to an alarming extent is the school's facebook "liking" of a comment by a student who calls Prime Minister Stephen Harper a "fascist."

It is hardly a surprise that a school that promotes deranged conspiracy theories would lack the basic understanding of such concepts as fascism. However, for a tax-funded Toronto public school to be promoting such not just erroneous, but detestable values to impressionable students should seem incredible.

Or at least it would be incredible, unless one has followed the history of incompetence and promotion of fanatical, radical ideas at the TDSB, Canada's most dysfunctional school board.

UPDATE: The heat from this post got their notice and the TDSB personnel  running "The Student School" facebook page removed the Veterans Today link.

However they still have a link up to an anti-Israel YouTube video from Iran's English-language propaganda service, and the page is replete with anti-Israel, pro-Communist postings.


Which means the hypocrites employed by the TDSB's only worry was getting caught, but they weren't quite bright enough to figure out what the fuss was about.

OISE's new "Social Justice" Department Chair a speaker at Khomeinist al Quds Day & Board Member of 9-11 conspiracy-promoting website

Evidently the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE)  has given up the pretense of being anything but a center of radical, anti-Western indoctrination.

Most recently, this appalling cesspool of neo-Marxist fanaticism made the news when one of its senior academics was arrested for producing child pornography. While that disgraceful distinction is revolting enough on its own, making matters worse is the fact that that same OISE academic, Professor Ben Levin, was responsible for attempting to introduce a hyper-sexualized curriculum for small children in public schools. 

That curriculum came with the blessing of OISE, a faculty of the University of Toronto, whose graduates and academics helped design that reprehensible effort to rob children of their innocence. 

If you think OISE, which is the most prominent teachers' education facility in Canada, couldn't get any worse, then think again.

This month, the institute named the new Chair for its "Humanities, Social Sciences and Social Justice Education" Department. That person is Abigail Bakan.

Ms Bakan is a Communist extremist who was a speaker at an al Quds Day event organized by the racist Khomeinist group CASMO. The Canadian Association of Shia Muslim Organizations (CASMO) is comprised of Khmomeinist fanatics who had a public relations fiasco when it became public knowledge that they were posting anti-Semitic videos made by the former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. In the spirit of hatefulness that characterized the event, Bakan made the fatuous and despicably slanderous declaration that Israel "is exactly like the apartheid state of pre-1994 South Africa."

Bakan is also one of the five Editorial Board members of a 9-11 conspiracy promoting website called The Canadian Charger, whose founder and her co-Board member is Mohammed Elmasry, who infamously declared that all Jews in Israel over the age of eighteen are 'legitimate' targets for murder.

You might imagine that someone who makes common cause with anti-Semites and people who advocate the murder of homosexuals might not seem the ideal choice as a leader for "Social Justice Education." 

But then at OISE, "social justice"  isn't about justice at all.

At OISE, Social Justice is a euphemism for hateful detestation of Israel with its implied anti-Semitism of choosing the Jewish people as the one group on earth to whom they would deny national self-determination. Social Justice at OISE means advocacy for communism and totalitarian communist dictatorships, which deprive people of individual liberty. 

The department that Bakan will Chair had its only notable distinction in its former incarnation as OISE's Sociology and Equity Studies in Education Department, which has since folded into the new division.

That distinction came when one of its students and her thesis was denounced in the Ontario Legislature by the Minister of Citizenship and others for anti-Semitism.

Bakan, who was an instructor at a secretive, anti-Israel course at Queen's University, may have learned a lesson. Not about Social Justice, but about the need to spread hate with stealth.

That may fly in the basic principles of academic responsibility, but it would make it entirely consistent with what passes for Social Justice at OISE.

Toronto District School Board paying for pro-Communist, pro-totalitarian, anti-Israel indoctrination at "The Student School"

The Student School is one of the Toronto District School Board's alternative schools.

Apparently its curriculum is designed to offer an alternative to reason and sanity by promoting fanaticism and bigotry in the guise of activism.

The blog Socialist Studies has details on the school's advocacy of the murderous, Communist totalitarian, Che Guevara, its one-sided, fanatical anti-Israel proselytising, its promotion of the fakery of Idle No More, and of the authoritarian, Communist regime of Hugo Chavez. Plus its links to violent anarchists who are fixtures of Toronto's professional protester scene.

Socialist Studies - a new blog worth reading

There are people who has been paying very close attention to the ways that the people running our public schools have betrayed the public trust.

The Toronto District School Board's promotion of Marxism in the curriculum, the radical groups and individuals who should be allowed no where near children who are routinely given official access to classrooms, and a variety of other shocking items have been sourced by readers of this blog and others.

As of today, I am pleased to be able to report that a new blog called Socialist Studies will focus on the shocking ways that schools and the education system are being used as a tool to promote politicized indoctrination.

Anyone interested in the current state of education and public policy should check it out regularly

(Some reports claim he was born on May 26) John emigrated to Canada from England as a sponsored immigrant by his sister. He  worked from 1976 to 1982 at the London Westinghouse Plant (Ontario)when he was laid off.  His labor union which he was quite active in,  hated him would  not support him. He subsequently formed the Union of Unemployed Workers and in 1989 created the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty. John Clarke  was a worker  factory,  laid off  in 1982.  After losing his job, he helped form a union of the unemployed. In 1990, this organization helped out in the campaign that led to the formation of OCAP. In the autumn of 1990, the founding conference of OCAP took place. After some debate, it set a course for the organization that committed it to mobilizing poor and homeless people to fight back through militant, direct action
