Kelly McParland: Linda McQuaig is running for the NDP. But which NDP?

...Linda McQuaig is considered a star candidate, and is as old-timey NDP as you can get.  Big Oil is bad. Rich people are bad. “Interfering” government keeps the world civilized and creates the environment for success. Taxes are good, especially high taxes. McQuaig advocates a marginal tax rate of 60% for incomes above $300,000, and 70% for incomes above $2.5-million — well above the “confiscatory” level identified by her would-be party leader. Nevermind, Mr. Mulcair said on the weekend, McQuaig is an “extraordinary” candidate, but should she win she’d would be part of the “team.”
He’s right, that is extraordinary: a candidate who has campaigned for years for higher taxes, whose reputation is based substantially on her dedication to that cause and her willingness to champion it in the face of much criticism, but who says she’d drop it and play along with a policy she rejects if she manages to get elected. And a leader who is happy to have her on the team even though she stands for everything he says is yesterday’s NDP.
