Toronto Mayor's Office orders City Staff to monitor Khomeinist dinner

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has instructed city staff to monitor a Khomeinist al Quds Day anti-Israel dinner and seminar taking place tonight at the municipally owned Scarborough Centennial Centre.

The event is being held by the Canadian Shia Muslim Organization (CASMO), a group notorious for posting anti-Semitic videos by a Ku Klux Klan leader on its website, and having held a hate rally at Queen's Park last year in which speakers engaged in racist and Jihadist invective.

The Mayor's office expressed disappointment that the al Quds would be proceeding, but the City's Facilities Manager and the City of Toronto's Deputy Manager decided the event did not breech civic policies. Al Quds Day is an invention of Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini intended to rally Muslims to the cause of the destruction of Israel. Al Quds Day gatherings frequently feature anti-Semitic and violent rhetoric.

Toronto Ward 10 Councillor James Pasternak said he is "astounded that City re-booked facilities to this group after all we went through last year." He added "this group clearly does not meet the threshold for respect or tolerance we expect of those using City property."

Mayor Ford's office expressed its serious concerns about the Iranian-linked group's use of municipal property and insisted the event be closely watched by City staff to ensure compliance with civic regulations regarding Hate Speech.

Councillor Pasternak expressed the hope that City staff would ensure the usual "demonization and hate" that are routine at al Quds Day assemblies does not take place on grounds that are the responsibility of the City of Toronto.

UPDATE:  A well-placed source at City Hall believes that the Manager of the City's Office of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights must have been consulted by the Managers who decided to allow the seminar and dinner to proceed. That office is headed by Pakistani immigrant Uzma Shakir, who has written that Muslim immigrants do not owe their full loyalty to Canada because of the Canadian government's favoritism towards Israel.

Website of NDP Deputy Leader's spouse promotes anti-Semitic hate rally

She isn't charismatic and is far from being a leading intellectual light in a political organization not particularly known for its sagacity. But Libby Davies is the darling of the assiduous activist wing of the New Democratic Party. To mollify that essential bloc, as a matter of expediency, newly elected party leader Thomas Mulcair had to retain her as NDP Deputy Leader.

Unfortunately for Mulcair, heavy, squalid baggage comes along with his Deputy Leader, doing more damage to the NDP's reputation with the general public than the benefit derived from energizing the far left of his leftist political party.

As responsible political leaders across Ontario are speaking out against a hate rally scheduled to take place this Saturday, the spouse of the Deputy Leader of the National NDP is promoting it.

Davies' same-sex spouse Kim Elliott is the publisher of the fanatically anti-Israel website rabble.ca, which has prided itself on being the media sponsor of the anti-Semitic hate fest its organizers call  "Israeli Apartheid Week."  Davies frequently appears at rabble-supported events and now her wife's website is promoting an anti-Semitic al Quds rally in Toronto. While rabble euphemistically calls it a "Stand up for Palestine Rally" the notorious event they are promoting is actually a call for the destruction of Israel by followers of Iran's late Ayatollah Khomeini and regularly features speakers espousing anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

A huge problem for the NDP

Davies being a huge problem for the NDP seems to happen with some regularity.

She has introduced crackpot conspiracy theories in Parliament in which she repeated accusations of the US government being complicit in the 9-11 Muslim terror attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Equally embarrassing to her party, Davies is obsessively fixated with demonizing Israel, despite being remarkably ignorant of the history and issues affecting the Israeli-Arab and Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

When the NDP had both the Conservatives and Liberals on the ropes over the release of documents related to the torture of Afghan prisoners at times when both those parties had been in power, Davies single-handedly managed to derail her party's advantage with her prejudices. Appearing at a virulently anti-Israel rally, she gave an impromptu interview on video in which she expressed support for a total boycott of Israel while adding statements suggesting the Jewish state had no legitimacy.

The Liberals and Conservatives pounced on this opportunity, putting the NDP on the defensive and it was about Davies' shocking utterances rather than the Afghan issue that the 2010 summer session of Parliament closed. Davies was even reprimanded by senior members of her own caucus, including then co-Deputy Leader Mulcair.

The National Post reported at the time:

Mr. Mulcair said that Ms. Davies.. should also apologize and retract her comments supporting a boycott. He said it is particularly “egregious” since she is a deputy leader of the party.“As much as it’s difficult, if any individual member of Parliament goes off-script on any issue of policy that is well-defined by the party, it would be a problem,” said Mr. Mulcair. “But that problem is of course compounded in the case of someone who putatively, with the title that she holds, would give more weight to these views that are not the views of the party.”

Like an addict who needs a fix, despite al the damage she had done to her own party and her collegues' warnings, Davies could not help herself and returned to the issue. She could not restrain herself from  boasting about attending an anti-Israel rally in Paris featuring a French politician who had been prosecuted for anti-Semitism.

The days of Libby Davies humiliating the New Democrats are far from over. How long Thomas Mulcair lets her do it from one of the party's top positions is an interesting question. Without doubt, the Liberals and Tories would like to see it continue for as long as possible.

Who and what is behind Toronto's Nazi/Khomeinist rally

The irony would be comedic if it wasn't draped in genocidal malice.

In Toronto, this Friday night and Saturday afternoon, two gatherings facilitated by followers of Iran's Holocaust-denying, totalitarian leaders will convene in a frenzy of hatred known as al Quds Day to remonstrate against the middle east's only genuine democracy.

The organizers of the upcoming assemblies are devout adherents to the branch of Shia Islam represented by the Iran's late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and his successor as that nation's absolute ruler, Ayatollah Ali Khameni.

Both Khomeini and Khameni led Iranian regimes in which female political prisoners, many of them children, were systematically raped by security forces. Their political opponents, as well as religious and ethnic minorities such as Baha'i and Kurds are routinely tortured and executed.  Iran's Council of Guardian-approved  President Ahmadinejad's ridiculous assertion that there are no homosexuals in Iran was probably an aspiration, as Gays are executed in that country for their sexual orientation. There is no free speech in Iran as the media is tightly-controlled and opposition newspapers can be shut down by the government at will.

At the end of the week, Canadian acolytes of that tyrannical autocracy will be denouncing Israel, a country that has free elections, universal enfranchisement for its citizens, equal rights for women free speech, respects Gay rights and rule of law, all features that are absent in Iran. Al Quds Day was first decreed by Khomeini in 1979 as an annual event for the purpose of rallying Muslim to destroy Israel. The spectacle of disciples of Iran's sadistic rulers denouncing Israel as "oppressive" will be as preposterous as if followers of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un were denouncing Canada for its lack of democracy.

The offense of the travesty is not limited towards Jews. Iranian ex-patriots who fled the brutality of their homelands Mullahs are appalled at seeing the monstrous ideology they escaped manifest itself in the streets of the nation they fled to for asylum.

The local Khomeinists involved with the Toronto al Quds Day reflect the poison exuded by Iran's leadership. A series of emails uncovered by the blogger BlazingCatFur in their online discussion group routinely feature Holocaust-denial and anti-Semitism.

Iluminating still is that a facebook page coordinating Toronto's Queen's Park Rally was created by Siraj Ali, an organizer of other local Shia rallies.

Rallies Mr. Ali was behind saw him cheering on as demented conspiracy theories were proclaimed, blaming internecine Muslim violence between Sunni and Shia in far-flung locals like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on "Zionist" plots.

On Tuesday, The Canadian Race Relations Foundation expressed its "grave concerns" about the al Quds Day rally, saying "the framework for attacks against Israel and Zionists is replete with phrases found in similar Neo-Nazi and antisemitic attacks."

It is immaterial whether the al Quds Day Khomeinists actually believe their paranoid, depraved proclamations against Israel and Jews or if they are are consciously employing Nazi-like propaganda and scapegoating as a means of demagoguery. What needs to be understood is that there is a hateful, bigoted infection of totalitarianism in our midst, and if we do  not confront it, the problem will only grow.

Toronto City Councillor denounces use of municipal facilities for Khomeinist al Quds seminar

A rancid melange of hummus and hatred will be served up at the municipally-owned Scarborough Centennial Centre when the Khomeinist Canadian Shia Muslim Organization (CASMO)  holds its annual dinner and al Quds seminar there this Friday night.

The news of this event just became public and has outraged Ward 10 Councillor James Pasternak. "It's late in the day to get this cancelled, but the City of Toronto should be playing no role in providing space or shelter to groups that promote hatred and intolerance and I'm shocked they were allowed to use city facilities this year," he said in an exclusive interview with Eye on a Crazy Planet.

The al Quds Day rally planned for the following afternoon at Queens Park has already generated a whirlwind of controversy because of the racist invective featured at last year's rally which CASMO had organized.  It featured a local acolyte of Iran's regime, Zafar Bangash, who furiously spewed at US President Barack Obama, to whom he referred as "that black man in the White House" and declared his aspiration to witness a massive Muslim march on Israel to impose Islamic law there, presumably after all its non-Muslim inhabitants were slaughtered. The ravings of Shia speakers spouting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories at the rally became widely known and publicly reviled. The ensuing scrutiny discouraged CASMO from being the applicant for this year's rally.  

CASMO received national notoriety after posting anti-Semitic videos of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke on its website. After that public expression of Jew-hatred was publicized, first through through blogs and then the mainstream media, the ensuing humiliation led them to proclaim their ostensive opposition to anti-Semitism while continuing to espouse conspiracy theories about "international Zionism". The Shia group hosts an al Quds Day event to honor Iran's late, theocratic dictator, the Ayatollah Khomeini, who proclaimed the last Friday of Ramadan as a day to rally Muslims to the cause of the elimination of Israel.

Last year, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and Councillors Doug Ford and Pasternak attempted to have the city deny permission for CASMO's use of the Centennial Centre for the dinner. According to City policy, the decision had to be made on the basis of whether the applicant violated the City's anti-Discrimination policy. 

Toronto's Manager of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights was the person who was left to make that initial decision. But in a strange twist, that Manager, Uzma Shakir, had written inflammatory anti-Israel articles for the radical leftist website rabble.ca in which she asserted that because of the Canadian government's support for the Jewish state, Muslim immigrants do not owe their full loyalty to Canada.

For his part, Councillor Pasternak intends to contact City officials to ensure warnings are issued to CASMO, as they were last year, and that the gathering is monitored for compliance to make sure the type of hatred invoked at their 2011 Queen's Park rally is not repeated on City property. 

"I'm highly offended that groups like this are allowed to spew their hate both on City property and on the steps of the Legislature," Pasternak stated. "There should be no place in the City of Toronto for such groups that attempt to bully and promote hatred and intolerance."  

A spokesperson for Mayor Rob Ford's office said the mayor will review the situation regarding the CASMO al Quds dinner and determine which appropriate steps should be taken.

Since our tax dollars are helping to subsidize the ridiculous paranoia and vapid concepts disseminated by the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), it's only fair all of us paying for it should derive some benefit.

The Institution has entire departments devoted to nonsensical ideas, like that of gender being a psychological construct and that racism is OK for some but not for others, as well as an innumerable slew of crackpot theories, so it's unlikely any yield will ever emerge from OISE advancing the field of Education.

However, at least they can give us some laughs.

Today's amusing bit of stupid from OISE is supplied by Professor Shahrzad Mojab of their "Leadership, Higher and Adult Education Department" (Reading what they produce, I figure the emphasis is on working to get higher than Harold and Kumar).  One of Ms Mojab's areas of focus is women's rights in the less developed parts of the planet.

Now, when it comes to the erosion of women's rights in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, you might come to the natural conclusion that has something to so with the latest spread of Islamism and its repressive misogyny in those regions.  

More fool you then, if Ms Mojab is to be believed. She writes the real culprits are western governments, which are "in concert with large charitable foundations and corporations to actively suppress and dismantle social movements, including the women’s movement."

That's right, you got it; repression of women in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Palestinian Territories is is not due to Islamism, but is part of an evil western capitalist conspiracy.  

How silly to think it could be anything else! If you are experiencing  any disbelief of Ms Mojab's assertion, it must undoubtedly be due to the globalizing mind control drugs the capitalists are sneaking into Coca-Cola, so get over it!

It's really all so obvious, as she explains:

"International donors working with the political elites, shifted resources away from the highly political women’s movement toward absorbing women leaders into ministries.  Another shift was removing funding away from organizations whose goals were political transformation and the national liberation struggle toward organizations that fit into the framework of state-building. "

Ah, those clever, wicked capitalists! 

They were using women's groups to support women in underdeveloped countries by helping them attain roles in critical decision making mechanisms like government. Oh, those crafty, devious capitalists! They have devised a sinister plot to assist women by directing funds to enable them to gain leadership roles in their societies rather than by financing Communist or Islamist revolutionary groups! The fiends!

Hate Group CASMO holding another al Quds gathering on Toronto municipal property

His ear always to the ground as far as the goings on of hateful Khomeinist organizations, blogger Blazing Cat Fur has discovered that CASMO is holding its annual al Quds day diner and Israel-bashing seminar on city property this Friday night. Al Quds Day is the annual event invented by Iran's sadistic despot, the Ayatollah Khomeini, to rally support for Muslims to destroy the Jewish state. CASMO gained national notoriety after it posted videos of the racist former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke on its website in which he espoused anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

Last year, despite herculean efforts by Councillors Doug Ford, James Pasternak and Mayor Ford to convince the City bureaucrats to prevent it, the night of felafels and jihadism went forward. That happened because the decision to allow it was made by Uzma Shakir,  the City's Manager of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights.

But since then, a lot of information about Ms Shakir has emerged that suggests she has a very serious conflict of interest when it comes to decisions regarding anything involving Israel and its local supporters or enemies.

Ms Shakir has gone so far as to have written, at the virulently anti-Israel website rabble.ca, that Canadian Muslims do not owe loyalty to Canada because of the Canadian government's stance on the Israel Palestine issue.

She wrote:

“when we adopt a partisan policy stance towards conflicts that are unresolved like Palestine and Israel when both Arabs/Muslims and Jews are Canadian citizens and deserve our 'equal' consideration, it is hard to be grateful or indeed hopeful. No! Immigrants do not owe their loyalty to Canada unquestioningly -- Canada needs to earn that loyalty..." 

The Khomeinists of CASMO have a right to their vitriol and fanaticism. But the question is, do they have a right to hold it on civic property rather than renting some private beer cellar or other such natural environment for Jew hatred?

The Mayor's office and a number of City Councillors are expected to speak out on this and we shall see what ensues.

Hypocritical Hamas Prime Minister sends relative to Israel for medical treatment

HAIFA, Israel –  Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has no problem calling for the destruction of Israel and blaming it for attacks linked to his own party, but when his relative needs life-saving heart surgery, only Israeli doctors will do.

The stunning hypocrisy comes to light after five Hamas-backed terrorists allegedly killed 16 Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula that borders Gaza. Although evidence points to a Hamas-backed terror operation, Haniyeh inexplicably blamed it on Israel. The suspects were later killed by Israeli Defense Forces when they tried to cross the Kerem Shalom border.

Yet only a few months ago, the revelation that Ismail Haniyeh’s brother-in-law received a special permit from the Israeli government to travel into the Jewish State to receive life-saving heart surgery has come as something of a surprise. 

"Israel is responsible, one way or another, for this attack to embarrass Egypt's leadership and create new problems at the border, in order to ruin efforts to end the [Israeli] siege of the Gaza Strip,” Haniyeh claimed during in an interviews with the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa television.

Can CTV's Brian Williams spare us asinine cultural relativism in the future?

Watching the 2012 Olympic closing ceremonies, I was just treated to this pearl of wisdom from CTV's Brian Williams:  "The medal winners are not just white, Anglo-Saxon Protestants but reflect the true nature of multicultural Britain."

I can't imagine how anyone but a condescending, pompous twit trying to wear his "liberalism" like a badge of honor would even bother to note something so obvious, Mitt Romney gaffes notwithstanding.

The cretinous trope that Canada's sanctimonious multiculturalists have managed to perpetrate is that multicultural means the same thing as multi-racial. It means no such thing. And we get to have such idiocy infused into every aspect of our culture, even sports coverage.

Discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity is deplorable and indicates an intellectual dearth on the part of anyone who engages in such behavior. Almost as deplorable is destructive vapidity of proponents of the concept that all cultures are equal.

Cultures are a form of group behavior based on traditions and practices;  in short ideas.

Are all ideas equal?

Is the idea that a woman should be forced to wear a tent so she doesn't tantalize a man by letting him see a flash of skin as valid an idea that women should have the same rights and freedoms as a man? Are cultures that say murderers of children, (if those children should happen to be infidels,) are rewarded with sex in the afterlife as civilized as cultures which say terrorism is evil and abhorrent?

There are those pontiffs of moral relevance in Canada who want you to believe it is wrong to believe ours is superior to such cultures. Ours is a society built upon philosophies tracing back millennia, from before the Ten Commandments through the time of Socrates, the Magna Carta, the Constitution of the United States and so much more. We have indeed incorporated ideas from the past while rejecting those we, as a society and a culture rejected as being inferior.

The result is a western society that is the most advanced in the history of the world. Yet there are still barbaric cultures in the modern world, barely literate, which practice slavery and subjugation of human rights.

Is a culture that believes in free speech and the expression of ideas equal to one that will kill you for insults to its god or bloodthirsty desert "prophet?"  Only a halfwit would say 'yes' and unfortunately, there are many  of them among us.

Should a culture that decrees a young woman's clitoris must be sliced off so she can experience no sexual gratification and be faithful to her husband one to be condemned? There are fools among us who say "no."

Once we abandon the idea that our culture has any superiority, than we condemn ourselves to eradication in the tides of envious, backwards cultures which pretend to want to co-exist, but in fact want to supplant ours. Why should we preserve our culture if it has just the same value as any other?

I don't really blame Brian Willaims for any of this. He's a decent guy who means well. He was only trying to be a nice, squishy, feel-good multiculturalist who said the sort of thing Canadians are often conditioned to say.  Just like the moral relativists among us want.

A bit of comedy making the rounds the last few days comes in the form of a Letter to the Editor published by al Starzeera (The Toronto Star) by a Barbara Falby of Toronto.

Barbara is listed as a member of the Steering Committee of an environmental organization called For our Grandchildren. The three luminaries who have accepted Honorary Membership in the group are fruit fly expert David Suzuki, Stephen Lewis, who inflicted Avi Lewis on the world, and a senile  Desmond Tutu. She is also a member of an environmental group called JustEarth, chaired by former NDP MP Lynn McDonald, who evidently now believes that democracy is a failure because it isn't adequately capable of addressing her climate change paranoia. It should come as no surprise that JustEarth holds its meetings at Toronto's hub of radical idiocy, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

The letter, which Stephen Taylor does an excellent, if superfluous job of fisking, reads like it was written by a crazed environmentalist peaking on LSD. Ms Falby attributed blame for the following on Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper:

• The recent shooting of 24 people in a Toronto Community Housing project
• Species extinction of bats, frogs, bees, etc.

It's not surprising that these types of opinions are prevalent among a certain type, but giving prominence to what, if not meant as parody, sounds like insanity, seems crazy even by al Starzeera's loose standards.

One of the more challenging responsibilities of the Ontario Legislature's Sergeant-at-Arms is having to decide which groups are allowed to hold rallies on the Legislature's grounds at Queen's Park. The current holder of the Sergeant-at-Arms position is Dennis Clark and his role is within the Civil Service and is supposed to be free of political interference.

There are frequently demonstrations denouncing the ruling party of the day and if reflects well on us as a democratic society that such events are sanctioned at the seat of government. But decisions about such maters would be substantially more credible if they weren't being made by someone whose official costume made him look like a cross between a baritone about to start singing, "I am the monarch of the sea" and Mr. Bumble from Oliver Twist.

There are limits to what would be considered acceptable discourse that deserves the imprimatur of the Legislature's acquiescence. A racist group calling for the extermination of a nation would not normally be afforded that privilege, nor would one that openly displays support for terrorist organizations that are illegal in Canada.

An Al Quds Day rally to be held at Queens Park next Saturday at 2 pm seems destined to fall into those latter categories. 

Mr Clark is in the unenviable position of having to predict, like in the movie Minority Report, crimes that might be committed in the future before denying an application for a rally. "Very seldom do we deny something unless they came in and they told us that what they were going to do was unlawful"  Clark told The Toronto Sun.

But a magical psychic gift isn't really necessary to know what will happen at the Al Quds Day rally nest week.Mr. Clark may have neglected to perform the rudimentary research into the nature of Al Quds Day that shows its hateful, violent nature and origins.

The event was created by Iran's despotic Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. A bloodthirsty degenerate, Khomeini led a regime known for systematically raping women for the supposed crime of 'immodesty' as well as the routine torture and murder of political opponents.

Khomeini designated the last day of the Muslim month-long festival of Ramadan at Al Quds Day, to promote the Islamic world to rise up and destroy the state of Israel. Regrettably, Khomeini has acolytes in Canada, such as the hate-monger Zafar Bangash of the York region Islamic Society and the Canadian Shia Muslim Organization, which were the forces behind last year's Queen's Park Al Quds Day rally.

At the 2011 gathering, Zafar Bangash called for a Jihad against Israel and in an apoplectic fit, made a racist reference to US President Barack Obama as "that black man in the White House." Flags of  Iranian-backed Hezbollah, designated an terrorist group by the Canadian government, flew prominently at last year's al Quds hate fest at Queen's Park. What made matters substantially worse was that a representative of Mr. Clark's Legislative Security force abused her authority by trying to deny the legal right of a blogger to photograph women holding the Hezbollah flags because it would offend "Muslim sensibilities."

The Jewish Defense League will be at Queen's Park on Saturday to hold a counter-protest against the Khomeinist fanatics.  If the powers that be are too afraid of offending a hate group's sensibilities to stand up to them, it is refreshing that there are free citizens who believe in Canadian values and don't share those fears.

United Church of Canada leaders team up with 9-11 conspiracy nuts to demonize Israel

As their numbers plummet while the average age of its membership is in the Senior Citizen category, the United Church of Canada is finding some very strange bedfellows in its desperate struggle for relevance.

Unable to find it in a revitalization of religious belief, it has somewhat foolishly turned to finding common cause with radical political movements. In what could be mistaken for an ecclesiastic pantomime of a G20 protest, environmental extremists, anti-Israel fanatics, Omar Khadr aficionados, and  immigration reform opponents have all been courted by the current United Church leadership. The result was not new adherents so much as alienating a large number of the rank-and file and continuing the exodus away from the Church's thinning pews.

One of the most controversial and potentially self-destructive moves the United Church has made has been to engage in yet another foray into the quagmire of the Israeli-Arab dispute, with a decidedly anti-Israel bias. Ironically while striving to demonstrate how "progressive" it is, the United Church's embrace of radical leftist ideology has returned it to the ancient, anti-Semitic roots of early Christian theology. The United Church's Working Group on Israel Palestine, whose report recommends a boycott of Israeli settlement goods, heavily draws upon the so-called Palestine Kairos document. That treatise denies a special relationship between Israel and the Jewish people, places all the blame on Israel for its ongoing conflict with the Palestinians, and refers to "the Israeli occupation" as "an evil and a sin that must be resisted and removed."  The document, which says of Israelis,  "they must liberate themselves from the evil that is in them and the injustice they have imposed on others," is considered by many to be inherently anti-Semitic.

Among the most insidious aspects of the new leftist Jew-hate is its tactic of trotting out ridiculous Jewish anti-Zionist fanatics and displaying them like comical banners at the front of an April Fool's parade. In that vein, the United Church's of Canada's Comox-Nanaimo Presbytery's declaration that they "work with Jewish organizations such as Independent Jewish Voices, which are committed to seeing Justice for the people of Palestine" is less offensive than if Shutzstaffel leader Heinrich Himmler had said "we are working with our Jewish labor camp kapos, who are committed to seeing justice for the Aryan people," but we are only talking about degrees.

Independent Jewish Voices is headed by a 9-11 conspiracy theorist named Diana Ralph. After 12 years hard work of being on Disability Leave from her position of Associate Professor of Social Work at Carleton University, Ms Ralph, who seemed to get around a lot for someone on disability leave, retired from that institution in 2011. With all that additional extra free time, she can now devote herself exclusively to eradicating Jewish national self-determination.

As one might expect, Ms Ralph is not the only 9-11 conspiracy theorist in the organization she co-founded. Her co-Chair and fellow Independent Jewish Voices founder Sid Shiniad shares her views and the organization of fringe radicals is liberally peppered with adherents to a movement that proposes the attack by Muslim terrorists on the World Trade Center and Pentagon was actually the work of "neo-cons and Zionists."

Independent Jewish Voices are, as the National Post's Jonathan Kay observed:

an extremist group whose leaders support a total economic boycott of Israel, defend the UN's original anti-Semitic Durban conference, support the destruction of the Jewish character of Israel through the influx of millions of Palestinians, spread conspiracy theories about the "Israeli lobby," promote the blood libel that Israel deliberately targeted "children playing on roofs" during the Gaza conflict, and cheered on the illegal occupation of the Israeli consulate in Toronto..

If the United Church's leaders think they can shield themselves from being perceived as anti-Semitic by playing footsie with a small group of fringe Jews whose actions and statements could easily be interpreted to suggest serious, unresolved psychiatric issues, they will find themselves sorely mistaken.

Yet in the ranks of the United Church there are still voices of sanity and reason. Reverend Andrew Love of Grace St. Andrew's United Church in Arnprior has launched a campaign to counter the noxious agenda of the denomination's leadership. He says that "there remains an undercurrent of anti-Semitism" in the church. Love has warned that if the recommendations of the Working Group on Israel/Palestine's report are adopted, the United Church, rather than advancing the cause of peace, will destroy its relationship with the Jewish community and render itself irrelevant to playing any role in helping resolve the Israel/Palestine question.

That's an insightful assessment that towers above anything the United Church's leaders have offered on the issue to date. Whether it is one that the Church's leaders heed at its General Council next week will decide less about the future of the mideast than it will about a United Church that is in danger of loosing its bearings.

Islamic sect in Russia discovered living in catacombs

The subterranean sect was discovered by police and security forces in the village of Torfyanoy near Kazan in the republic of Tatarstan, the biggest majority-Muslim region in Russia, 500 miles east of Moscow.

Marvin Hamlisch dies at age 68

Marvin Hamlisch, who composed or arranged the scores for dozens of movies including "The Sting" and the Broadway smash "A Chorus Line," has died in Los Angeles. He was 68.

...Hamlisch composed more than 40 film scores, including "Sophie's Choice," ''Ordinary People," ''The Way We Were" and "Take the Money and Run." He won his third Oscar for his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for "The Sting." His latest work came for Steven Soderbergh's "The Informant!"


On Broadway, Hamlisch received both a Tony and the Pulitzer Prize in 1975 for the long-running favourite "A Chorus Line" and wrote the music for "The Goodbye Girl" and "Sweet Smell of Success." He was scheduled to fly to Nashville, Tenn., this week to see a production of his musical "The Nutty Professor," according to his publicist.

It has been almost 40 years since The Sting was released. People now forget that Hamlisch`s orchestrations of Scott Joplin's music for The Sting caused a resurgence of interest in ragtime, a musical genre that lad been largely ignored for the previous four decades.

Jon Stewart looked back at yesterday’s national Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, wondering what could have inspired such massive cravings for a chicken sandwich. Well, the massive protest started by Mike Huckabee to support the right of the fast food franchise’s owner to state his views on gay marriage, which Stewart dubbed the “million mouth march,” resulted in the chain making record profits. Stewart agreed with the First Amendment argument, and even ripped into the mayors trying to ban the chain from their cities.

White Terror: New lunacy from the race-baiting fanatics at OISE

Over at the blog Blazing Cat Fur, a fine job has been done keeping us informed of the self-serving, hypocritical idiocy coming from our future generation of would-be educators. A current example comes from a Shaista Patel, who defines herself as a Muslim feminist. Evidently being a Muslim feminist doesn't mean criticizing Islamic misogyny, forced marriages, gender apartheid, or honor killings in Muslim cultures. It means being a Muslim who criticizes genuine Muslim feminists like Irshad Manji while telling white Canadians that they are evil oppressors and occupiers of Native land. 

So it only seemed fitting to take a look at what's going on at Ms. Patel's home at that toxic pedagogical wasteland of Marxist proselytizing, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).  

OISE - occupying and colonizing Native land since 1973

The Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education (SESE), a notoriously academically inept program at OISE, produced two anti-Semitic theses in 2010.  One of which was condemned by Ontario's Minister of Citizenship and was roundly mocked as thoroughly incompetent as to suggest, as the National Post's Jonathan Kay ironically put it, that OISE is the type of place where you could get a "course credit for setting up an anti-Israel facebook page."  That same program then produced a thesis declaring that western feminists opposed to female genital mutilation are lascivious racists motivated by an obsession with genitalia and "the pleasure of whiteness."  

Sociology and Equity Studies became such a humiliation that OISE recently changed the department's name this year to "Humanities, Social Sciences and Social Justice Education." The name suggests the same insidious indoctrination is happening in the new department, but with the hope that subsequent alumni are alleviated of some of the stigma attached to its predecessor. 

However, we still can get perverse entertainment from SESE, which has a few academic dregs in the form of theses leftover from the old auspices. One of which is a remarkable representation of the deplorable race-baiting identity politics that pervades the thinking at OISE.  

It is a doctoral thesis called White Terror, Canada's Indian Residential Schools, and the Colonial Present: from Law Towards a Pedagogy of Recognition. In the name of so-called anti-racism, it perpetuates the despicable idea that people are merely constructs of their skin color with a collective identity and responsibility, rather than distinct individuals. In fact, its author, Leslie Thielen-Wilson, actually states that, "the European ideology of possessive individualism.., and the ontological force of property.. to which it gives rise, is one important element to this racial power network and its productive force. "    

The thesis is a reflection of the fatuous, simplistic, and effectively racist doctrines spouted by its thesis adviser, Sherene Razick. Pronouncing from her comfortable perch at OISE, the grounds of which occupy an acre of once-First Nations land which is now some of the most valuable real estate in Canada, Razack pompously teaches that Canada "is a white settler society and that we live in an ongoing colonial project."  

That type of stereotyping, which sits like a grotesque Rumpelstiltskin of thought in the mental crevices of critical race theorists, presumes that every white person is a privileged racist as an inevitable consequence of their skin color. It says that a poor worker who immigrated from Poland or the Ukraine, which had no part in the English and French colonization of Canada, is a privileged oppressor and colonizer. Whereas a tenured University of Toronto professor who is an immigrant from Iran or Pakistan, makes over a hundred thousand dollars a year, gets one of every seven years off for paid sabbatical and a lucrative pension among other privileges, is an oppressed victim and does not share in the collective white guilt of colonization. 

Smugly thinking they are cloaked in the inviolability of their self-proclaimed victimhood, OISE's poobahs exhale malefic manifestos from their mushroom thrones. Their clouded ideology encourages more and more immigration from third world countries, many of which have inherently racist, violent cultures. If immigrants have white skin and are from Europe, they add to the `crime` of  "occupation" and "colonization" of Canada, but at the University of Toronto's crown jewel of education studies, developing world immigrants they inanely refer to as "racialized" get colonizer exemption status. Because quite a few OISE professors teach that race is the primary determining factor of a collective guilt and accountability, which places them in  philosophical agreement with Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan.  

In her thesis,  Ms Thielen-Wilson writes with palpable self-abasement, " I am a Canadian of European descent, a Euro-Canadian, a white settler, white.  I agree with Alfred that settlers must be forced into a reckoning of who (and perhaps what) we are before we can be held accountable for colonial violence (past and present) and before we can attempt to embark upon anti- or  non-colonial relationships with Indigenous peoples in the present." 

One could mix a justifiable dread of how Thielen-Wilson might intend to force such a "reckoning" upon Euro-Canadians (a terrifying image is conjured of Mao or Pol Pot's forced reckoning of their less enlightened subjects) with the comfort that, with the exception of her Women's Studies students at Western University,  she is unlikely to ever be in a position to force anyone to do anything. But when she writes, "I suggest that this reckoning...requires that Euro-Canadians understand that we are part of a white collective body...and that this collective body continues to engage in practices (often violent, always vile).." it is a frightening reminder of the shameful racism and denial of individuality with which OISE conditions its students. More frightening is that its graduates go on to teaching positions in schools and universities and form school board curricula.  

If you think this critique of OISE as racist is rhetorical hyperbole, then consider for a moment what the reaction would be if Ms Thielen-Wilson had substituted another skin color for 'white' in her statements. If she had written that Indo-Canadians or Native Canadians were part of a brown or red collective body that engages in practices, often violent, always vile, she would likely be charged with a Hate Crime.

Perhaps someday OISE's teachers will recognize that regardless of our skin color; red, black, yellow, brown, white, whatever, we are are individual human beings responsible for our own actions, neither culpable for nor ennobled by the acts of others with whom we have little in common other than pigmentation. Regrettably, that day seems far off at OISE's radical departments, be they old or in the new guise of Humanities, Social Sciences and Social Justice Education. For now, that institute remains a disgrace and embarrassment to the field of education.
