Australian Art Gallery declares art must not cause offense
Or at least, must not cause offense to one particular group...
Photos of women depicted wearing hijabs have been pulled from an forthcoming art exhibition in Melbourne's CBD.
The Platform art gallery in the Degraves Street underpass made a last-minute call on Monday to exclude the photo collection, claiming its representations of hijabs could imply disempowered women.
The photos at the centre of issue show women with hair draped around their necks and faces to resemble the Islamic veil.
Pro-Israel models in knee socks look a hell of a lot better than those anti-Israel ones

‘US framework deal puts 75-80% of settlers under Israeli rule’
The Obama administration will soon present a framework for an Israeli-Palestinian agreement that the sides may accept with reservations as a basis for a final deal by year’s end, the top US negotiator told Jewish leaders.
Martin Indyk, the State Department’s lead envoy to the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, told the Jewish leaders on Thursday that under the framework agreement about 75-80 percent of settlers would remain in what would become Israeli sovereign territory through land swaps; he added that it was his impression that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was not averse to allowing settlers who want to remain as citizens of the Palestinian state.
Robert Sibley: The NCCM – Pouring the same old halal wine from a relabeled bottle
...The organization once known as the Council on American Islamic Relations (Canada) is desperately trying to rebrand itself. In July, group’s leaders renamed their group as the National Council of Canadian Muslims. The idea, of course, is to get away from CAIR-CAN’s tarnished reputation, at least in the minds of some critics, as a hideout for closet Islamists. Is it working? Not judging by the NCCM’s latest antics, which, to my mind, demonstrate that what we’re getting is the same old halal wine in a relabeled bottle. The organization wants a “full-throated apology and retraction,” NCCM’s executive director Ihsaan Gardee told Evan Solomon on CBC’s News Network’s Power and Politics show. Why? Because the prime minister’s spokesman, Jason MacDonald, dared to dismiss the objections of the organization once known as CAIR-CAN to Stephen Harper taking a rabbi it didn’t like along on this recent trip to the Middle East. “We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas,” MacDonald said.

A very interesting perspective on the Woody Allen allegations
"...Maybe sleeping with your friend’s husband doesn’t earn as many demerits as sleeping with your girlfriend’s adopted daughter, but if you’re waving the “Never Forget” banner in Mia’s honor, let’s be consistent and take a moment to also remember the late Dory Previn. (Or better yet, let’s forget the whole damn thing, considering it’s none of our business.)..."

Charity Oxfam loses its only A-list movie star ambassador over its hypocritical anti-Israel stance
Scarlett Johansson resigned from her role as a goodwill ambassador for the charity Oxfam because of its criticism of her being a spokesperson for the Israeli soft drink maker SodaStream.
Johansson was the highest profile person on its list of "ambassadors" and the only A-lister among the actors it uses to promote itself. Having traveled to devastated regions throughout the world, lobbied politicians and civil society leaders and participated in other fundraising on their behalf, Johansson has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more for Oxfam.
This development will cause further loss to Oxfam's fundraising ability as the insult to supporters of Israel will result in their donating to other charities engaged in similar work.

Olivia Chow wants to be your kids' role model
Chow demonstrating with Islamist hatemonger and antisemitic al Quds Day organizer Zafar Bangash |
Part of the purpose of Chow's tedious exercise in narcissism, titled My Journey, is to whitewash her past with some revisionist history.
As The Globe and Mail reports:
Ms. Chow also tries to clear the air on the accusations that she and Mr. Layton lived in subsidized units when they both had apartments in a downtown Toronto co-op housing building before and after they were married.Since Ms Chow is claiming it's "slander" to accuse her and her husband, who were making a combined annual income of almost $150,000 of exploiting taxpayers and abusing their position by helping themselves to subsidized housing, then she may want to take issue with the official record of the Legislature of Ontario.
“Both Jack and I paid full market rent for our apartments,” she writes, later adding, “The self-appointed lynch mob sought to destroy the safe haven Jack and I sought not just for our family but for the community. To this day, the slander is repeated by people who mistakenly believed it at the time – as well as by opponents who know better.”
According to Hansard (the Legislature's official transcripts), a 1998 exchange between Provincial Housing Minister Al Leach and MPP's Rosario Marchese, Terence Young, and John Gerretsen went as follows:
Mr Young: In New York City today, I'm sure you're aware, Minister -- I don't know if the committee members are aware -- there are rental control units occupied by wealthy movie stars, $2,000 a month or whatever. We've seen a situation here where two Toronto councillors with the combined income of I think over $130,000 to $140,000 a year were both living in government-assisted housing. How do we prevent wealthy people from living in housing subsidized by their fellow taxpayers and just get money to the people who have the need?Hon Mr Leach: I'm aware of the councillors in question. I understand that they are no longer living there but they were paying market value. But as I pointed out earlier, the market value that was charged to a co-op was about $900 a month where the actual cost of operating the unit was $1,200 a month, so that people who claimed that they were paying market value were still getting a substantial subsidy from the taxpayers of Ontario. There is no doubt about that whatsoever. I believe that the individuals you are talking about, who will go nameless, are no longer in that circumstance.Hon Mr Leach: I think if you look around the city of Toronto council, you might find that there are still a couple who are living in co-op housing units.Hon Mr Leach: It's a good concept as long as you pay your full share. If you want to pay $1,200 a month, which is the actual operating cost, be my guest, but don't live in a co-op saying you're paying market rent of $900 when it costs $1,200 to operate and you're getting a subsidy of $300 from the taxpayers of Ontario.
When asked about Toronto's current mayor, Chow's pat line, which she has repeated in a number of interviews, is that she doesn't 'think Rob Ford is a very good role model for the kids.'
Oh. So is that what we elect our mayors to do, be role models for 8 year olds?
Actually, 'a role model for the kids' isn't a consideration when I cast a vote. I want a politician who tries to keep election promises and takes the use of public expenditures and the wishes of constituents very seriously. As long as he or she is doing a good job representing my interests, as far as a politician's personal life goes, as the expression goes, I couldn't give a toss.
If being a role model is the case, then one could as easily question the value of the leadership of a dopey pothead who only got his job because he has a famous last name. Or that of a pompous liar who frequented hand job parlors.
Ms Chow's repeated criticism of Ford's adequacy as a role model suggests she thinks that she would make a suitable substitute in that department.
There probably aren't a lot of people who would want someone for a role model who is a rich person who shrilly accuses people of "slander" for calling her out for milking taxpayers for $300 a month.
For that matter, I'm not sure how someone who has spent almost all her adult life in the public trough as a professional politician, with no notable political achievement to her name other than being the junior partner in a political marriage, qualifies as a role model. But you wouldn't know that from the way the liberal media fawns over Ms. Chow.
While they were both MP's Jack Layton and Olivia Chow could be described as Mr. & Mrs. Gravy Train. The pair of them charged over $1.1 million per year to Canadian taxpayers in expenses alone so they could maintain their lavish lifestyle.
Rob Ford has voluntarily returned his salary increases back to the City each year and cut his own office budget and expenses. Considering that, Olivia Chow may want to stop using her "role model" line, because upon closer examination, compared to Rob Ford, she may not do too well in that area either.

How is it that the branch office of a group a US court found participated in funding terror isn't linked to terror?
The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is the Canadian branch office of the Council of American-Islamic Relations, a group was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Terror financing trial, that secured multiple convictions.
NCCM is threatening to sue Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his spokesman Jason MacDonald for libel when the latter referred to them with: "We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas."
As noted in Robert Sibley's blog at Ottawa Citizen: "In 2010, U.S. District Court Judge Jorge A. Solis ruled that there was “ample evidence”: that CAIR participated in a “criminal conspiracy” led by the Holy Land Foundation, which was Hamas’s key fundraising agency in the United States."
So perhaps someone could explain how that is not a link to the terrorist group Hamas, because to me the link seems rather obvious.
Formerly known as the Council on American-Islamic Relations - Canada (CAIR-CAN), as of today, the NCCM still redirects visitors to its website back to its old CAIR-CAN site. CAIR-CAN leaders have denied an operational link between it and the US home office. But as Sibley recounts from research done by the Quebec-based blog Point de Bascule:
Poole also reports that Badawi "sits on the board of directors of Qaradawi’s International
Association of Muslim Scholars (IAMS), which just a few months after its
founding in 2004 issued a fatwa authorizing the killing of American troops in Iraq."
The NCCM and its media cheering-section like The Toronto Star are trotting out supporters for the Muslim group including virtually unknown organizations like The Canadian Association of Jews and Muslims (CAJM). The idea of friendship between religious groups is as laudable as the idea that Jews and Muslims in Canada should be divided over government foreign policy is tragic. However there is a certain type of ostrich-like idiocy that certain self-described progressives will engage in so that they can deny some harsh realities, and CAJM's co-chair Barbara Landau is part of that sad strain.
In 2012, Landau was a judge at the North American Muslim Foundation's speech competition on the topic of "anti-Semitism and Islamophobia." One observer, Sarah Margles, a member of a "progressive" synagogue that participated as observers of the contest, reported on a blog post that she has since deleted (but was recorded by the blog Sassy Wire):
In certain quarters of Islamist communities, anti-Semitism is so ingrained that even when professing to oppose it, they invoke anti-Semitc canards. The response of people who have been programmed to think they are "progressive" is to negate of deny that any group that claims to be "oppressed" can commit a wrong. Instead, like bizarre groups like "Queers Against Israeli Apartheid" which makes common cause with Islamists who would happily see them stoned to death because of their sexual orientation, "progressive" Jews frequently serve as enablers to extremists who have cheered on those who would commit a genocide against Jews in Israel.
Canadians who detest Stephen Harper, both in politics and the media, who boast about being "progressive" will leap upon any excuse to demonize the Prime Minister and his government. Many, without knowing any of the details of the NCCM's background, have instinctively sided with the Muslim group in hope the matter will embarrass Stephen Harper. What is more likely is that people siding with NCCM will embarrass themselves.
In March, the NCCM is having a $200-a-seat fundraiser featuring the American-Iranian writer Reza Aslan. Only a few days ago, Aslan insinuated the beautiful Hollywood movie star Scarlett Johansson was the equivalent of a Nazi supporter for being the spokesperson for the Israeli soft drink maker SodaStream.
Anyone who thinks that aligning themselves with a the local branch of a co-conspirator in Hamas terror-funding and people who promote extremist, bigoted hate and invective could find that the backfire taints them for a very long time.

In the affidavit Khan, (former CSIS Straegic Planning Head David) Harris testified, “states categorically that CAIR-CAN is under the direction and control of the American CAIR organization.” Moreover, Khan, while a senior official of CAIR-CAN, also served on the board of CAIR.Furthermore, one of CAIR-CAN's long-serving Board members was the notorious Jamal Badawi, who as of today is still listed as a Board member on the CAIR-CAN website. An Egyptian-born Muslim cleric and former professor at St. Mary's University in Halifax, Badawi was listed on The Muslim Brotherhood's shura council in a document entered as evidence in the Holy Land Terror Trial. Badawi has endorsed suicide bombings and according to investigative journalist Patrick Poole, "was a featured speaker at a conference in Qatar honoring Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi, where Badawi shared the speaker’s podium with Khaled Mishaal, the head of Hamas and a designated terrorist by both the U.S. and Canada."

The most egregious speech quoted the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as if it were true. Many talked about Jewish money and power."Despite two attempts to reach her for comment following exposure of the incident, Landau would not respond to discuss the matter with me.

Local `moderate` Muslim group supports genocide of Christians in Sudan
``Muslims should support worldwide Jihad... It should stand by Sudan against the treacherous Christian racist rebellion that wants to impose its racist fanaticism on all the territories of Sudan to remove it from the Muslim Nation and the Arab World.``
Blazing Cat Fur has more details
And remember, no one must publicly criticize the Darfur genocide committed by the Islamic government of Sudan, because, as a former Canadian Union of Public Employees Vice President warns, it would make Arabs look bad.

Canadian Muslim group with reprehensible links issues libel notice to Prime Minister Harper
According to the CTV website, The National Council of Canadian Muslims "is demanding an apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his chief spokesman for a comment it says links the organization to a terrorist group. The National Council of Canadian Muslims has filed a notice of libel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice that accuses Jason MacDonald of acting maliciously.."
Following complaints from the Muslim group about the inclusion of a rabbi who participated in an event with anti-Jihadist activists Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer with the Prime Minister's delegation to Israel, PMO spokesman Jason MacDonald stated, "We will not take seriously criticism from an organization with documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas."
Until
last July, NCCM was known as CAIR-CAN, and was the Canadian branch of
the US-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR was listed in court documents as an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Terror-financing trial. As the Investigative Project on Terrorism reported, Assistant US Attorney General Ronald Welch concluded that trial transcripts "demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders, and
the Palestine Committee. Evidence was also introduced that demonstrated a relationship between the Palestine Committee and HAMAS, which was designated as a terrorist organization in 1995."
The Quebec-based blog Point de Bascule has documented members of CAIR-CAN's leaderhip endorsing extremist Muslim groups including the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the parent organization from which the terror group Hamas sprang. That blog also noted:

In 2002, while she was CAIR-CAN Chair, Sheema Khan endorsed Youssef Qaradawi by introducing him as a “renowned Muslim scholar” to her Globe and Mail readers. Youssef Qaradawi is the most important leader of the Muslim Brotherhood international network, its spiritual leader. He is also considered Hamas’ spiritual guide. In the past, his fatwas have been quoted by Hamas to justify its suicide operations against civilians at the heart of Israel.
The 'renowned Muslim scholar' to whom the then CAIR-CAN Chair referred is a anti-Semitic fanatic who has said that Allah used Hitler as a "divine punishment" for the Jews and has claimed Jews exaggerated the Holocaust.
Lawfare is a tactic that Muslims groups in Canada are attempting to use to silence criticism and exposure of their activities. But they are having limited success. Only last month, a Federal Court upheld a decision by Canada's Citizenship Minister Jason Kenney to cease federal funding for the Canadian Arab Federation. The judge agreed with Kenney's view that the Arab organization appeared to be anti-Semitic and to support terror groups, and ordered them to pay the Minister's court costs.
By taking on the Prime Minister's office, the National Council of Canadian Muslims may find that the rather than being vindicated, they end up highlighting their own reprehensible associations.

The most successful musician you've probably never heard of
Pop quiz: Who has been the most influential and powerful person in pop music over the last 20 years?
Britney Spears? Madonna? Michael Jackson? Beyonce? Simon Cowell? Sure, these people have all been extraordinarily successful, but what if we told you that there's one man whose musical accomplishments easily trumps all of these artists? And what if we told you that most people have probably never even heard of this person and definitely wouldn't recognize him walking down the street? Sounds impossible right? Well, if at any point in the last 20 years you've heard a song from The Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N'Sync, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Ace of Base, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Bon Jovi, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Pink, Justin Bieber… then you've unwittingly been subject to the creations of a Swedish born musical genius who goes by the name of Max Martin. Believe it or not, over the past 15-20 years Max Martin has been the brains, ears and talent behind virtually every hit pop song that has been released to the screaming masses. He's personally responsible for churning out more Billboard singles than Michael Jackson and Madonna COMBINED.
Stephen Harper has driven the anti-Semitic, NDP-linked website rabble.ca apoplectic
It seems that Stephen Harper's speech to the Israeli legislature was so forceful, and so infuriating to the anti-Israel far-left that its effects included giving writers like Gerry Caplan an aneurysm, resulting in serious cognitive impairment. Either that, or Caplan was intentionally dishonest, or just plain stupid in a column published by rabble.ca claiming "Stephen Harper contended that Israeli policies should not be criticized, especially in public.... As Mr. Harper put it, criticism of Israeli policies is "the new anti-Semitism..."
Except that Harper not only didn't characterize all criticism of Israel as being anti-Semitic, but exclusively refuted that assertion. What Harper said was, "Of course, criticism of Israeli government policy is not in and of itself necessarily anti-Semitic. But what else can we call criticism that selectively condemns only the Jewish state and effectively denies its right to defend itself while systematically ignoring – or excusing – the violence and oppression all around it?"
Which is very different indeed from the deceitful charges made by Gerry Caplan. But it's necessary for Caplan to lie in order to try to lay claim to the same territory that Harper himself explicitly covered in his speech, that not all criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic. Harper never suggested it was, but what he did describe as anti-Semitic is the unfair, dishonest, disproportionate and obsessive criticism of Israel of the sort in which rabble.ca routinely engages. In another rabble column published the same day, some very twisted efforts at logic attempting to remake some of Caplan's assertions are endeavored by Murray Dobbin. Dobbin is a board member of the NDP-linked think-tank Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, which is one of rabble's main funders, and the bizarre claim he tries to make is that Canada's strong support for Israel hurts Israel.
Rather more sinisterly, Dobbin suggests the repulsive, anti-Semitic trope that Jews are themselves responsible for anti-Semitism by supporting Israel when he wrote. "by encouraging the most right-wing, intransigent government in Israel's history, Harper helps ensure a powerful global movement opposed to Israel -- and that opposition inadvertently provides comfort to anti-Semites."
So according to rabble, if Harper supports Israel, or, it would follow to reason also that if Jews support it, they are really just encouraging the hatred they incur.
What must really has rabble riled is that they will be called out for the anti-Semitic garbage they promote, in its support for "Israel Apartheid Week", and anti-Semitic boycotts of Israel. Or sometimes rabble makes very little effort to mask its more blatant bias against Jews, as in an article last week by its Ottawa correspondent Karl Nerenberg, who essentially suggested that Canadian Jews' primary loyalty is to Israel and that the Harper government is cynically exploiting that sentiment.
Of course rabble will protest that they aren't anti-Semitic and that some of their 'best friends,' including some of its correspondents and its founder Judy Rebick are Jewish. But it's only a particular type of Jew for whom rabble has any affinity. That would be the type that passes the litmus test of sharing their fanatical bias against the Jewish state, just as the Nazis were comparatively benevolent to Jews who assisted them in controlling the Jews they marked for extermination.
Speaking of marking Jews for extermination, rabble's writers took issue with Stephen Harper refusing to single out Israel for criticism. Just a week before his trip to Israel, the Prime Minister of Gaza's government, Ismail Haniya, threatened the lives of Israelis and called on young Palestinians to partake in jihad and "to love death for the sake of Allah as much as our enemies love life." Haniya then praised and extolled young Palestinians to emulate a woman named Reem al-Riyashi.
For those not familiar with the name, Reem al-Riyashi was a female Palestinian suicide bomber. A repulsive sociopath, al-Riyashi left her two young children and embarked on a mission to blow herself up at the Erez border crossing. Declaring in her 'farewell video' that she hoped "the shredded limbs of my body would be shrapnel tearing the Zionists to pieces" so she could be "knocking on heaven's door with the skulls of Zionists."
al-Riyashi murdered four Israeli personnel and injured 10 more when she blasted herself to smithereens. Hamas then ghoulishly paraded al-Riayshi's children on its notorious kids' TV show Pioneers of Tomorrow, where the smiling youngsters were told what a great accomplishment their mother had achieved. Hamas also put out a music video where children are encouraged to follow in al-Riyashi's footsteps.
Yet for the bigots at rabble.ca, which is published by the spouse of NDP Deputy Leader Libby Davies, it is Israel and only Israel that is the impediment to peace. And if rabble is to be taken seriously, anyone who denies that is just encouraging more Jew-hate.
Except that Harper not only didn't characterize all criticism of Israel as being anti-Semitic, but exclusively refuted that assertion. What Harper said was, "Of course, criticism of Israeli government policy is not in and of itself necessarily anti-Semitic. Someone summarized Barack Obama in three words - "educated", "smart" and "ignorant." Unfortunately, those same three words describe all too many of the people who come out of our most prestigious colleges and universities today.
President Obama seems completely unaware of how many of the policies he is trying to impose have been tried before and have failed time and again.
Economic equality? That was tried in the 19th century, in communities set up by Robert Owen, the man who coined the term "socialism." Those communities all collapsed.

How would Toronto's media react to THIS Rob Ford scenario?
The frustration is unspeakable!
The antics of Rob Ford are so infuriatingly embarrassing that they taint every single citizen of Toronto with a cloud of shame. At least that is the inescapable impression one gets from reading The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Now Magazine and a variety of other self-obsessed media orifices is the world's most world-classiest city.
If the media is any reflection of popular will, Ford has made being a Torontonian in 2014 so overwhelmingly humiliating, it is mind-boggling that Ontario's entire capitol city hasn't filled up an armada of U-Hauls and embarked on a mass exodus to more progressive pastures, such as in the enlightened Pacific metropolis of Vancouver.
Still, Ford seems to enjoy unassailable popularity with a subhuman class of citizen known by the sobriquet Ford Nation. But the cultivated people who comprise the rest of the city understand the damage caused by the daily assault on the self-esteem of the thinking Torontonian as a result of being vicariously associated with Rob Ford.
Toronto's media nabobs have assumed a near-unified voice that was best expressed by an outraged protester at a City Hall demonstration, her pain reflected in her sour, prune-faced declaration:
Ford has used cocaine, he has been drunk in public, and yet his support remains rock-solid. But what if Ford was to do something far worse than any of these past transgressions?
What if Ford were to be involved in the type of scandal where he was caught in a brothel, perhaps of the type that exploited poor, immigrant women, turning them into virtual sex slaves?
Imagine Rob Ford being caught by police naked in such a place. Then, with a prostitute leaving his rented cubicle holding a kleenex freshly damp from Ford's venereal excretion, he lied to a police officer and claimed he was just getting a "shiatsu."
Then imagine if higher-ups in the police department colluded to keep the matter a secret.
Of course, though we're used to Ford lying, what an insult to the intelligence of every one of his constituents it would be, if when caught, he tried to excuse himself with the laughably implausible claim that he mistook a place that any teenager would recognize as a hand-job parlor for a "community clinic."
Surely then, all of Canada's media would be clamoring for Ford's head and the public along with them?
Let's take this scenario another step. What if this denizen of sleazy, disease-ridden bordellos were to contract a "mystery illness" which he and his family refused to disclose? Were Rob Ford to tragically die from a malady of that nature, there would be no end to the media speculation of the nature of the illness, how he came by it, and why it was being kept a secret.
Or take it just one more unlikely step further. What if Rob Ford's wife, who has no real noteworthy political accomplishment to her name, and who is a dismal public speaker with no real achievement in life other than being the wife of a famous person, was then practically dragooned into running for mayor?
No doubt the media would be united in reviling such a candidacy, wouldn't they?
Naturally, this is all just fantasizing. Nothing so far-fetched could happen in real life, could it?

The Socialists' Big Lie about "Income Inequity"
Two-bit polemicists like Linda McQuaig and Chris Hedges want you to believe that because there are more rich people, it's making poor people poorer and the government should inflict more taxes on you. Of course the middle class will get the hardest in those tax hikes.
We live in a society where "poor" people have smart phones, high sped internet, big, flat screen TVs and the big problem they are facing is childhood obesity.
Obviously we need socialists to redistribute more wealth to 'solve' these problems...

Fareed Zakaria: "Iran Deal is a Train Wreck"
"For the first time you have the president of Iran unequivocally saying there will be no destruction of centrifuges. He also made clear in the interview with me that the two heavy water reactors would continue in operation. So this seems like — you know, this is stillborn — I’m not even quite sure what they’re going to talk about if these are the opening positions. And it’s very hard to walk back from as absolutist a position as the president of Iran laid out."

International Court Opens Trial Against Hezbollah Operatives
Hezbollah military Commander Mustafa Badreddine |
Last week, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon trial against four suspects accused of assassinating former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 22 others opened in The Hague, despite the fact that none of the accused—four members of Hezbollah, including Mustafa Badreddine, cousin of Hezbollah’s late military commander Imad Mughniyeh—is currently in custody.Instead, the courtroom was filled with the prosecution team, lawyers for the defense, and lawyers for the victims, as well as a scale model of the Beirut waterfront where Hariri was assassinated Feb. 14, 2005. In its opening remarks, the prosecution presented pictures of the devastation caused by the bomb—fires, a large crater, buildings in ruins, blood and body parts everywhere.
