‘Exceedingly political’ libel case pits free speech advocate Ezra Levant against ‘master of lawfare’

Getting to trial is rarely a speedy business in Canada’s courts, but a libel case that starts Tuesday in Toronto is exceptional for how much has changed since it was launched nearly five years ago, in the heat of Canada’s first online culture war.

Pitting a Regina lawyer against a nationally known television personality who describes himself as “one of Canada’s premier advocates of free expression,” Khurrum Awan v. Ezra Levant is one of several defamation suits that arose from the fight over hate speech bans in human rights law.

UPDATE (3:55 pm): The judge was sick so the opening day of the trial has been postponed.

John Bolton: We cannot verify and must not trust Iran's promises on nuclear weapons

Tuesday's opening of yet another round of negotiations with Iran over its nuclear-weapons program creates enormous risks for America's anti-proliferation efforts. Tehran's extensive propaganda campaign, stressing the "moderation" of its new president, Hassan Rouhani, seems to be working, softening up the gullible in the United States and Europe.

As in previous iterations of the charade now reopening in Geneva, Iran's bargaining position benefits from our own repeated mistakes. The ayatollahs need only take advantage of these unforced errors, and success may well fall into their undeserving hands. Consider the most blatant errors that Iran is eager to exploit.

First, both Presidents Bush and Obama conceded that Iran was entitled to a "peaceful" nuclear program, for energy and scientific purposes. Under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), however, that view is flatly wrong. By pursuing nuclear weapons for over two decades, Iran has violated key NPT provisions – notably, the obligation it freely undertook to be a non-nuclear weapons state. Tehran is not, therefore, entitled to claim benefits under NPT sections permitting peaceful uses of nuclear power.

In which my buddy Mitch Wolfe finds out way too much about his yoga classmates

My buddy Mitch Wolfe has, for reasons I can only surmise, decided to take a yoga class in Toronto's downtown Annex neighborhood. It seems he's learning things other than how to twist himself into awkward positions for no discernible purpose:

...We had no sooner finished chanting our introductory "OMs" when Ms. Salamander launched into a blow by blow account of her random hook-up with this guy she picked up in some Ossington Avenue dive bar.

Ms. Pork Tacos countered with the horrifying tale that when she and her new dude were getting down and busy, the dude noticed that when he went "downtown," he discovered that Ms. Pork Tacos hadn't trimmed "her garden" since Obama was first elected.
I must confess that I did sneak a peak at Ms. Tacos, to my right.

Note to the good folks, at Lululemon: Your yoga pants, when really moist, are still see-through.

It was clear that Ms. Tacos "garden" was more like a very dense and lush Amazonian Rainforest. I'm surprised Ms. Tacos' dude found his way back to civilization...

Holy Jurassic Park, Batman! Prehistoric blood-filled mosquito fossil found!

Jurassic Park’s iconic image of a fossilized blood-filled mosquito was thought to be fiction — until now. For the first time, researchers have identified a fossil of a female mosquito with traces of blood in its engorged abdomen.

The UN's pathetic appeasement of fascist Iran starts with a symbolic low

Before...
A RELIEF carving of a naked man at the UN's Geneva headquarters has been covered up, apparently to spare the blushes of Iranian diplomats ahead of fresh talks on the country's nuclear drive.

UN officials would not comment on why the wall relief, inspired by Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam", had been masked by a large white screen, referring questions to the Swiss authorities.

But Swiss newspaper Tribune de Geneve claimed that the aim was to avoid offending the Islamic republic's delegation for the talks taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Selling a fake Canadian "genocide" for fun and profit

There have been far too many efforts at genocide in the last century. Some, like that of the Armenians by the Turks, are still denied by its perpetrators, and some, like that of the Sudanese Arabs against blacks, is ongoing. There are some that today openly aspire to commit genocide but lack the means, as the one Iran and its proxies Hezbollah and Hamas would like to inflict on Jews.

But those aren't the genocides that former bigshots, ex-Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine and the defunct Canadian Jewish Congress' old boss Bernie Farber have chosen to decry. Instead they are trying to sell the notion of a fake "genocide" against Canada's Native population in Canada's "national newspaper" and their motives may not be entirely altruistic.

There are nuances that even a generally true statement, such as that Canada's First Nations have received very poor treatment in the past, need to take into account. For one thing, Canada's First Nations are just that, nations, a plural. While Canada's Indian Act applies to them all, in reality, different aboriginal tribes have negotiated and received different treatment from the government. But in absolutely no case, from the foundation of Canada in 1867, could that treatment, in any instance, be described as genocide, which is a deliberate policy of killing an entire racial or ethnic group.

It should also be noted that many of Canada's aboriginal nations waged war on each other, committing mass-murders and driving one another off land in what in contemporary terms would be described at a minimum as "ethnic cleansing."

Canada's historical policies towards First Nations may have been unfair, patronizing and colonial, but to call them genocidal is quite simply a lie.

To really understand Canada's historical policies toward First Nations, we need to look at them in the context of their time and not, as Farber and Fontaine do, through a distorted, telescopic rear-view mirror imposing the values of 2013 on the Nineteenth Century.

Canada compared to the United States, or for that matter compared to government treatment of aboriginals in any part of the New World or under any ex-colonial power, was extremely benevolent. Without question, our 18th Century policies considered Native culture to be lesser to that of the Europeans. But to put the times in context, slavery had only been abolished in the United States four years before Canadian Confederation and there was no country in the world then in which women were entitled to vote.

For Native Americans at that time, Canada was not a genocidal slaughterhouse, but a refuge. After the massacre of Custer's troops at Little Big Horn, it was to Canada that Sitting Bull and a band of his followers came to find sanctuary. Today, in the Royal Ontario Museum, rests a headdress that Sitting Bull gave to Canada's Northwest Mounted Police as a gesture of gratitude for the safety for his people that this nation provided.

For anyone examining all the actual genocides in history, it is clear that the method and purpose was to first segregate, then to annihilate the intended target. Racist laws in countries that had genocidal policies, such as Nazi Germany's Nuremberg Laws, were enacted to prevent, not promote integration. There is no instance, ever, that the purpose of a genocide was to integrate one group with another.   Yet, while it may offend contemporary cultural sensitivities, integration was the clearly stated intention of Canada's policies towards First Nations which Farber and Fontaine preposterously characterize as a "genocide."

Yes, there were abuses committed in Residential Schools many decades ago, for which Prime Minister Harper has apologized. But the worst of the abuses were perpetrated by corrupt individuals and were not part of any government policy.

The authors The Globe chose to promote, Farber and Fontaine, make a curious pair of "genocide" hucksters who may have driving motives other than their own particular concept of "social justice." Fontaine is a former National Chief who obviously craves the limelight, as does Farber. Beyond that, Farber now makes his living working for a company that needs to convince First Nations groups to let them build energy facilities on their land. Whether or not he believes that Canada committed a genocide, being seen as an extremist in their corner can't be bad for business.

However, that extremism comes at the cost of credibility. They are completely wrong in their inflammatory accusations and preposterous, ahistorical inventions such as that Sir John A. McDonald's policies towards aboriginals were genocidal attempts at mass murder.

And this says nothing of the facts about the current situation of First Nations in Canada. It would be a very curious form of genocide indeed that has resulted in First Nations being the fastest growing population in Canada. Last time I checked, that would make it the exact opposite of a genocide. Of course, this would not be the first time a group claimed a fake genocide, as their numbers are vastly increasing, solely for political aims.

But while what Fontaine and Farber have written in The Globe is a load of ridiculous, politicized nonsense, I don't want to give the impression that I don't think they aren't also sincere in their beliefs. After all, to borrow from and paraphrase H.L. Mencken, no one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of Bernie Farber.

Iran arrests 'network of homosexuals and satanists' at birthday party

Iran’s revolutionary guards have announced the arrest of “a network of homosexuals and satanists”in the western city of Kermanshah, close to the country’s border with Iraq, prompting fresh alarm over the treatment of gay people in the Islamic republic.

The news website of the revolutionary guards in Kermanshah province, home to the country’s Kurd ethnic minority, reported on Thursday that their elite forces had dismantled what it claimed to be a network of homosexuals and devil-worshippers.

No word from Canada's dimwitted celebrity activist couple if they plan to make a pilgrimage to Iran to protest this violation of human decency.

Socialist Studies Forces The Student School To Kill Its Facebook Page after exposing its political fanaticism and links to Holocaust-denying website

The hateful so-called "Social Justice" campaign at the alternative "The Student School" has been yet another episode in a long list of recent idiotic blunders coming from Toronto District School Board.

The Holocaust-denying website Veterans Today was one of many odious sources that got approbation from The Student School, as well as one of it's teachers "liking" a comment that called Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper a "fascist."

It was the blog Socialist Studies which first noted the disgraceful activities at this publicly funded school. Socialist Studies has diligently investigated and continues to report a series of abuses of public trust by Ontario's School Boards and Teachers' Unions.

As a result, The Student School has killed its facebook page.

In a way that's a result. But I fear the same reprehensible activities will continue there, only now The Student School will be more secretive about them.

Water Rich Rocky Planetary Body Found Orbiting a White Dwarf

Scientists at the Universities of Warwick and Cambridge have discovered large amount of water in the debris of an exoplanet that is surrounding a white dwarf star called GD61. This finding suggests  the existence of earth-like habitable bodies.

The observation was made using the Hubble Space Telescope and the Keck telescope in Hawaii.  This new discovery claims that the star GD 61 and its planetary system that is located 150 light years away, once had the potential to hold Earth like exoplanets.

This is the first time that the astronomers have discovered two major elements essential for habitation i.e. 'water' and 'rocky surface', beyond our solar system.

Thomas Sowell - Barbarians at the Campus Gates: Why colleges cave to the demands of student activists

An all-too-familiar scene was enacted on the campus of Swarthmore College during a meeting on May 4 to discuss demands by student activists for the college to divest itself of its investments in companies that deal in fossil fuels. As a speaker was beginning a presentation to show how many millions of dollars such a disinvestment would cost the college, student activists invaded the meeting, seized the microphone, and shouted down a student who rose in the audience to object.

Although there were professors and administrators in the room — including the college president — apparently nobody had the guts to put a stop to these storm-trooper tactics. Nor is it likely that there will be any punishment of those who put their own desires above the rights of others. On the contrary, these students went on to demand mandatory campus “teach-ins,” and the administration caved on that demand. Among their other demands are that courses on ethnic studies, and on gender and sexuality, be made a requirement for graduation.

Just what is it that academics have to fear if they stand up for common decency, instead of letting campus barbarians run amok?

Toronto: Muslim Brotherhood Installs Massive Model Of Dome Of The Rock In Downtown City-Owned Community Centre

....Why is a model of the Dome of the Rock on display at a city venue? Well the Scadding Court events calendar informs us that Muslim Association of Canada and their branch office the Masjid Toronto are hosting an Eid Al-Adha Community Lunch on October 20. The liberation of Jerusalem's Temple Mount which contains both the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque is central to the Muslim Brotherhood's goal of Israel's destruction. The Muslim Association of Canada is a Muslim Brotherhood Front Group and makes no bones about its allegiance.

Calling "bullshit" on the CBC's lies and activist journalism in support of Loubani & Greyson

Have you ever heard a tale from a pathological liar that is so mind-numbingly stupid you wondered why they even bothered to tell it?

You know, one of those lies that is so obviously, demonstrably untrue that by telling it to you, they either have complete contempt for your intelligence or are such idiots that they don't realize that their attempt at deception is completely transparent.

That's what I heard yesterday night from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation about their rationale for concealing the fanatical activist and lawbreaking history of the two Canadians, Tarek Loubani and John Greyson, who had been imprisoned in Egypt since August.

In his report yesterday about the return of the two Muslim Brotherhood-enabling radicals to Canada, CBC reporter Ron Charles treated viewers to this little gem:
`While the men were in jail, great care was taken back home not to reveal too much about them for their safety. Few people mentioned that Greyson is a prominent Gay filmmaker, pro-Palestinian activist and member of a controversial group called Queers Against Israeli Apartheid. He was to have been part of a failed flotilla of boats carrying activists in 2011 intending to breech Israel`s blockade of Gaza.``
Think for a moment how incredibly facile that CBC assertion sounds.

Greyson is an openly Gay York University professor who has gobbled up vast sums from the Canada Council and other tax-funded bodies to make his homoerotic pseudo-artistic trash. He even has a long-standing Wikipedia entry that highlights his so-called "filmmaking" career as well as his radical anti-Israel activism.

Tarek Loubani has a history of lawbreaking and involvement with the terror-supporting group International Solidarity Movement that is easily accessible on the Internet.

Greyson has a long history of Hamas-enabling fanaticism
Beyond that, bloggers and Sun News were reporting on the truth about Greyson and Loubani`s background from Day 1 of their arrest.

So for the CBC`s explanation for why they covered up Greyson and Loubani`s background to be plausible, it would mean that Egyptian prosecutors were incapable of typing the two men`s names into a Google search.

What then is the real reason media like the CBC and the Toronto Star hid the background of Greyson and Loubani, not from Egyptians, but from their fellow Canadians who get their news from those sources?

The answer is obvious. The left-wing media are sympathetic to Greyson and Loubani. The CBC and the Star, for the last two months, have been manipulating Canadians into thinking the duo were "innocents" caught "in the wrong place at the wrong time" to contrive pressure on our, not the Egyptian government, to act on their behalf.

Greyson in particular is part of a narrow clique of Canada Council darlings including overrated Canadian media personalities Atom Egoyan and Sarah Polley. The CBC and Star were more than happy to manipulate the news and hide facts from the public to keep their friends happy and agitate for the public to pressure the government to act on behalf of two fanatics.

Don't get me wrong, I too thought the government should have advocated for them to receive just treatment in Egypt and even made an appeal for them (sarcastic as it may have been).

But I knew who John Greyson and Tarek Loubami really were.

We now know that Greyson and Loubani's story is just that, a story, and it's full of holes.

Why were they breaking curfew to attend a banned Muslim Brotherhood rally that turned into a violent riot?

Why were they carrying surveillance equipment, including mini-drones, and offering the implausible excuse that it was for the transport of medical supplies?

Whereas the CBC and The Toronto Star didn't want anyone to find that out.

This goes to show that what we see from the CBC is not fair, objective, unbiased journalism, but activism pretending to be reporting.

Now that Margaret Wente at the Globe and Mail has finally broken ranks and gave a more detailed account of the duo's past, and enough Canadians have seen reports from Sun Media and elsewhere, people are getting the idea of what was going on and there is a backlash.

It would be nice if that backlash was strong enough to get the CBC to actually do its job properly, or as an impetus for it to be sold to someone who could see that it does.

Why is it that only Sun News is pointing out David Suzuki's important conflicts of interest?

It took Ezra Levant's aggressive journalistic approach to get a Superior Court Judge to remove herself from a mock trail, in which she would be dealing with issues that might have come before her in court.

"The Trial of David Suzuki" is a theatrical exercise in anti-fossil-fuel activism.

But David Suzuki's hypocrisy, proliferation of falsehood and ignorance of fact about matters on which he pontificates has only been challenged in the media by Sun News.

The role of a journalist is not just to report, but to ask tough questions.

When the answer to those questions is to turn tail and run, as David Suzuki did earlier this week, that is more revealing than a full-page spread.

The Loubani/Greyson return story is in the comments

Check out the comments on the return of John Greyson and Tarek Loubani to Canada tonight.

Average Canadians are busting up the consensus media's love-fest for the fanatical pair of Hamas' useful idiots.

Even the heavily moderated comments at al Starzeera are a surprise

UPDATE: In a televised report, even the CBC is asking questions the rest of us were asking (and answering)  a long time ago.

One bizarre assertion of the CBC is that Greyson & Loubani's background was concealed by the Canadian media because it might endanger them

What a crock of shit.

Is the CBC so arrogant that they think Egyptian prosecutors aren't capable of doing a Google search like bloggers and Sun Media did to report on their background?

The background of Greyson and Loubani was concealed by their buddies in the mainstream media to manipulate Canadians into supporting the undeserving duo.

Plus: The National Post did a roundup of letters to the editor about the pair. It seems National Post readers weren't too impressed with their antics.

CBC acts as press agents for Hamas-enablers Loubani and Greyson

Both people in this story are idiots

A stupid, masochistic, insecure, manipulative, shallow lefty woman recounts her relationship with a manipulative, lying, vicious leftist scumbag male.

Both are typical of the political class in which they were ensconced and it sounds like they deserved each other.

More on those burdens on the Canadian taxpayer, John Greyson and Tarek Loubani

Yesterday, Michael Coren and I discussed those two exploiters of the Canadian taxpayer, John Greyson and Tarek Loubani.

There are a few post-scripts to the interview.

As we noted in the interview, the Globe and Mail's columnist Margaret Wente wrote an article a few days ago, one of very few outside Sun News,  that provided factual background information on Greyson and Loubani and was harshly critical of the duo.

She concluded her column with:
In this case, the government – one that Mr. Greyson and Mr. Loubani viscerally despise – applied the heat at the highest level. Foreign Minister John Baird even met with his Egyptian counterpart. These two should kiss Mr. Baird’s feet. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.
As it turns out, Wente was completely correct. Yesterday, Greyson and Loubani released a nauseating video in which they thanked their supporters, but did not offer a single word of thanks to the Canadian government, or the rest of us who have now paid exorbitant costs to exculpate them from the consequences of their narcissistic conflict tourism.

Also, during the conversation, Michael made the significant point that Islamic news service al Jazeera, will expunge parts of the background of western useful idiots who invest immeasurable amounts of time into vilifying Israel, to make them more palatable to their religious Muslim audience. The example he used was the notorious Jenny Peto, in the case of whom, her openly "queer" background never came up.

The fact that Peto is one of Greyson and Loubani's most ardent supporters, and that she shares their beliefs is significant.

At a sparsely attended rally at Ryerson University earlier this week that drew more media than spectators, Peto was one of the people tied in with the organizers, including Greyson's sister Cecilia and Ryerson "Social Justice" professor Winnie Ng. It was unusual for Peto to be front and center at such an event recently. Prior to late 2010, she was at the forefront of Canada's anti-Israel fanaticism, but the exposure of an anti-Semitic thesis she wrote for the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education made her an embarrassment to them.

The thesis, which was both facile and laughably absent of actual research even brought the academic standards University of Toronto into disrepute. Essentially, her thesis, which paralleled the sort of writing one can find from neo-Nazi authors, asserted that Jews are privileged racists who use the Holocaust to perpetuate the myth of their own victimhood while advancing the cause of an "oppressive" Zionist Jewish state.

The anti-Semitism of her thesis was condemned by, among others, Ontario Liberal Cabinet Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins, who is not a right-wing reactionary by anyone's standards.

Jenny Peto's new look at the "John and Tarek" rally
has a strange familiarity
Michael referred to the "Freudian subtext" of Peto, a Jewish, atheist, anti-Israel fanatic who authored an anti-Semitic essay and coincidentally, three years ago, I wrote a piece about that titled, "You don't have to be Sigmund Freud to connect these dots."

There is an even wider Freudian subtext to people like Greyson and Peto, untalented Gays who have dedicated themselves to the demonization of the only country that respects Gay rights and minority religious rights in the middle east. The lies they tell about Israel reveals nothing about Zionism or the Jewish state, but it reveals a great deal about their own unresolved personal issues.
