How To Deal With Gaza After Hamas

If, as anticipated, Israel launches a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip to drive out the Hamas government that deployed hundreds of terrorists to inflict barbaric horrors on Israeli civilians on October 7, the question remains: what next?

Israel completely withdrew from Gaza in 2005. It removed all Israeli settlers and military personnel from the territory, and sealed it off from Israel, taking a wait-and-see approach. The hope was that self-governing Palestinians in Gaza would take the opportunity to build a peaceful, prosperous society that would be able to coexist with the Jewish State of Israel. That hope did not materialize.

Instead, within a year, Ḥarakat al-Muqāwamah, the Islamic Resistance Movement known by its portmanteau Hamas, became the governing body in Gaza. Hamas is a fanatical religious organization committed to reestablishing an Islamic caliphate and has genocidal designs towards Jews, which it makes explicit in its founding charter.

Since 2006, Hamas, aided by the governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar, has made its main purpose to wage war against Israel both ideologically and through relentless terrorism. Ideologically, it tunned its education system into a hate factory that teaches kids, from the time they learn to speak, that Jews are evil creatures who not only deserve to be killed, but the reward for murdering them is a paradise in the afterlife. The terrorism took the forms of launching indiscriminate missiles at Israeli civilian centers, savage raids into southern Israel, and attempts at hostage taking. Contrary to popular belief in the west, these raids were never halted for any length of time since 2006. They had lulls and when these lulls turned into onslaughts, Israel was forced to periodically retaliate in force as a deterrent.

The scale of the sadistic, depraved brutality of this last incursion by terrorists controlled by Hamas has completely changed the equation for Israel’s leadership. No country could accept hundreds of terrorists invading and raping, murdering, and torturing innocents as young as infants, and to abduct children and the elderly. America imposed regime change on Afghanistan for acts less savage and on Iraq, which never launched an attach on the US at all.

The only viable solution to Israel for the war declared by Hamas is the complete reoccupation of Gaza and installation of a new government. For it to work in the long term, there is only one approach, but one that has come to be disdained in western capitols. Nation Building.

There is a particular conceit in the west that everyone is basically the same and if given the opportunity, they will all welcome the peaceful lives we have in liberal democracies. This outlook does not take history of culture into account. It took western civilization over two thousand years to develop the democratic traditions we enjoy, and we still haven’t perfected them. To expect a place like Gaza, a theocratic dictatorship with no liberal democratic tradition, to become a functioning democracy in a matter of months or even a few years is completely unrealistic.

To democratize and essentially de-Hamasify Gaza, it will require something like a Marshall Plan for Palestine. Democratic political parties will need to be fostered with western assistance. A massive shift in culture and education will be required, and the Palestinians have demonstrated little will and no ability to do this on their own.

Other powers, some from western nations, others perhaps from more moderate nations like Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, will have to administer Gaza until the task is complete.  

There is another component which is absolutely necessary but intimidating. Any armed resistance or efforts by parties in Gaza to reestablish terrorist political movements have to be crushed as ruthlessly as chemotherapy attacks cancer cells.

Based on historical example of post World War 2 Europe and Japan, this effort will take at least twenty years, and possibly even a decade or more longer. It is an expensive, risky, and daunting prospect. But the alternative, as anyone who has witnessed what has occurred in the region should now realize, is a continuation of the endless, horrific cycle of violence and despair. 

Omar Khadr is a killer and despite what the media says, Canadians are right to be disgusted with the Trudeau sellout to him

Whether or not he killed US Army Medic Christopher Speer, the crime for which the scion of an al Qaida family pleaded guilty, is immaterial to why most Canadians are revolted by the Trudeau government's $10.5 Million payout and apology to Omar Khadr. Having taken up arms against a coalition, of which Canada was a part, that fought the Taliban in Afghanistan, and building IEDs of the type that killed scores of Canadian soldiers, Khadr is without question a terrorist and traitor.

But as his defenders try to cast doubt on this element of the saga, let's address whether or not Omar Khadr is in all probability a killer.

Khadr's advocates say his confession and guilty plea were extracted by torture and coercion.

Khadr certainly endured forms of mistreatment while incarcerated. But after returning to Canada, where he was no longer fearful of abuse, Khadr said, not as his proponents claim, that he did not throw the grenade which killed Speer, but that he's unsure if the grenade he threw was the one that ended the medic's life. But Khadr does admit having thrown a grenade at the Americans. So at the very least he tried to kill Speer and his comrades. But the evidence becomes more conclusive.

In 2002, in the Khost Province of Afghanistan, US forces engaged with an al Qaeda/Taliban stronghold. After an attempt to negotiate a search of the building was met with gunfire from the stronghold, a firefight broke out and then the Americans called in a airborne bomb strike.

Following the bombing raid, Speer a media, and other US Delta Force soldiers approached the building to search for dead and wounded. As the approached, a grenade was lobbed from within the building which fatally wounded Speer.

Now here's the easy logic to follow. Khadr said he threw a grenade. From reports of the post-bombing conflict, only one grenade was thrown. It therefore follows to reason that the grenade thrown by Khadr was the one which ended Speer's life.

Khadr would have been in custody and treated by Americans the same regardless of whether Canadian officials had failed to inform him of his rights during questioning. It is not Canada's fault that Omar Khadr became a terrorist.  It is the fault of his reprehensible family, in particular Khadr's father Ahmed, who was al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden's bag man and who took the young Omar along with him on on his nefarious exploits. It is therefor not Canada which owes compensation and an apology to Khadr, but his own awful progenitors.

An Egyptian/Palestinian family, the Khadrs have a lengthy history of exploiting Canadians, with the assistance of Liberal Prime Ministers. Ahmed Khadr was was incarcerated in Pakistan in 1995 for his involvement in a terrorist attack on the Egyptian Embassy in that country. Following advocacy on the senior Khadr's behalf  by the Canadian Arab Federation, Prime Minister Jean Chretien intervened and secured his release.

Following his return to Canada, Ahmed Khadr embarked on a campaign of fundraising and assistance for Osama bin Laden. To what extent he helped raise the funds that were used in the 2001  9/11 terror attacks that resulted in the murder of three thousand Americans is unclear. But it remains a distinct possibility that Canada's Liberal government was an unwitting accessory to that atrocity.

It was at the time of the 9/11 attacks that Ahmed had brought his son Omar to Afghanistan, later abandoning him there as he went off at bin Laden's bequest. Two years later, Ahmed would be killed in a shootout with Pakistani security forces.

Is Omar Khadr a victim? Certainly. of his family, and very possibly, he was a victim of rape and sexual abuse by al Qaeda commander Abu Laith al-Libi. Charlie Manson also was an abused child, but that doesn't mean he deserves a get-out-of-jail free card and a multi-million dollar payout.

Perhaps the only benefit to this episode is that it has revealed the wide fissure between Canada's dinosaur mainstream media and the people in whose interest they purport to act.

The media is almost uniformly supportive of the Trudeau/Khadr payout and apology. This places them at odds with 71 percent of the Canadian public, from all political stripes, who are disgusted with the deal. Despite a media so invested in the Khadr stakes that they condescend to and insult those who disagree with them, they have remained entirely unconvincing. At least there's some comfort in seeing that the average Canadian refuses to be told what to think by posturing nitwits in the media.

Khadr is not, not has he ever been a victim of Canada. He and his family have done nothing but exploit Canada and been a burden on the country since their arrival. Yet he has legions of useful idiot supporters here who have formed a veritable cult around him.And with payout money from the Trudeau government,  likely in part to buy silence in their complicity with events surrounding that family, Canadians continue to pay the price for admitting that clan of terrorists. Even if Khadr had been awarded funds from a Canadian court for violation of his Charter rights, the notion that it would be more than a small fraction of the ten and a half million hush money he received from Trudeau is absurd.

Meanwhile, the family of Christopher Speer continues to feel the loss of the husband and father who Omar Khadr took from them, and now whose memory he continues to insult.

A Hezbollah-friendly Public School Board candidate in Toronto

I'm running for Public School Board Trustee in Toronto's Trinity-Spadina. My opponent is someone who went out to speak to and support a pro-Hezbollah rally.  Now imagine if someone like that was making decisions about how public education was delivered in Toronto:

TORONTO - During the heat of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon in July 2006, Ausma Malik was front and centre at a peace rally denouncing the conflict and Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s support of Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah missile fire.

Pictures from that day show the Muslim woman, wearing a headscarf and attending the University of Toronto at the time, outside the U.S. Consulate, speaking beside Ali Mallah, a well-known pro-Palestinian, pro-Hamas activist and CUPE official...

... (Toronto Sun reporter Sue-Ann Levy) asked Chow at a Toronto Sun editorial board how she could align herself with a woman who reportedly contended publicly that Israel committed “state-sanctioned murder” and whether such a woman espoused “caring” values.

At first Chow, looking like a deer caught in the headlights, said she wasn’t 100% familiar with Malik’s background or her “foreign affairs point of view.”

Asked whether she checks people out before she endorses them, Chow said she does know “who she is”...

...Malik’s opponent for trustee, Richard Klagsbrun, who happens to be Jewish, said he is running to “rid the TDSB of the egregious politicization” that has made its way into the curriculum.

“Ms. Malik, a speaker at a rally that was out supporting an Islamist terror group ... represents much of what’s wrong with public education in Toronto,” he said.

Justin Trudeau, Montreal's alleged "terror mosque," and the media

The National Post's Jonathan Kay is smart, witty, and an eminently reasonable guy. He's also one of Canada's most insightful, articulate journalists. If that wasn't explicit enough, I like the guy.

It's that reasonableness, I would assume, that propels him to resist hysteria and oppose leaping upon any bandwagon seeking the vilification of an entire community. Because of the significant support for terrorism among the Imams and congregants of Canada's mosques, Muslims by-and-large have been unfairly portrayed as supporting terrorism, when in fact the opposite is true. Most Canadian Muslims are law-abiding citizens who detest terrorism, and indeed, like other faith-communities in Canada with their religions' houses of worship, only a minority of Muslims even attend mosque with any regularity.

It seems in the spirit of turn-of-the 20th Century newspaperman Finley Peter Dunne's quip that his business was "to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted," that Jon has lashed back at Sun News' attack on Liberal party leader Justin Trudeau's recently publicized visit to a Montreal mosque linked to extremism and the recruitment of terrorists.

Bashing both Sun News and its audience, Jon wrote, "some of the network’s journalists seem to regard themselves as semi-official members of Stephen Harper’s opposition-research team. And since many Sun viewers already suspect that Trudeau was born in Kenya along with Barack Obama, its Muslim Menace programming presumably plays well to the network’s base. " But the crux of Jon's complaint seems to be that reports of the Assuna Annabawiyah's links to terrorism are a few years old, and therefore invalid, writing:

"In fact, the network botched the story: In the clip that Sun News had loaded on its web site as of 2pm on Thursday, the host reads out an old statement from the U.S. government, declaring that the mosque is among nine institutions where “known al-Qaeda members are recruited, facilitated or trained.” But the statement actually didn’t say “are.” It said “were.” (You can actually see the text in the printed version of the U.S. memo, which appears on the screen as the Sun host misquotes the key word.) As this CBC report from 2011 indicates, the reference relates to several jihadis who passed through Montreal in the late 1990s. "

I'm not sure how convincing a retort that is. The Assuna Annabawiyah was listed by US intelligence sources as Canada's equivalent of London's notorious terror-linked Finsbury Park Mosque. One of the Assuna mosque's former Imams is currently being held in Guantanamo for terrorism and one of its former congregants is currently on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List with a $5 Million dollar bounty on his head, and that's just two examples of many. As recently, not a decade ago but last year, Montreal's La Presse reported that Bernard Drainville, Quebec's Minister for Democratic Institutions, asked that Revenue Canada investigate the mosque for concerns about its abusing its charitable status.

That same La Presse report stated that the mosque's facebook page had a post saying that it is  "incumbent upon the Muslim woman to stay in her home and not get out except in case of urgent need, and then in this case under strict conditions." Assuna Annabawiyah's facebook page still contains a video giving helpful hints on how to avoid shaking hands with a woman.

Is this proof on ongoing support for terror? Perhaps not. But its history and the values the Assuna Annabawiyah mosque espouses are hardly of the sort that a responsible political leader should give implicit approbation with a high-profile visit.

It was a serious error of judgment by Justin Trudeau to make a pilgrimage to such a place to pander for votes, but one that is completely in character for the foolhardy Liberal leader. However pointing out such matters is not only in the purview of journalists, but is their responsibility.

Sun News was living up to that responsibility by highlighting Justin Trudeau's visit to the Assuna Annabawiyah mosque. Perhaps rather than using the controversy of that visit to bash a rival and mitigate Trudeau's gaffe, the National Post should be exploring whether such a party leader is fit to govern Canada.

Good to see he invokes the United Nations as being prepared to do the bidding of genocidal, Islamofascist  monsters. Not that there was really any doubt that the UN sides with them:

The so-called "Human Rights Watch" is a group that gets money from a similar icon of "Human Rights," Saudi Arabia.

One of their top officials, who happens to be anti-Israel, just by coincidence I'm sure, is a Nazi aficionado.

And best of all, they were boosters of that other "Human Rights" paradise, Libya's Gaddafi regime.

But they do hate the pro-western, liberal democracy of Israel, and they are now condemning Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird.

And The Globe and Mail, as our "unbiased" Canadian mainstream media so often does, credulously promoted that without an iota of context or research.

Issam al-Yamani, an Executive Director of Palestine House in Mississauga and a member of CAIA’s Coordinating Committee, called for launching a third Palestinian Intifada (meaning violent uprising) in Palestine and the Diaspora, implicitly also in Canada.

As an amusing aside, an article about al-Yamani's deportation hearing reported the "Court heard how Mr. Al Yamani is a changed man since coming to Canada; living here has made him "multicultural" and he now rejects violence "even under the rules of war." "

NDP Deputy Leader Libby Davies uses Gaza crisis to deliberately undermine Thomas Mulcair

There's an internal war going on in the New Democratic Party over Israel. The party's hard-core, anti-capitalist, loony-left fanatics have the end of the Jewish state as part of their religious canon. However, as crazy as he knows they are, and distasteful as he finds the fanatical bigots in the NDP,  party leader Thomas Mulcair is in a difficult position with them.

The hard left and their effective leaders Libby Davies and Megan Leslie represent the zealous activists who do lots of the party legwork during elections, and they make up a core part of NDP support. But by appealing to the nutcase left, the NDP simultaneously alienates voters who aren't ideologically rabid fanatics. To make the NDP more palatable to sane voters, Mulcair has done some work to sanitize the party, recently keeping hateful anti-Israel candidates like Paul Manly from seeking the party's nomination for a federal seat. But he also has to tread the fine line of continuing to engage the NDP's worst elements.

That tightrope Mulcair is walking is a difficult one, and increasingly so as with an apparently deliberate effort by his Deputy Leader Libby Davies to undermine him.

Davies severely embarrassed her party and ruined an opportunity for the NDP to capitalize on the Conservative and previous Liberal governments' handling of the Afghan file by become a major distraction with her anti-Israel rhetoric in 2010. In a statement made to a citizen journalist in a YouTube video, Davies' effectively said that Israel had no legitimacy as a country. The upheaval that report caused in the media and among her own party led to Davies being condemned by Mulcair and a humiliating pilgrimage by the late NDP leader Jack Layton to Israel's ambassador in Canada to apologize for her comments.

In the aftermath of that 2010 catastrophe for the NDP,  Davies was told in no uncertain terms by the party leaders, including Mulcair, to stay away from commenting on international issues that had no bearing on her brief as Health Critic. But among the many things of which Libby Davies can be accused, being bright or good at impulse control are not among them. Davies continued to occasionally veer into outbursts about Israel, such as with her support for the Sea Hitler flotilla that attempted to break the arms embargo of the terror group Hamas.

Now, just days after NDP leader Mulcair issued a balanced call for the cessation of hostilities and blamed Hamas for the continuation of violence, Davies is undermining her party leader by endorsing a petition which places all the blame for the Gaza crisis on Israel.

Composed by her fellow NDP Sea Hitler supporter, Quebec MP Alexandre Boulerice,  the petition completely neglects to mention Hamas but does state: "There is only one solution to achieve this for both Palestinians and Israelis: putting an end to the occupation of the West Bank and the siege of Gaza. " Absent from Boulerice's and Davies' reasoning is that the blockade of Gaza was caused by the launch of missiles from it and the fact that it is controlled by a terror group committed to not only the elimination of Israel but the murder of any Jew it can find. The West Bank occupation continues, despite many offers that would have given the Palestinians a state of their own, because no Palestinian leadership has been found that would negotiate in good faith. 

The Davies wing's resentment of Thomas Mulcair is well known. Murray Dobbin, a columnist for rabble.ca, a radical, far-left online magazine published by Libby Davies' spouse Kim Elliott, recently sent out an email encouraging NDP supporters to withhold donations from the party. Dobbin's email pronounced:   "...Mulcair sucker-punched Vancouver MP Libby Davies for a Youtube interview in which Davies criticized Israel's illegal occupation. It was a disgusting betrayal of NDP principles and ended up with the humiliation of Jack Layton who went cap-in-hand to the Israeli ambassador and apologized. It was a low point in the NDP's and Layton's history. Fortunately, a wave of protest prevented Layton from demoting Davies. Now Mulcair, a devoted Zionist who refuses to adhere to the NDP’s policy on Palestine, is at it again...Just another reason to boycott all NDP fund-raising appeals until the party begins behaving in a principled manner worthy of a social democratic party."

The Davies wing of radicals within the NDP want to use Israel as a dagger to stab Thomas Mulcair in the back. Whether Mulcair can strike a balance with them, is undermined by them, or is forced to discipline them is something that will be a very interesting situation to watch unfold in the coming months before the next election.

Today in the heart of Toronto's downtown, foreign-born fanatics were screaming their fury at Canada and about Canada's support for the middle east's only democracy. They were there in the hundreds. Grubby men in shabby, earth-toned clothes accompanied by pudgy, hirsute women shrouded in chadors and hijabs, all clustered beneath a sea of flags they brought representing Canada's enemies like Iran. Their clothes were like some perverse caricature of the satanic ideology of the terror group Hamas, which they came to support and which boasts that while their enemies love life, the Islamists love death. Some of these miscreants even waved flags of organizations listed by our government as banned terror groups, including those of Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad in Palestine.

In the days before Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister, these hateful wretches would have been thought of as a 5th column among us, but now they're considered just another part of Canada's multicultural fabric. And the picture of them is like a titanic advertisement for the need for massive immigration reform in Canada.

Only an idiot moral relativist would require an explanation of Israel's need to defend itself from a barrage of hundreds of missiles that the terror group Hamas has launched against the Jewish State in recent days. No other country on earth would tolerate such an assault against its citizens, yet only Israel is urged to "exercise restraint" under such circumstances.

The vapid, disgusting, bloodthirsty horde on Bloor Street accused Israel of genocide, while half Israel's population was taking cover in bomb shelters from the attacks from Gaza. Yet even so, while Gaza's population has been urged by their leaders to murder every Jew they could lay their hands on, Israel continued to provide food and fuel to the Palestinians so that they would not suffer a humanitarian crisis. Imagine if those positions were reversed and the Palestinians were in the stronger position. No one with any familiarity of Hamas imagines for a moment that the Palestinians wouldn't gleefully exterminate Israel's entire population given the chance.

Not that any imagination is necessary. Hamas, the rulers of Gaza, have explicitly declared that in its attacks on Israel, every Israeli is a target.

Now think for a moment what would happen if another government had said such a thing. What if Israel had said that about the Palestinians or if America had said that about Iraqis? The outrage and calls for criminal trials for war crimes would be global and deafening.

So where is that same condemnation of Hamas? Nowhere.

The Palestinian leadership is expected to behave like animals and that's exactly what they do.  In Islamic countries, and from the 5th column supporting them in the west, we only hear condemnation of Israel.

Most Muslim immigrants to Canada are peaceful, decent people who came here to escape the murderous, hateful fanaticism we saw laid bare on Toronto's streets today by Palestinian terror supporters. Through a flaw in our immigration system, we have allowed some of the types of monsters most Muslim immigrants were fleeing into our country to spread their bile. It's well past the time the Canadian government did something to stop, and hopefully reverse that flow of evil.

Palestinian Official: "When we murder Jewish children, it's the Jews' fault" or words to that effect

The National Council of Canadian Muslims' propaganda for people incapable of fact checking

Back in mid-January of this year, a kerfuffle erupted when Prime Minister Stephen Harper's spokesman responded to criticism by the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) for including Rabbi Daniel Korobkin as part of an official Canadian delegation to Israel. Korobkin's unpardonable offense in the eyes of the NCCM was having introduced anti-Islam activists Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer at a Toronto event.

In response, PM Harper's spokesman Jason MacDonald said about NCCM, "We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas."

A publicly outraged NCCM threatened to sue the Prime Minster's Office for libel. Months have gone by and that libel suit has now been filed with the court. But its success or failure will be affected by whether an abundance of information establishes that its links to Hamas are not nearly as far-removed as NCCM would want the Canadian public to believe.

In its most recent PR effort, the NCCM has produced a somewhat lengthy video to try to make out that its links to Hamas are tenuous, like the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game which indicates that everyone is eventually linked to everyone if you are willing to stretch long enough.

Except the stretch between Hamas and NCCM is not all that much of a stretch. No, the NCCM is not smuggling bombs to Hamas, nor is it advocating suicide bombing as an organization. But despite the misleading information in the NCCM video, one of the directors of its previous incarnation, CAIR-CAN, has in fact advocated "combative Jihad" (read suicide bombings) against Israel.

That director, Jamal Badawi, who was listed in a directory of members of The Muslim Brotherhood,  Hamas' parent organization,  was listed as a Director of CAIR-CAN as recently as recently as four months ago, when the NCCM was still redirecting visitors to its website back to the old CAIR-CAN site.

According to investigative journalist Patrick Poole, former CAIR-CAN Board Member Badawi "was a featured speaker at a conference in Qatar honoring Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi, where Badawi shared the speaker’s podium with Khaled Mishaal, the head of Hamas and a designated terrorist by both the U.S. and Canada."

Another factor in the links between Hamas and NCCM are that as CAIR-CAN, the Canadian group was the northern branch of the US-based CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) which was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land terror-financing trial. Naturally, the NCCM is trying to downplay its relationship with the CAIR claiming in the video that they were completely independent of one another and that the use of the CAIR name was only related to a verbal agreement for trademark purposes.

But is that NCCM claim true?

Only if former CAIR-CAN boss Sheema Khan was lying in an affidavit filed with the Ontario Supreme Court.

As the Point de Bascule blog reported:

In 2003, (former CAIR-CAN leader Sheema) Khan swore an affidavit for the Ontario Supreme Court in connection with a trademark dispute. In the affidavit Khan, (former CSIS Strategic Planning Head David) Harris testified, “states categorically that CAIR-CAN is under the direction and control of the American CAIR organization.” Moreover, Khan, while a senior official of CAIR-CAN, also served on the board of CAIR.

Part of the obfuscation the NCCM is offering in its video is its mocking of Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird's suggestion that Canadians can "Google the group in question, and do some research on their own and come to their own conclusions."

The NCCM video would have you believe that information on the Internet is so unreliable that it's effectively worthless.

Yes, there are a lot of falsehoods and deception online, as the NCCM video itself is an ample example. But it's also a research tool filled with credible sources providing information that can be verified. So when the NCCM tries to mock a Canadian government Minister for telling people to "research on their own and come to their own conclusions," and instead mindlessly accept what the Muslim advocacy group tells them, it's not hard to figure between the two which is the more credible and honest.

Olivia will have the Islamist vote wrapped up if she's foolish enough to give up her job as MP to take the risk of running for mayor of Toronto. Or maybe not, if she shares her position on Gay Rights with them. It will be one of those "unspoken" matters that the far left like to rely on as they sell out western values to try to buy power.

How is it that the branch office of a group a US court found participated in funding terror isn't linked to terror?

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is the Canadian branch office of the Council of American-Islamic Relations, a group was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Terror financing trial, that secured multiple convictions.

NCCM is threatening to sue Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his spokesman Jason MacDonald for libel when the latter referred to them with: "We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas."

As noted in Robert Sibley's blog at Ottawa Citizen: "In 2010, U.S. District Court Judge Jorge A. Solis ruled that there was “ample evidence”: that CAIR participated in a “criminal conspiracy” led by the Holy Land Foundation, which was Hamas’s key fundraising agency in the United States."

So perhaps someone could explain how that is not a link to the terrorist group Hamas, because to me the link seems rather obvious.

Formerly known as the Council on American-Islamic Relations - Canada (CAIR-CAN), as of today, the NCCM still redirects visitors to its website back to its old CAIR-CAN site. CAIR-CAN leaders have denied an operational link between it and the US home office. But as Sibley recounts from research done by the Quebec-based blog Point de Bascule:

Furthermore, one of CAIR-CAN's long-serving Board members was the notorious Jamal Badawi, who as of today is still listed as a Board member on the CAIR-CAN website.  An Egyptian-born Muslim cleric and former professor at St. Mary's University in Halifax, Badawi was listed on The Muslim Brotherhood's shura council in a document entered as evidence in the Holy Land Terror Trial.  Badawi has endorsed suicide bombings and according to investigative journalist Patrick Poole, "was a featured speaker at a conference in Qatar honoring Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi, where Badawi shared the speaker’s podium with Khaled Mishaal, the head of Hamas and a designated terrorist by both the U.S. and Canada."

Poole also reports that Badawi "sits on the board of directors of Qaradawi’s International Association of Muslim Scholars (IAMS), which just a few months after its founding in 2004 issued a fatwa authorizing the killing of American troops in Iraq."

The NCCM and its media cheering-section like The Toronto Star are trotting out supporters for the Muslim group including virtually unknown organizations like The Canadian Association of Jews and Muslims (CAJM). The idea of friendship between religious groups is as laudable as the idea that Jews and Muslims in Canada should be divided over government foreign policy is tragic. However there is a certain type of ostrich-like idiocy that certain self-described progressives will engage in so that they can deny some harsh realities, and CAJM's co-chair Barbara Landau is part of that sad strain.

In 2012, Landau was a judge at the North American Muslim Foundation's speech competition on the topic of  "anti-Semitism and Islamophobia." One observer, Sarah Margles, a member of a "progressive" synagogue that participated as observers of the contest, reported on a blog post that she has since deleted (but was recorded by the blog Sassy Wire):

 "Almost all the speeches were misguided about anti-Semitism. Most of them said it was something that happened in the Holocaust but has ended. The most egregious speech quoted the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as if it were true. Many talked about Jewish money and power."

Despite two attempts to reach her for comment following exposure of the incident, Landau would not respond to discuss the matter with me.

In certain quarters of Islamist communities, anti-Semitism is so ingrained that even when professing to oppose it, they invoke anti-Semitc canards. The response of people who have been programmed to think they are "progressive" is to negate of deny that any group that claims to be "oppressed" can commit a wrong. Instead, like bizarre groups like "Queers Against Israeli Apartheid" which makes common cause with Islamists who would happily see them stoned to death because of their sexual orientation, "progressive" Jews frequently serve as enablers to extremists who have cheered on those who would commit a genocide against Jews in Israel.

Canadians who detest Stephen Harper, both in politics and the media,  who boast about being "progressive" will leap upon any excuse to demonize the Prime Minister and his government.  Many, without knowing any of the details of the NCCM's background, have instinctively sided with the Muslim group in hope the matter will embarrass Stephen Harper. What is more likely is that people siding with NCCM will embarrass themselves.

In March, the NCCM is having a $200-a-seat fundraiser featuring the American-Iranian writer Reza Aslan.  Only a few days ago, Aslan insinuated the beautiful Hollywood movie star Scarlett Johansson was the equivalent of a Nazi supporter for being the spokesperson for the Israeli soft drink maker SodaStream.

Anyone who thinks that aligning themselves with a the local branch of a co-conspirator in Hamas terror-funding and people who promote extremist, bigoted hate and invective could find that the backfire taints them for a very long time.

Canadian Muslim group with reprehensible links issues libel notice to Prime Minister Harper

According to the CTV website, The National Council of Canadian Muslims "is demanding an apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his chief spokesman for a comment it says links the organization to a terrorist group. The National Council of Canadian Muslims has filed a notice of libel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice that accuses Jason MacDonald of acting maliciously.."

Following complaints from the Muslim group about the inclusion of a rabbi who participated in an event with anti-Jihadist activists Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer with the Prime Minister's delegation to Israel, PMO spokesman Jason MacDonald stated, "We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas."

Until last July, NCCM was known as CAIR-CAN, and was the Canadian branch of the US-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR was listed in court documents as an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Terror-financing trial. As the Investigative Project on Terrorism reported, Assistant US Attorney General Ronald Welch concluded that trial transcripts "demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders, and the Palestine Committee. Evidence was also introduced that demonstrated a relationship between the Palestine Committee and HAMAS, which was designated as a terrorist organization in 1995."

The Quebec-based blog Point de Bascule has documented members of CAIR-CAN's leaderhip endorsing extremist Muslim groups including the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the parent organization from which the terror group Hamas sprang. That blog also noted:

In 2002, while she was CAIR-CAN Chair, Sheema Khan endorsed Youssef Qaradawi by introducing him as a “renowned Muslim scholar” to her Globe and Mail readers. Youssef Qaradawi is the most important leader of the Muslim Brotherhood international network, its spiritual leader. He is also considered Hamas’ spiritual guide. In the past, his fatwas have been quoted by Hamas to justify its suicide operations against civilians at the heart of Israel.

The 'renowned Muslim scholar' to whom the then CAIR-CAN Chair referred is a anti-Semitic fanatic who has said that Allah used Hitler as a "divine punishment" for the Jews and has claimed Jews exaggerated the Holocaust.

Lawfare is a tactic that Muslims groups in Canada are attempting to use to silence criticism and exposure of their activities. But they are having limited success. Only last month, a Federal Court upheld a decision by Canada's Citizenship Minister Jason Kenney to cease federal funding for the Canadian Arab Federation. The judge agreed with Kenney's view that the Arab organization appeared to be anti-Semitic and to support terror groups, and ordered them to pay the Minister's court costs.

By taking on the Prime Minister's office, the National Council of Canadian Muslims may find that the rather than being vindicated, they end up highlighting their own reprehensible associations.
