Terror supporter Mona Saif nominated for Human Rights prize

An Egyptian activist who endorses terror groups that murder Israelis has been nominated for the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders.

On the nominating jury were NGOs Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. The award is supported by the governments of Ireland and Spain among others. Ironically, also among the groups supporting the award to someone who wants Jews dead is Sweden`s Raoul Wallenberg Institute, named after the hero who saved thousands of Jews during the Second World War.

If Ms Saif does win the award, the least they could do is rename it The Richard Falk Prize for Terrorist Supporters.

Terence Corcoran: Minister takes on climate scientist, and wins

It takes a rare politician to stand up and take shots at a climate scientist who’s the darling of the global warmist movement. Even more uncommon is to see a politician take on such a climate scientist—and win the contest.
And so unfolded events last week when Joe Oliver, Canada’s natural resources minister, flew into Washington to build support for the Keystone XL pipeline. Before speaking at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Mr. Oliver pointedly took aim at James Hansen, the former NASA scientist and one of the godfathers of climate catastrophism. Instead of a gooey marshmallow capitulation on the issue of climate change, Mr. Oliver  questioned Mr. Hansen’s tendency to make claims that are at least exaggerations and often outright beyond-the-fringe.

Hezbollah taking a beating from Syrian rebels

Bodies of 30 fighters belonging to the militant group Hezbollah arrived in Lebanon from Syria, Syrian opposition sources told Al Arabiya on Monday.
The sources added that Al-Quds Brigade commander, whose known by his nickname, Abu Ajeeb, was also killed in Syria in battles against rebels.
Reports have emerged that members of the Lebanese Shiite group were fighting with forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against rebels.
Former Hezbollah chief Subhi al-Tufaili told Al Arabiya in an interview earlier this week that at least 138 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in the Syria fighting.
Tufaili added that Hezbollah, who is backed by Iran and the Syrian regime, was told to fight with the Assad forces in direct orders from Tehran.
However, the Shiite group has repeatedly stated that it was not taking part in the fighting in Syria.

California university professor forced to apologize to a cockroach

An incident at Claremont McKenna University in California in which an Israeli academic was harassed and threatened by a Palestinian student has ended with the Professor, Yaron Raviv, compelled to apologize for calling the student a "Fucking cockroach."

The reprehensible behavior by anti-Israel protesters in which they interfered with and deprived rights to other students at Claremont McKenna. The response from the university, as so often happens in cases like these has been gutless and condemned the professor while imposing no sanctions on the threatening Palestinian campus thugs.

From Prof Raviv's account:

The [Campus Safety] officer arrived and he parked his car 30-40 feet south of the entrance in front of Story House. I saw the guy and wanted to go talk to him to explain what was going on. I started to walk toward his direction, and a [student from the demonstration approached me] and told me to my face, “Who are you? Show me your ID! Are you faculty or a visitor? If you are a visitor, you cannot be on campus after 5:00 p.m. Show me your campus pass!” I told him, “I will never show you my ID. It’s not your business who I am. I can be a faculty or a visitor; it’s not your business.” I kept walking toward the officer and this guy is in my face, you know, like overly aggressively. I started to talk with the [Campus Safety] officer and I said, “Listen, this student event has been approved for this demonstration, but they cannot block the entrance, you need to move them 10 feet aside.” To give [the Campus Safety officer] some validity to what I was saying, I pulled out my faculty ID. The [student] who was in my face basically said, “Oh, you are faculty! I will hunt you down!” And I said, “What? You will hunt me down? You’re a fucking, little cockroach.”

Does the media "bully" Conservatives?

The word bully has lost all meaning - now it simply is used to describe someone you don't like.

Think of how, during the 1972 federal election, the media published an unflattering photo of Progressive Conservative leader Robert Stanfield dropping a football.

Many consider it one of the top “gaffes” in Canadian political history.

But was it also a case of the media subconsciously planting doubts in the minds of voters as to Stanfield’s masculinity?

If he can’t catch a football he must be a nerd, nerds are weak, weak people are bad leaders.

Or how about the time the CBC’s Rick Mercer launched a petition during the 2000 federal election to get Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day to change his first name to “Doris?

Was that funny or was it bullying? Was the subtext of Mercer's "joke" that Day was something less than a man?

Certainly it got voters laughing at Day.

Nor is Prime Minister Stephen Harper immune. Remember the mockery over his cowboy outfit? And the Huffington Post and journalists on Twitter once got a real “chuckle” over how Harper wore a hat.

Jizz Caveat Emptor: Sperm buyers beware

For most men, a fantasy leading to arousal and orgasm is not the dream of being left alone in a mundane, nondescript office with a couple of posters of mass-produced, pedestrian art on the wall and a pornographic magazine for an inspirational boost.

But the sperm donor is an entirely different sort of guy.

A growing number of people; in some cases infertile couples, in others, women desperate to reproduce but lacking a male in their lives willing to father a child with them, have turned to the anonymous sperm bank donor for a solution.

But there's a major downside to that approach, aside from the obvious irritants of expense and invasive medical intervention in something that, for most of us, is a natural biological process.

There have been recent court cases highlighting some of the legal quandaries emerging from this relatively new phenomenon, but the consequences to sperm donation are often far worse.

As much as many social scientists would like to believe that personality and human characteristics are a consequence of environment and education, real science points to genetics as being the overwhelming factor in shaping our personalities.

So what kind of man chooses to go through a vetting process for the privilege of masturbating into a plastic cup and possibly passing his genes along in the form of a child he's never likely to meet, let alone have any personal involvement with?

Odds are, it's going to be a guy with some serious psychological problems. The kind of problems that are very likely to be passed along to the products of such conception.

That assertion outrages some women, particularly childless women in their mid-thirties to early forties who hear their biological clock winding down but don't want to be compelled to deal with a prospective father for the foreseeable future. These women often insist that sperm donors must be wonderful, altruistic men who are prepared to bestow an invaluable gift to those in need.

But try asking a sane man whether he would want to be an anonymous sperm donor. Almost invariably,  the response is a disgusted shake of the head and a loud "no!"  It's one thing, in jurisdictions where sperm donors are paid, for a drunk college kid to extemporaneously find a convenient way to continue a drinking binge. But to walk in dead sober and do what needs to be done requires a very peculiar personality-type. Narcissism combined with social maladjustment are a couple of the features that spring to mind, but not in as fun, or as smart a way as The Big Bang Theory. They are features one might not want to see in anyone's offspring, especially their own.

I know women that are still sceptics. Try asking them if the roles were reversed, would they anonymously donate an egg so that someone else could have one of her children; a child she would never see or hold or meet?  The typical first response is to point out how the medical procedure for egg collection is not comparable as it requires painful surgery. Fair enough.

But what if, hypothetically, the method for a woman was the same as for a man? What if all it required was for a woman to go in that room and stimulate herself to orgasm to cause an egg or two to cheerfully pop out of her into a sterile receptacle, never to be seen again, either in pre or post natal form. Would a psychologically balanced woman do it?

I think we all know the answer to that one.

And there are studies that confirm it. Offspring produced by sperm donation have a very high rate of psychiatric problems.

Apparently in China, they've found a way of improving the gene pool of sperm donors that is typical of that country's methodology since Chairman Mao. They force people to do it.

But until we adopt that means, which we likely never will, it's worth considering that if nature doesn't want something to happen, maybe it shouldn't.

The Toronto Star's Heather Mallick makes stupidity a new form of public spectacle

Of course if Mallick were a journalist, she might have found out that the terrorists planned to derail a Via train on the trestle as it was crossing the border between Canada and the States. A train full of passengers falling into the Niagara River would be quite spectacular, even if aimed against a pitiful old Via train.

As for al Qaeda and Iran, yes, they do consider each other heretics. Yes, they'll likely get around to killing each other some day, but like anyone, they have priorities. First, they'd like to kill or enslave the infidels, starting with Americans, Westerners in general, and Jews. And while they're busy with that fairly tall order, they're willing to sometimes work together.

Indeed, The Western intelligence community has long known that al Qaeda has a branch in Iran. It's not a secret. With a few minutes' research. Mallick could have learned that Iran tolerates al Qaeda's presence. Has for more than a decade.

Brian's Blog, quoted above, is off by a bit - it should have only taken Mallick a few seconds to find details of the al Qaida/Iran link. But Torontonians who familiar with her know Mallick's crazy ravings aren't really journalism - she's the Toronto Star's contribution to the field of comedy.

Terrorists have darkened Islam’s image. Sadly, Muslims let it happen

From Adnan Khan in the Globe and Mail:
The narrative of Islam has traveled down a dark road, and Muslims themselves are largely to blame. That they have allowed a small, inherently marginalized group to hijack that narrative is a reflection of an overarching malaise in Muslim thought.

How dare the mean Tories make fun of Prince Bonehead Trudeau!??!

Attack Ads have a valuable place in our political system.

But morons in the (big L) Liberal media, with a puppy love crush on Prince Boneheadcan't handle it when their idol is mocked and have flocked to his defense..

UPDATE: An idiotic Toronto Star columnist has jumped the shark, going beyond the facile comparison of attack ads to "cyber bullying," he has compared them to terrorism:

What does it mean to say these ads “work”? It doesn’t mean public discourse about issues is, in any sense, enhanced. It doesn’t mean voter turnout is increased, or respect for the political process deepened, or the country strengthened. No, to say attack ads work means that the “attacker” benefits, gets more power, earns more money, has more control, while the “attacked” is weakened, diminished, left powerless....
Lots of nasty things in our society work, in this sense, quite nicely. Yes, let’s start with bullying. It often works rather well, in the tawdry way we’ve defined: Creepy little twerps with crummy self-esteem feel important when they humiliate others.
Terrorism works, too, as we’ve been reminded again recently — a whole city was shut down, every major media outlet placed on monovision, by two losers who are now famous around the world. If that’s not a victory, what would one would look like?

And incidentally, the Star has the concept backwards - terrorism, like attack ads, doesn't work if the targets are capable of responding  effectively. Ask Osama bin Laden if you don't believe me. And if one dead and one wounded, incarcerated and one soon-to-be-tried-for-a-capitol-offense Boston Marathon terrorist, who have shamed their Islamist ideology is The Star's idea of "victory," then it explains a great deal about their vapid, defeatist, self-pitying editorial philosophy.

Charles Krauthammer: George W. Bush is our century’s Harry Truman

Clare Boothe Luce liked to say that “a great man is one sentence.” Presidents, in particular. The most common “one sentence” for George W. Bush (whose legacy is being reassessed as his presidential library opens) is: “He kept us safe.”
Not quite right. He did not just keep us safe. He created the entire anti-terror infrastructure that continues to keep us safe.
That homage was paid, wordlessly, by Barack Obama, who vilified Bush’s anti-terror policies as a candidate, then continued them as president: indefinite detention, rendition, warrantless wiretaps, special forces and drone warfare and, most notoriously, Guantanamo, which Obama so ostentatiously denounced — until he found it indispensable.
Quite a list. Which is why there was not one successful terror bombing on U.S. soil from 9/11 until last week.

Canada's useful idiots of Jihad

Canadians are on their guard against the growing Islamist threat. After all, the last month alone brought the Boston Marathon bombing, and arrests in Canada of suspected Iranian-linked al-Qaeda bomb-plotters targeting Canada-US passenger train routes. Add to that, repeated stories of Islamist radicalism in Canadian neighborhoods and young Canadian Muslim terrorists abroad.
Against this backdrop, the last thing to be expected at this fraught time would be a public event in Canada's capital showcasing a radical Islamist, boasting a master of ceremonies from the tax-funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, involving a respected mental health foundation, and including the wife of the highest office-holder in the land. Nonetheless, this is what is being planned for Ottawa, this weekend.

Motives behind Gypsy anti-Sun News demonstration

Somewhere between "minuscule" and "small" would describe the size of the demonstration held outside Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission offices in Toronto last Tuesday by the Roma community protesting against the Sun News Network. There were about two dozen people in total, including speakers which included "social activist" Bernie Farber and former Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

There is no defending the content of Ezra Levant's tirade against the Gypsy community last year. Sun News issued an apology almost immediately after its broadcast and Levant himself apologized in great length and detail last month.

Hopefully, that would have put the unfortunate episode in the past, but the issue has become less a cause about offense to the Gypsy community than as a spear opponents of Sun News would use to strike at the fledgling conservative news network.

That motive was so transparent that aspects of the protest took on an element of self-parody. Among the complaints by Roma Community Centre Director Gina Csányi-Robah was that Sun News continues to use the "offensive" term Gypsy to describe the Roma people. Making that claim ridiculous, following her speech, the event's Master of Ceremonies announced a performance by two musicians from the group "The Gypsy Lions."

A definitive monograph on the Gypsies by University of British Colombia Sociology Professor Werner Cohn refutes much of what Ms Csányi-Robah, who was born in Canada, alleges. Cohn is extremely sympathetic to the Gypsies, whose culture he studied in great detail and he dispels dangerous slanders against them such as the allegation of Gypsies "stealing children."

But he also points out that the Gypsies are in fact a number of peoples, most of whom self-identify as Gypsies and of whom the Roma (or Rom or Romani) are just one group.

Bernie Farber's interest in the Roma community is curious. He undoubtedly is sincere in advocating for people he considers oppressed. But it is remarkably convenient for him that in agitating against Sun News, he can attack people with whom he has an apparent ax to grind. As Farber pointed out in an interview on CBC Radio's As It Happens, there is a long history and no love lost between him and Ezra Levant.

That interview is fascinating in a number of ways. The biases and abuses of the state-funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation have been a frequent Sun TV target that could possibly even be described as an obsession, and Levant's Gypsy faux pas is being seized upon as an opportunity for payback.

In the interview, Farber and As it Happens host Carol Off compete with each other to malign Sun News and Levant, working themselves into a crescendo of bile. Off is famous for her lack of emotional allocution. For those unfamiliar with her vocal style, imagine a lobotomized, female Ben Stein on Ritalin and that will give you an idea of her bland droning.  But on this occasion her disdain for Sun News was so evident that she actually conveyed feeling in her voice.

But that feeling was rife with hypocrisy. As blogger Blogwrath has noted, the CBC has broadcast anti-Gypsy programming that invokes the most hateful stereotypes they face.

At the protest, former Liberal MP Wrzesnewskyj betrayed himself as an intellectual featherweight by comparing Ezra Levant to the unapologetic neo-Nazi Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel.

Wrzesnewskyj was one of the most anti-Israel MPs in the House of Commons while he sat there. He co-authored a heavily biased anti-Israel report along with pathologically anti-Israel NDP MP Libby Davies.  On his trip to make that report, he was accompanied by Sea Hitler organizer Ehab Lotayef  and a group of fanatics who routinely support and participate in the "Israeli Apartheid Week" hate-fest that has been condemned by the last two federal Liberal Party leaders, Ignatieff and Rae. Wrzesnewskyj was compelled to resign as Liberal Foreign Affairs Critic in 2006 after he advocated that Canada engage with the terror group Hezbollah.

Ms Csányi-Robah has her own odd history of engaging, on behalf of her community, with nefarious groups. She has aligned the Roma cause with radical fanatics who want an end to Israel as a Jewish state. That association has shamed a number of Canadian Roma who wanted to distance themselves from such hate. That may partially account for why she was unable to garner much support from her own community for her Tuesday protest.

It might strike some as remarkable that former Canadian Jewish Congress boss Farber would be part of such an event.  But Farber has been remaking himself recently since losing his role as one of  Canada's top "Official Jews." He has been using his twitter account to promote links from anti-Israel hysterics such as blogger Dr. Dawg, and the vehemently anti-Israel website rabble.ca.

As blogger Sassywire points out, many in the Jewish community have been urging Farber for some time to come to protests against anti-Semites and Islamist hate-mongers seeking Israel's elimination, but he has not notably done so. Ironically the protest he makes a point of attending, he does so alongside people associated with anti-Israel causes to condemn the most pro-Israel media outlet in Canada.

In the end, it doesn't take much examination to get the impression that, like most people opposed to free speech, the protesters against Sun News appear less interested in suppressing hatred than they do in suppressing points of view that differ from theirs.

Evidently, below-average intelligence is part of the job requirement for Calgary's Hate Crimes Unit

Levesque called the website “legitimate…Hate websites are usually in your face. This is a legitimate website that any religion…would have to give information about their faith.”
He was critical of B’nai Brith for asking for a hate crime investigation before contacting the MCC.
“Is it in the interests of harmonious community relations? Do we need to go from zero to 100 and put out a national press release?,” he asked.
“Ultimately, what we want is harmonious relationships between these communities…I didn’t want to see a legitimate Muslim website being impugned in the media as being antisemitic, because that is not the case.”

Toronto City Hall back to square one with policy toward hate group

A series of reports to executive committee — penned by the very bureaucrats who’ve sat on their hands throughout this mess — says Pride has not been in violation of the city’s grants or anti-discrimination policies for allowing QuAIA to march.

Surprise, surprise.

One report, put together by the leftist bureaucrats in the social development division headed by Chris Brillinger, says the city’s grants policy does not include any provisions preventing an organization from being funded due to the use of the term “Israeli Apartheid” or “any other language that may be considered offensive” but not hateful under the Criminal Code. Another written by Uzma Shakir, the city’s $144,998 director of equity and diversity, allegedly updates the city’s anti-discrimination and hate policies in response to the QuAIA issue.

Except there is a small problem. Shakir has openly written anti-Israel sentiments on rabble.ca (a virulent anti-Israel website operated by former Trotskyite Judy Rebick).

Former Drama teacher Trudeau has lame response to "in over his head" ad

Liberals may lap up Justin Trudeau's wimpy response to the Conservative attack ad "just in over his head" launched against last week.

In a cheesy classroom setting Trudeau effectively reminds us that he isn't up to the job to which he aspires. Repeating "he worked hard" to get where he is, with his paper-thin list of accomplishments, implicit is that the hardest work he ever did was manage to get the surname "Trudeau" on his birth certificate.

Islamist-headed Toronto City department tries to give a pass to anti-Semitic hate group

The Executive Director of Toronto`s Social Development, Finance and Administration Department sent a report to the city`s Executive Committee that would allow Toronto`s Pride parade to receive civic funding despite inclusion of the anti-Semitic hate group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid.

The report was done in consultation with Toronto`s Equity, Diversity and Human Rights Division. That division is headed by Uzma Shakir, a Sharia Law advocate who has written that Muslim immigrants do not owe full loyalty to Canada because of the government`s pro-Israel policies.

As New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman wrote,"Criticizing Israel is not anti-Semitic, and saying so is vile. But singling out Israel for opprobrium and international sanction out of all proportion to any other party in the Middle East is anti-Semitic, and not saying so is dishonest." By applying a standard to the Jewish State that is different to the standards to which any other country is held, Queers Against Israeli Apartheid, despite containing some Munchausen Jews (idiot Jews and fake Jews who only proclaim their religion for the purpose of defaming Israel and currying favor with Islamists and Marxists)  is clearly anti-Semitic.

Toronto`s City Council has the right to disregard the biased report that was submitted. Giving tax funds to an Gay Pride that serves as a platform to a a group that attacks the only Gay-positive country in the middle east while aiding groups that persecute homosexuals is obscene.  That they want to suppress Jewish national self-determination in the name of promoting Palestinian self-determination is perverse.

If a Nazi-admired group like Queers Against Israeli Apartheid want to march in a parade, let them do so without any subsidies from Canadian taxpayers. Or better still, let them hold a parade for their murderous  `friends` in Gaza or Tehran.

UN's anti-Semitic idiot rapporteur Richard Falk blames Israel for Boston Jihadi bombers

The American global domination project is bound to generate all kinds of resistance in the post-colonial world. In some respects, the United States has been fortunate not to experience worse blowbacks, and these may yet happen, especially if there is no disposition to rethink US relations to others in the world, starting with the Middle East. Some of us naively hoped that Obama’s Cairo speech of 2009 was to be the beginning of such a process of renewal, and although timid in many ways, it was yet possessed of a tonality candidly acknowledged that relations with the Islamic world needed fundamental moves by the US Government for the sake of reconciliation, including the adoption of a far more balanced approach to the Palestine/Israel impasse. But as the months passed, what became evident, especially given the strong pushback by Israel and its belligerent leader, Bibi Netanyahu, were a series of disappointing reactions by Obama, which could be described as an accelerating backpedaling in relation to opening political space in the Middle East.
Now at the start of his second presidential term, it seems that Obama has given up altogether, succumbing to the Beltway ethos of Israel First.

Rick McGinnis: k.d. lang reflects on induction into Canadian Music Hall of Fame

Joining the Canadian Music Hall of Fame alongside Hank Snow, Anne Murray, Glenn Gould, Buffy Sainte-Marie and Rush might seem overdue for k.d. lang.
After all, the Canadian pop and country singer is already an officer of the Order of Canada, has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and was the subject of a song written by the late Stompin’ Tom Connors. At this point we might be running out of honours, so would she be interested in, say, a Senate seat?

Pro-Israel passion from an unusual suspect at Toronto celebration

Fossils and ancient relics were part of the Yom Ha'atmaut (Independence Day) celebrations held last Tuesday by Israel's Consulate General in Toronto. No, I'm not talking about former Canadian Jewish Congress boss Bernie Farber, although he was there too. This year's party took place at the Royal Ontario Museum in the central gallery adorned by shining Medieval suits of plated armor, enormous dinosaur bones and Egyptian funeral artifacts.

Royal Ontario Museum
The party happened last Tuesday night and a line stretching from the Museum entrance on University Avenue extended almost half a block up to Bloor Street as the invited guests slowly filed into the party. Security was tighter than in previous years, but the Boston Marathon bombings the day before made people patient and sensitive to the need for caution.

Inside, almost a thousand dignitaries, diplomats and assorted other guests filled the air with pleasantries while noshing on deserts and sipping on some very palatable Israeli wines.

I bumped into Richmond Hill MPP Reza Moridi, who was, as usual, warm and engaging. We'd met previously at a gathering at the home of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center CEO Avi Benlolo, whom, along with his charming wife, was also at the Yom Ha'atmaut party.

I also ran into the beautiful Natalie Weed, who had been the Mistress of Ceremonies at last year's celebration, but has since moved on to become a regional press secretary for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. That was a very clever move on Tim Hudak's part, as it finally gives people a reason to look forward to hearing something from him.

The party was the first for newly appointed Consul General DJ Schneeweiss, who delivered a fiery speech extolling Israeli achievements and his nation's close relationship with Canada combined with an unapologetic assertion of Israel's right to self-determination.

The venue of this year's party was, while aesthetically interesting, was functionally less satisfying than last year's. The room was much smaller and it was difficult to move about among the crowd. But worse, there were only two bar stations, which made getting access to wine a frustratingly prolonged process.

After moving through a lineup that progressed with a tortoise's gait, and loaded up with as much wine as I could entice from the bartender, a felt a slight brush against my side. I turned to see that I was standing shoulder to shoulder with none other than Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.

Readers of this blog will note that I am a huge fan of Ms Wynne, who was awaiting being called to deliver her speech. I tried to get The Jewish Tribune's ace reporter Joanne Hill, who was laughing at me,  to get a picture of the premier and I together.  Joanne refused, probably fearful that she might become persona non grata at such events if such a picture ever emerged.

Moments later, the Premier was flanked by her entourage, which among others included MPP Moridi and my own representative, Dr. Eric Hoskins. Taking to the podium, Wynne delivered a speech which passionately lavished praise on Israel and boasted of her government's increased cooperation between the two jurisdictions. The speech sounded sincere and heartfelt, which will come as a bitter disappointment to her alma mater, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where some politicized programs make activism towards elimination of the Jewish state part of their curriculum.

Curiously, Premier Wynne's government continues to push educational policies that encourage a type of narrow-minded, Marxist-based ideology that is anathema to liberal democracies like Israel and to the capitalist structures her government encourages. Whether this is an internal ideological conflict within the Liberal Party or if politicians are lazy and ignorant of what is happening under their watch are equally probable explanations.

But in any case, Yom Ha'atzmaut's celebrants in Toronto proved something that is painful for the fanatics sitting atop unions and institutions such as CUPW, CUPE Ontario and OISE. Because like it or not, acceptance for and affinity with the advanced, liberal bastion of democracy that is Israel is part of a mainstream discourse that leaves its bitter, radical opponents on the outside.

US Secretary of State Kerry compares Boston Marathon victims to terrorists who died attacking Israeli forces

In Istanbul to help with rapprochement between Israel and Turkey following the rift caused by Israeli forces killing nine Turks who attacked them during the boarding of the Mavi Marmara. That ship was trying to break an Israeli arms embargo of Gaza and the dead activists, who attacked Israeli soldiers with knives and metal pipes, were members of the Turkish organization IHH which has been linked to a number of terror organizations including the Muslim Brotherhood.
Mr. Kerry said he understood the anger and frustration of those Turks who lost friends and family in the raid. Mr. Kerry, a former Massachusetts senator, said last week’s Boston Marathon bombings made him acutely aware of the emotions involved.
“We have just been through the week of Boston, and I have deep feelings for what happens when you have violence, when something that happens when you lose people that are near and dear to you,” he said. “It affects the community; it affects the country. But going forward, you know, we have to find the best way to bring people together and undo these tensions and undo these stereotypes and try to make peace.”
Such comments may play into the Middle-eastern Muslim sense of perpetual victimhood and the propensity to blame others for their own wrongdoing, but it is also extremely dangerous. It validates extremism and terror and feeds into the moral relativist and Islamist concept that terrorists are victims of "oppression." Kerry's comments are disgraceful.

How an Arab-Israeli Politician's Efforts Inadvertently Dispel the "Apartheid" Myth

Two weeks ago, the Toronto Star's editorial page editor emeritus, Haroon Siddiqui, interviewed Zahalka on his recent trip to Canada, giving him a soap box to indict Israel with baseless allegations, rather than advancing the collective interests of Israelis, Jews, and Arabs alike.
Zahalka, you should know, studied pharmacy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, earning his BA, MA, and Ph.D and yet, he has the temerity to charge Israel with "apartheid," claiming that Israeli-Arabs are treated as "second class citizens" despite the fact that Arabs enjoy the same full rights as Jews in Israel.
Zahalka cautions that a "third intifada" may be in the offing. This prediction rings hollow to Israel Defense Forces chief Benny Gantz and seems entirely redundant to some analysts who contend that the "second intifada" simply never ended; Israel's security efforts just got better.

Uncle of Boston Marathon bombers calls them "losers"

h/t Rooster

Liberal fears realized: Boston Marathon terrorists were foreign-born Muslims motivated by Islam

Police are on the hunt for the second living Boston Marathon terror suspect after a shootout that left one policeman dead along with one of the pair of brothers believed to have carried out the bombings.

In a realized nightmare scenario for cultural-relativists, the suspects are apparently motivated by Islamist ideology.

They arrived as refugees from the war in Chechnya, where Muslim separatists are in a fight against the Russian Federation, in which brutal tactics and terror are routine facets of the conflict.

But why take it out against innocents at the Boston Marathon? Because for Islamists, America, The Great Satan, is the enemy of Allah.

On the surface, the Tsamaev brothers should have been exemplary immigrants. Tamerlan, who died in the shootout,  was a Golden Gloves winner with a beautiful American girlfriend; his younger brother Dzhokhar was the recipient of a scholarship in 2011 to pursue higher education.

But the elder Tamerlan had a keen interest in the form of Islam that despises the west and all it stands for, as can be seen by his statements and the types of videos he favored on his YouTube channel.

The hypocrisy of cultural relativists regarding this tragedy has already become apparent. They have already tried to portray much of the concern as "Islamophobia" and bigotry. That would be true if the perpetrators happened to be Muslims motivated by a hatred of high taxes, or that they just find marathoners irritating. But all indications are that the motive was Islamist ideology and to bury one's head in the sane to ignore that is the same as asking for more such attacks.

In the coming days and weeks, there will be passionate arguments about what this all means. The usual suspects from all sides will be making familiar arguments. Cultural relativists will say these are  anomalies who in no way reflect the feelings of Muslims or represent Islam. On the other side, xenophobes and anti-Islam activists will use this as further proof of the allegedly monstrous nature of a tribal, desert religion which is incompatible with modernity and will call for a halt to all Muslim immigration.

And as usual, the best course lies somewhere in between.

Most Muslims are appalled at this development and despise terror of the kind perpetrated in Boston this week.

But Islam is a religion that has not undergone a reformation, and its preachers frequently adulate Jihad and violence against infidels. What makes maters worse is that some Muslim leaders lie outright about the type of preaching that goes on in many mosques. Obfuscation by groups like CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relation) with their My Jihad campaign designed to soft-peddle a pillar of Islamic faith that directs followers to kill in the name of their religion.

So how to reconcile western democracies with a majority of Muslims who are personally moderate, honest and reasonable with a religion which frequently manifests as viciously murderous?

It doesn't appear that anyone has yet come up with a working solution to this dilemma. While Muslim immigrants integrate well, many Muslim do not. They isolate themselves from the culture of their adopted homelands and encourage their co-religionists to do the same.

And for this, the real blame lies with mushy-headed, politically correct, multicultural western governments that do everything they can to facilitate Islamist isolation through "accommodation"  policies. Making matters worse, politicians covetous of ethnic votes will even kow-tow to Islamists who extol Jihad.

The fists step is for our leaders to start acting like leaders and tell the truth. It's not just terror that needs to be condemned but Islamism and what goes on in mosques that breeds a hatred that results in shredded flesh on our streets.

We should continue to offer the benefits of western society to those who come here to be a part of it. But that comes with a significant caveat. We must also need to make sure that immigrants come here to be like us, and not to make us like them. Or to kill us when they can't. If that means curtailing immigration from lands where our culture and beliefs are reviled, then it is something we should consider as a way of avoiding conflict. Because fueling the causes for conflict only increases the likelihood of more of them.

The most disgusting man in the world

Disgusting British MP George Galloway starts his reprehensible YouTube broadcast celebrating the death of Margaret Thatcher with a condemnation of the BBC for having praised Margaret Thatcher.

"This is not North Korea. Adulation of the dead leader is not part of the British character"

That is quite an interesting comment coming from a deplorable individual whose character includes adulation of North Korea, as Galloway does in the video below.

As the late Christopher Hitchens noted about him, there isn't a brutal dictator in the world that Galloway doesn't prostrate before as a "daddy figure."

The Privilege of Not Belonging A theory of white racism against whites.

"White privilege is knowing that even if the bomber turns out to be white, no one will call for your group to be profiled as terrorists as a result, subjected to special screening or threatened with deportation," writes author Tim Wise. "White privilege is knowing that if this bomber turns out to be white, the United States government will not bomb whatever corn field or mountain town or stale suburb from which said bomber came, just to ensure that others like him or her don't get any ideas. And if he turns out to be a member of the Irish Republican Army we won't bomb Dublin. And if he's an Italian-American Catholic we won't bomb the Vatican."
We suppose it's necessary to point out that this is almost entirely bunk. There have been plenty of nonwhite mass murderers--among them Long Island Rail Road shooter Colin Ferguson (black), Beltway snipers John Muhammad and Lee Malvo (black and Muslim), Wisconsin mass shooter Chai Soua Vang (Laotian) and Virginia Tech's Seung-Hui Cho (Korean). None were treated as anything other than lone wolves, and it's been decades since America bombed either Laos or Korea.
It's true that Muslim terrorists are often "portrayed as representative of larger conspiracies, ideologies and religions that must be dealt with as systemic threats," but only because that portrayal is accurate. And many important media and other cultural voices go out of their way to argue that not all Muslims are terrorists (which is to their credit) and to play down Islamic terrorists' religious and ideological motives (which is not).

Tim Wise, to whom the article refers, is a race huckster whom the Toronto District School Board and Ontario`s Ministry of Education thought fit to bring in to deliver a keynote address at their `Futures` conference last year. He delivered the same sort of Marxist, `Critical Race Theory` idiocy that James Taranto referred to above.  But in Toronto, to a room filled with almost all Caucasian teachers, he received a prolonged standing ovation.

Justin Trudeau: Too stupid to be Prime Minister

Keeping with the mantra of "his father's looks, his mother's brains" Justin Trudeau, in his first week as leader of Canada's Liberal Party, has already made a fool of himself by sounding like a terror apologist.

This should come as no surprise, considering his senior political adviser and brother Alexandre partnered with Iran's state-controlled propaganda service.

Get ready for lots more of this. Trudeau has spent his first week complaining about the Conservatives' attack ad against him. He followed up by handing them more ammunition for the next one.

Anarchists, Unionists, Mennonites & Porter Airlines Strikers: It’s About Israel, Stupid!

Last year Porter Airlines’s refuelling staff joined a union. It was a curious choice of a union, the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union (COPE) is mostly a union for people who work for unions. They represent staff from CUPE, CUPW, Canadian Association of University Teachers, United Steel Workers, a number of district labour councils, and employees of the federal and Quebec NDP. (And, curiously, COPE Local 81 represents workers at Bombardier’s train manufacturing operations in Thunder Bay- Porter recently signed a contract with Bombardier Aerospace for new jets.)
There are only 22 Porter workers involved in the strike, but they’ve had an extraordinary amount of support. Not only have people from other unions joined in on the protests, but so too have members of Toronto’s anarchist community. There were some familiar names in attendance including the now world famous Vanja Krajina, Alex“Flagpole” Balch, Mark Brill of OCAP, and anarchist schoolteacher Ashleigh Ingle. There were also some high-profile union leaders and politicians  including Sid Ryan of the Ontario Federation of Labour, Tony Depaulo of the Steelworkers, and anarchist aficionado MPP Cheri DiNovo.
The question is, outside of supporting the strikers, why have so many radicals gravitated towards supporting this strike? This was a mystery to me until this week, but after some research it has become apparent- it’s about Israel, stupid! (I’m directing the ‘stupid’ at myself, wish I’d researched this earlier.)
Canada’s anti-Israel radicals have a hate-on for Israel that borders on racism. Rather than working towards peaceful solutions, most default towards incendiary language that can only cause further division- the phrase ‘Israeli Apartheid’ is a great example. This sort of hate will only result in adding heat to the fire.

Russian takes expression "I'll put my foot up your ass" literally and kills neighbor

This has to be the strangest murder of the year - apparently a 28 year old Russian man believed his 48 year old neighbor was sleeping with his girlfriend. The younger man snuck into the bedroom of the neighbor, inserted hius foot into his rectum and...

The police didn't say how they caught the culprit, or whether bloodhounds or trained flies were involved:

Live coverage:

An awkward silence over murder trial of Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia

Media organizations including The Washington Post have been several weeks late in covering the murder trial of a Philadelphia doctor accused of killing seven newborns and an adult patient at his abortion clinic. The Associated Press reports:
In testimony during the past month at the capital murder trial of Kermit Gosnell, eight former employees said they performed grueling, often gruesome work for little more than minimum wage, paid by Gosnell under the table. Three have pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. . .

His father's looks, his mother's brains

A day after winning the Liberal Party leadership, the Conservatives launch an attack ad against Justin Trudeau. The theme of him not being too bright is one they will hammer away at for the next 2 years. And Trudeau has given them plenty of ammunition.

Hamas bulldozes ancient archeological site to make room for terrorist training camp

Gotta love those Hamas folk and the idiots in the west that support them.

UN Watch demanded immediate action to stop the Hamas bulldozing of a 3000-year-old Gaza harbor for use as a terrorist training camp, asreported today by Al Monitor Palestine Pulse. A copy was also sent to EU foreign minister Catherine Ashton calling on the EU to take action.

The partial destruction of the ancient Anthedon Harbor—which includes the ruins of a Roman temple and archaeological remains from the Persian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras—comes exactly one year after the area was nominated by new UNESCO member state Palestine as a World Heritage site.

Anyone upset over the Bieber Anne Frank "controversy" needs to take a breath

Teen idol Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam. Upon leaving, he wrote in the guestbook: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

And the hysteria commenced.

Justin Bieber is one of the biggest music stars in the world. There are a lot of things he could have done with his limited time on tour in Europe. He went to the trouble of visiting the Anne Frank Museum to actually see and learn about one of the stories that has become a touchstone of Holocaust education. That is commendable.

One of the reasons the Diary of Anne Frank is taught in schools is to remind children that the victims of the Holocaust were normal kids, like them, who were caught up as victims of a whirlwind of senseless, murderous, bigoted hate. If Anne Frank were alive today, as a normal teenager, there is every chance she would, like millions of other teenage girls, be a fan of Bieber.

And for crying out loud, the Beeb's only 19 years old. He didn't write anything evil - he expressed the wish that Anne Frank would have liked him.  Is that so wrong?

If there had been an Israel at the time Frank was born, she would have been able to escape her fate. I wonder how many of the people expressing asinine outrage over Beeber's note would like to  see the Jewish state eliminated and with it more Jews?

There are a lot of terrible things going on in the world today. I'm not a fan of his music, but seriously, Justin Bieber isn't responsible for any of them.

And as an addendum, it turns out that Bieber has actually done something that organizations like the Simon Wiesenthal Center only dream of - he`s managed to get millions more people interested in the story of Anne Frank.

Totally Petarded: The Top 5 Masculinity Myths on Family Guy

Someone`s been spending way too much time taking Family Guy way too seriously.

Canadian socialist party will stop using "socialism" to describe its policies

The New Democratic Party of Canada realizes that the term "socialism" has developed negative connotations over the years. The years of abysmal economic failure and eventual totalitarianism.

To combat that perception, they just voted to remove the term "socialism" from its constitution.

The policies won't change - just the way they describe them.

Now if they could just stop their members of Parliament from exposing their communist sympathies, they might be a little more convincing.
